Here is my question of the day:

"Jessica Sarah Parker is to Manolo Blahnik as the Olsen Twins is to _______"

The answer is SUNGLASSES!! (just my personal opinion)

In today's fashion-conscious world, sunglasses have become the ultimate, must-have accessory. Like handbags and shoes (preferably Louboutin and Manolo), a fashionista cannot have just one pair of trendy shades.

Just in case your inner shopaholic demon is calling upon you to add another pair of sunglasses to your sunglasses wardrobe, here are the 2009 trends for both lavish and frugal fashionista.

Classic Urban Chic

As seen on the Hills (regardless how much I hate Speidi, I must admit the Hills' girls have an enviable wardrobe) and on Bristish fashion icon Kate Moss, Ray-Ban Warfarer is your best bet for scoring classic urban chic.

  • Durable black acrylic frame with smoke lenses
  • 100% UV protection
  • Designer logo embossed at temples
  • A subtle signature on the lens
  • Cut-away detailing on the wide arms of the frame to ensure comfortibility

Click here to check out the latest style on the Duo Color Ray-Ban Wayfarer II RB2143.  Available in four different color.  Retail for $140.

If the price of the Ray-Ban Wayfarer is out the frugal fashionista's budget, check out the ebay link below for the retro vintage frame for ONLY $6.00 with FREE SHIPPING!!!  Who says trendy accessory need to be expensive?

The John Lennon Effect: the rounder, the better

The Olsen twins and Johnny Depp have dictated this year sunglasses trend: the rounder, the better. John Lennon's iconic round eyeglasses style has been an inspiration for one of this year's hottest sunglasses trend: the round "John Lennon" style. This trend can be spotted in recent the collections of Marc Jacob,Proenza Schouler,Ralph Lauren, Lanvin and Zegna. (Prices range from $300 to $400) This eccentric style (probably fueled by the Harry Potter craze) will definitely capture a lot of attention. If you want to be in the center of the spotlight, this style is perfect for you.

For the frugal fashionista, don't be discouraged by the price. You can always find a similar affordable style at UrbanOutfitter and Fred Flare. Prices range from $10-$20.

The Gradient Lens

Remember the Chanel half-tint sunglasses worn by Mary-Kate and Nicole Richie last summer? This trend is still hot for this season, except for the contrast of the lens are more subtle compares to last year and is spotted at the latest Dsquared Fashion show.

The Aviators: the Fashion Staple

The aviators continue to be the eyeglasses wardrobe staple this year.  My favorite brand is Dita, as seen on Jessica Simpson and Jessica Alba. (Prices range from $300-$500)  I love them so much tha I, myself own 2 pairs!!  They are totally worth the price!!

Dita Aviators feature:

  • Titanium frame which makes the sunglasses extremely durable
  • Intergrated Spring Hinges
  • UV protected lenses
  • Manufactured in Japan

Oversized, Oversized and Oversized

What does fashionista love? Oversized jewelry, oversized handbags, and of course, oversized sunglasses. Oversized sunglasses continue to score big this year and thanks to Nicole Richie, I believe this trend will be last for quite a while. I personally adore this style becasue they shades instantly glamorized the look with a hint of mystery. Put on the oversized shades and you don't even have to worry about make-up!!

Tell me what do you think

Which is your favorite sunglasses style??

  • Ray-Ban Wayfarer
  • Eccentric round sunglasses inspired by John Lennon/ Harry Potter
  • Sunglasses with gradient lens
  • the Aviators
  • the Oversized sunglasses

Wayfarers are classic - but so ubiquitous on the knock-off street tables that it makes me not want to wear them! So many fun colors though.

Ray Ban sunglasses are timeless... I had a pair that was over 10 years old, and they never were out of style.
