Before I talk about this I want to remind everyone, that despite long beaches and Elle MacPherson advertising the State of Western Australia, the Margaret River is a cool climate-growing region. So the Shiraz fruit is spicy and peppery, but there is core of sweet ripe raspberry, cherry and chocolate. Amberley is a forgotten winery to a large degree, people opting for bigger names and more of the tried and true fruit bombs. If you are listening out there, go and buy some of this wine!! It has nice clean acidity, no obvious influence from the Viognier, although no wine marketing person worth their salt would tell them not to take it off the label. The wine is elegant and already starting to show a little more of its fleshy ripe fruit. This wine is perfect for dishes that have acidity in them, because it has good acidity itself, it will also partner well with char-grilled red meats. Try something different, spend $23 dollars and get a great spicy and interesting Shiraz from WA.
