90 days to a healthier happier you
According to the United States government the number one New Year's resolution made by Americans is to lose weight. I guess that also means that the number one New Year's resolution that gets broken by Americans is that overweight gloss. I'm going to share my story with you and hopefully it will help you keep your 2009 New Year's resolution to be fit, slim and healthy.
The year is 1999, imagine for a moment that you are 30, 40, 50 or more pounds overweight. Close your eyes for a moment and imagine yourself standing in front of a full length mirror. See yourself standing bear wearing nothing but a pained expression on your face as you stare at your bloated reflection in the mirror. Now, I want you to feel the weight of your body as it presses down on you, ever heavier and heavier. I want you to feel the shortness of breath as you labor in OB city, trying ever harder to breathe in and to breathe out. Now I want you to imagine that you're walking down the sidewalk and with each step that you take your body gets heavier and heavier, your breathing gets more labored and more difficult. I want you to hear the whispers of the people as you lumber by. I want you to hear the giggles and snickers of small children as they point and laugh at the morbidly obese person in front of them.
Now want you to imagine that you come to a heavy gray stone building and you look up at the door and they are painted in thick black letters is the name of your doctor. You open the door and go inside the doctor's office. You scan the waiting room for chair large enough to accept your girth and support your weight. You see one over in the corner that will hopefully fit your needs, but try as you might you simply cannot sit comfortably in a chair that small and just as you're about to give up you hear your name. The doctor is ready to see you now.
On your way back to the examining room the nurse asks you to step on the scales. As the nurse ways you can record your weight on the chart you can see an expression of pity on her face. As a medical professional she knows that you are slowly and surely committing suicide one painful pound at a time.
She escorts you to the examining room, put your chart and the holder next to the door and asked you to wait patiently for the doctor to arrive. When your doctor comes in he begins to explain to you all of the things that you are ready no. He explains to you the dangers of being overweight. He explains to you the benefits of a healthy diet and regular exercise. These are all things that you know you should be doing. These are all things that you have honestly intended to do in the past, but somehow food got in the way. Your doctor begins to explain to you that your OB city has caused your blood pressure to be elevated and it has put unnecessary stress on your heart, your liver, your kidneys and your pancreas. Simply put your doctor tells you that you're killing yourself and that unless you change very soon and in a very dramatic way you're going to die.
You're going to die!
You have to admit that this is a pretty grim picture, but it is a picture that represents the lives of millions of Americans. Perhaps you're one of them, and perhaps by reading this article you are beginning to decide that it's time for change.
