These two games are ideal for groups of children and all that is needed are a few soft foam balls (for safe play). So if you are looking for an activity to keep your kids amused or are in charge of a children's organised group then give these a go.
Game one: The spider and the flies
Number of players: 6 or more
How to play:
- Choose one of the children to become the ‘spider.’
- The ‘spider’ then stands on the edge of the play area with their back towards everyone holding the ball.
- They must throw the ball over their shoulder whilst the other children run around.
- Anyone the ball touches is out of the game.
- The ‘spider’ collects the ball and continues until there are only a few people left.
- To speed up the end of the game the ‘spider’ can turn round and try to aim at the ‘flies’ as they run around.
Game two: Pass the ball
Number of players: 12 plus is ideal
How to play:
- Split the children into small same sized teams and give each team a soft foam ball.
- Then get the teams to stand in a line, one behind the other.
- The person at the front of the line then places the ball under their chin with their hands behind their backs.
- Shout GO!
- The first child then has to pass the ball to the next person by just using their chin, hands cannot be used.
- If the ball is dropped then it has to be returned to the front and the process starts again.
- The ball is passed down the line in this fashion until it reaches the player at the back of the line, who then runs to the front and repeats the process.
- The winning team is the first who successfully passes the ball from front to back and has everyone in their original positions.
