Looking for a simple summer dessert recipe that you can prepare without having to heat up your kitchen with the oven? These recipes are a perfect option for cooks who are looking for a no-muss no-fuss way to create a homemade (well, mostly) sweet treat that's perfect for a family meal occasion or party. Start off with a store bought angel food cake and layer with your favorite fruits and a few other items and you'll be on your way to enjoying a delicious cool dessert in no time at all. Try one and you'll see that whipping together a scrumptious trifle that doesn’t require any cooking at all can be even easier than pie!

Chocolate-y Berry Trifle

Ingredients

  • 1 store bought angel food cake
  • 1 pint of fresh strawberries
  • 1 pint of fresh blueberries
  • 1 cup of chocolate syrup
  • 1 12 ounce carton of whipped topping

Preparation Instructions

Cut the angel food cake two to three inch square. Wash the strawberries and blueberries. Place the blueberries in a bowl and crush a few of them. Slice the strawberries and add them to the blueberries, stirring to combine.  Line the bottom of a trifle dish with a layer of the cake, then top with a layer of the berry mixture. Drizzle lightly with chocolate syrup, then top with a layer of whipped topping. Repeat layers until the trifle dish is full, ending with a layer of whipped topping and a light drizzle of chocolate syrup. Cover and chill until serving time. The dish will taste best if you refrigerate it overnight.

Fruity Trifle

Ingredients

  • 1 store bought angel food cake
  • 1 6 ounce jar of maraschino cherries
  • 1 15 ounce can of crushed pineapple
  • 1 12 ounce carton of whipped topping
  • ½ cup of coconut flakes

Preparation Instructions

Cut the cake into squares of approximately two or three inches. Drain the pineapple and the cherries, reserving the liquid for use in other recipes if desired (if you're making frozen tropical drinks, it can be a great addition to your blender!).  Chop the cherries into small pieces and mix with the pineapple. In a trifle dish, place a layer of cake, then top with a layer of the cherry and pineapple mixture. Sprinkle with coconut, then top with whipped topping. Repeat layers until the trifle dish is full, ending with a layer of whipped topping. Cover and chill until time to serve. Your fruity trifle will taste best if you allow it to cool overnight.
