From Teen Idol to Regular Guy - Shaun Cassidy Then and Now

Like many girls my age in the 1970s, I had a poster of Shaun Cassidy in his baby blue satin jacket hanging over my bed. I’m not too proud to admit it. Whenever I got my hands on a Tiger Beat or Teen Beat magazine, the pictures of Shaun were promptly cut out and enshrined on my bedroom wall.

Shaun Cassidy Defined the Times

Shaun Cassidy had that perfect baby face that made him a hit with young girls and teens. The big dreamy eyes, the long lashes, and the perfectly feathered hair combined to create the ideal teen idol. Looking at old pictures of Shaun Cassidy reminds one of simpler times (if you were a child that is) when all you needed to be happy was a Bee Gees 45 and a big comb in your back pocket.

Shaun Cassidy epitomized the relative innocence of the time I grew up. His lyrics never had to be censored and because we didn’t have TMZ and YouTube yet, we could all sleep at night in the naive belief that Shaun never cussed out a roadie or hooked up with a hooker. I miss that.

Shaun Cassidy’s Career

Shaun appeared on some of the greatest 1970s TV shows like The Partridge Family and Charlie’s Angels, but he’s best known for his role on the Hardy Boys Mysteries. Back in the day, Shaun Cassidy rocked the charts with songs like "Da Doo Ron Ron" and "Do You Believe in Magic". Try and get that out of your head! After tiring of the teen idol scene, Cassidy stretched his acting muscles on the stage before settling into a writing and production role. He’s worked on American Gothic, Roar and Invasion, which was a great show before it got cancelled after one season.

(Hey Shaun, if you’re reading, can you PLEASE tell us what happened? I mean, where did all those aliens really come from? You can’t leave us hanging like that!)

Shaun Cassidy Today

Can you believe that Shaun Cassidy is about to make a come back? Well sort of. He’ll still be behind the camera. The 1970s teen sensation has a new show coming out in March. And guess – just GUESS – what it’s about! A former teen idol trying to live the regular life with his family. Let’s just hope he at least gets a cameo on screen! I’m looking forward to seeing him in action. Because, you know….  I was SO going to be Mrs. Cassidy when I grew up!

Hey Lela! This hub took me back years and yes, i remember drooling over the cover of a hardy boys adventure that featured Shaun Cassidy on the cover, was still in school then. Reading this one took me back to those beautiful days for a bit. Thanks for that.

I guess I'm a bit older because it was David Cassidy I was crazy about in the early 70s. Good hub.

Great hub.....for me it was Donnie Osmond. I too hung every picture I could find in my Tiger Beat up on my wall. One of my best friends literally covered every inch of walls with pictures of guys out of Tiger Beat.

I would never have recognized that current picture of Shaun. Wow, time hasn't been as kind to him as David.

True, I think Shaun looks more like his mother while David takes after his father.

Wow, thanks for bringing back some great memories. I too had him anywhere I could hang him. Now I'm thinking about buying that old stuff online and making my teen daughters listen to it, LOL. Thanks Lela

Oh I'm so glad to have been useful! This one was pretty fun to write. Those were the good old days, huh? A simpler time..... But before you shell out good money for the old tunes, I'd make your kids watch the YouTube videos. You will all be dying laughing. Shaun's no Jo Bro!

im with everyone else and im from the Shaun Cassidy era and i will never forget that time ,the year was 1977 and i can remember very well being in the bedroom of my childhood home where a girl of ten could be alone and i would just sit and listen to my Shaun Cassidy record and absorbing all the words to his songs while being on an all time high listening to that voice that seemed so sexy and gazing at the walls filled with his his posters ,listening to his music used to take me away and sometimes i felt like he was sending me messages, those were the days , when i look back at that time it just blows my mind because i dont know where all the time went ,it seems like one day i was just a 10 year old girl and it was 1977 now it's the year 2009 and im 41,and i have a son that will be 14 soon ,it just blows my mind away when i think about it.
