This is a very good Hub and I am sorry that Isaac Hayes died today 8/10/2008 at the age of 65 and could not give us another 20 years of music.

HI DJ FUNKTAUL...CAPITALS ARE ONLY MEANT FOR EASY READING...

I HAVE THE PROMO 45'S ON SOME OF THOSE CUTS..MY GIRL FRIEND USED TO WORK FOR THE NORTHEASTERN NYC AND 5 STATE AREA AS..DISTRIBUTOR..ON WEST END AVE..IN THE CITY

MY FAVORITE J.B. CUT IS THE BLACK AND WHITE VIDEO..

AND 45..."IN THE JUNGLE GROVE" BY J.B...

ESPECAILY  THE DRUM BREAK.. JB SAYS:

"IN THE JUNGLE BUN"

"IN THE JUNGLE BUN"

"CLAP YOUR HANDS"..

"STOMP YOUR FEET" ..

AND THEN HE STRUTS ON ONE FOOT IN THE "RARE APPOLLO VIDEO" A GIRL IN THE AUDIENCE SAY.."KICK YOUR FEET UP"

AND HE DOES A SPLIT..AND SLIDES UP GRABES THE MIKE AND MAZZIO..ON SAX..IS CALLPING HIS HANDS..AS THE AUDIENCE IS SCREEEEMING AND WHISTLING.....THEN ...THEN..

THEN THE DRUMMER KICKS "THAT MEANEST BEAT YET"..AND THEN THE HORNS KICK IN WITH THAT MONSTER HORN LINE THE PUTS YOU IN A GROVE ...MAKE YOU WANNA MOVE..

THEN MAZZIO ON SAX...AND THE FLAMES COME BACK IN ,..

THE NEXT MONSTER CUT I KNOW YOU HAVE :

"GIRL YOU NEED A CHANGED OF MIND-EDDIE KENDRICKS

THE BIG PAYBACK..J.B.

THE LAST ONE FOR TODAY IS"ME AND BABY BROTHER"

TURN YOU FANS ONTO THESE UNSUNG HITS...

Great list. I believe Betty Davis should be included though. She was a funky chick with a capital "F"!

Honest I'm not graffitiing your hub - but this is a superb list (and I'm going to have to fill in some gaps in my personal vault!)

Since when is War a funk band?... And where in the hell is Earth, Wind and Fire and Tower of Power. This ain't no Top 200 list without those bands. You've got too much Prince on here too. Man, I'm seriously disappointed, dude! Go back to your turntable!!!

Don't like it, suck a pickle! EWF is basically disco and TofP is soooo lame by funk standards. They are like the Kenny G of funk. Made for muzak machines. What kind of band is War? I also don't like The Gap Band! This list is seriously outdated though! It's more like an intro to funk than the 200 best. Too much Prince, no such thing!

mick james  says:

all great songs but it seems like your scared of funk made in the last 10 years, all you needa do is chuck on a rephrase record and youd be throwing out all these dusty old records

EW&F is not disco. How dare you suggest such nonsense! They're more of an R&B band than funk, I must admit. But not putting TOP on your list is absurd. Don't you think their horn section is one of the best? Also, you should have more James Brown on that list and take Prince and dump him in the river - head first!!!

benfun  says:

This list is On the 1! Some more ya all might enjoy: Midnight Movers: Party With Every Muscle In Your Body Pt. I & II; Wuf Ticket: Ya Mama; Isaac Hayes: Type Thang; Bootsy: Body Slam; Jonsun Crew: Space Cowboy; Johnny "Guitar" Watson: Bow Wow & Ain't That A Bitch; ....R & B worth a listen: Larry Williams, Richard Berry (Have Love Will Travel) and of course, Johnny Watson....when in doubt, talk about what's good...

Can someone help me? I'm trying to find a funk song with the lyrics "all that i'm giving you (give you my love)" It's sung by a woman or female group, and i hear it in clubs that play funky music a lot, but never get a chance to ask the DJ who sings it. The lyrics are my best guess. Any help would be appreciated - i'm gong crazy singing this song!
