To qualify for the 2008 stimulus check, your income had to be below certain levels. If you have recently heard about a possible 2009 stimulus check package there may be a chance that you could receive one of these checks in the upcoming year. There has been a tax law change that may make this possible.

To receive the 2008 stimulus check there were many factors to be considered in your eligibility such as: Family size and income.

If you did not receive a stimulus check in 2008 based on your 2007 return you may now qualify for a recovery rebate check. This will be based on your 2008 earnings that you will file in 2009. They will take certain situations in to consideration. If you had a child in 2008 then you may be able be eligible as well.

There is a twist however in receiving this rebate. The government will not automatically send you a check if you qualify. You must claim this rebate on your 2008 tax return. This could be a huge potential credit for many tax payers that have been laid off or hit hard by the current economic situation. The current plan for an additional stimulus payment is being considered in congress and should either happen soon or after Obama is sworn in as president.

We recommend using some type of tax software to prepare your return, especially if you qualify for this new additional credit. A tax preparation service such as TurboTax will automatically alert you if you qualify and guide you through the steps.

Try the free tax calculator at TurboTax to estimate your tax refund in advance.

You’re allowed a second chance under the 2008 law that created the tax rebates, also known as economic stimulus payments. This do-over rebate is also called a "recovery tax rebate" or "recovery rebate credit."

NOHING IS GOING TO HELP THE ECONOMY, OTHER THAN FOR THE GOVERMENT TO PASS A LARGE STIMULUS PACKAGE FOR THE MIDDLE TO LOW INCOME TAX PAYERS. GIVING A BAILOUT TO CAR INDUSTY WILL HELP THEM FOR THE MOMENT BUT DAYS OR WEEKS DOWN THE LINE ISNT GOING TO MAKE A DIFFERANCE. THEY WONT BE SELLING CARS BECAUSE NO ONE AT MIDDLE CLASS INCOME OR LOW WILL BE ABLE TO AFFORD ANYTHING BUT MAYBE FOOD AND EVERYDAY ESSENTIALS FOR THERE FAMILIES. THE CAR INDUSTRY AFFECTS ALOT OF JOBS BUT TO HELP BOOST ECONOMY FOR HOUSING AND AUTO GIVE TO WHOM WILL BE REASPONSABLE TO PAY THIS BAIL OUT BACK THE MIDDLE AND LOW INCOME TAX PAYERS.

If they gave every household $100K+ this will cure our economy. People would catch up late payments on everything they are behind on which would help the financial industires. Some may even pay off their homes, or at the very least would not lose their homes. They can pay off all credit cards. Those who are unemployed will have enough to pay bills until they find a job. And Americans being Americans will blow some of it on luxury items which will spark the ecomony(cars). I call this "trickle-up economics". The Government gave billions of dollars to the financial industries and who has that helped. Only the companies, because I don't believe the American poeple as a whole have not benefitted from it. People are still losing their homes or can't get a home, and thye are ruined. The money certainly is not "trickling down!" Give the money to the people so they can pay their bills this helps everyone directly and we may even tuck some away to invest in the stock market and help there as well. Talk about a win-win situation. GIVE THE MONEY TO THE PEOPLE!!!

JG  says:

Seriously, enough with the rebates. Americans need to learn to provide for themselves. Don't get me wrong, if they are handing out free money, I will definately be there. The only thing about the rebates is that its almost a catch 22, the government wants us to blow it because that is what will boost the economy, however, most of us spent it on bills which didn't help the retail world one bit. I didn't splurge on anything unless you count paying a larger payment to one of my creditors. We have gotten ourselves into this mess by financing way beyond our means. I myself am guilty of this but I am working my rear off to fix what I did.

As far as all the bailouts go - give the people a bailout. The reason why these companies are failing is because the people no longer have the disposable income to buy their goods! If we simply bail them out, that just means they make more cars (or other items) that will sit on lots (or shelves) unsold because WE STILL don't have the money to buy them.

6 trillion on a war that produced nothing. If they would of taken 6 trillion dolllars and evenly distributed it to each american (300 million of us) we would of each got about 20,000 each or 80,000 per household... How different would our economy be then?

K  says:

You don't have to "blow" your money for it to help the economy =)

Fixing your car, paying your bills, getting things you need... it all helps save someone's job and helps them financially out. As well as it helps you out. Taking care of yourself helps the economy. Getting a 2nd job (if need be) helps you and the economy as well.

My husband and I started growing our own foods, making homemade stuff, lived without a car for 2yrs, bought used stuff... and paid off all our debts, built up a nice savings and will be buying a car and house this year. =) You have to make sacrifices and do the responsible thing. Too many Americans need bailed out instead of doing more to bail themselves out (obviously not ALL Americans, but, a lot of them).

I work every day, and so does my husband, we have never used the system for foodstamps , medical etc. I think what would help us the most , would to see more on our weekly checks, so we can have money to spend or save the entire year. Cut the taxes on familys making less than 70,000.00 a year. We might then be able to buy a house or a new car. I Think this would help the economy also.

Actually the state governments receive the most of any because alot people owe so much to their state and their refund is intercepted. As well as child support cases. Just another example of how it doesnt help everybody.

The Stimulus Package for 2009 should include people that recieve SSI as well as the unemployed. Instead of giving the economic stimulus to those that already have money give it to those that do not have money and you will see a change in the economy. Most low-income citizens have basic needs such as cars, houses, furniture and etc. and would not hesitate to spend it. I believe giving an economic stimulus payment to the needy would boost the economy. Those that already have money are not going to spend it they are going to save it and it will never make it back into the economy. Many people are on SSI because they have no other choice. Some get sick and become disabled and have no other means of income. I worked for the Federal Government for 18 years, I resigned because of problems I was having but was told after I became ill, that they didn't take social security out of my bi-weekly checks and so I had to apply for SSI. I have been working on some type of job every since I was about nine years of age but I was underage. I am unable to receive Social Security payments until I am sixty-two. I am fifty-seven a breast cancer survivor that has faced many other illnesses. Help for the lower-income is all I am requesting to strengthen our economy.

I believe the government should give a stimulus to all americans. Including those on SSI. Just because they are unable to work does not mean they don't need it. They need it the most. The bills for medicine alone are astronomical. I am not on SSI but, my mother is. She struggles a lot. Anyhow, I believe the government needs to give a huge stimulus to "the people". That will be the only way we can even hope to readjust our path. I agree most people will spend on bills, food, everyday essentials and that will help a little. However, if it is a large stimulus people may actually buy something other than an essential. The money that went to the banks, that was a mistake. I agree with the others who posted the money should have went to "the people". That would have saved everyone. Including banks, auto makers, all that are in this mess now. That was a horrible decision the government made to just give the money to the banks. Sure it saved them but, for how long? It was a band-aid, not a long term solution. The bottom line, we need long term plans. We don't need any more band-aids. The country is in dire need of a complete make over. If the government would listen to the people, we all have great ideas. I know it is difficult to please all but, take the ideas into consideration at least.

If you want to see the economy helped.....than a stimpulus or bail out package is needed. The first thing that needs to be done is to get those men out of Iraq. That would be a tremendous economic savings. Next, instead of giving out bail out packages to all these companies....the government should give about $150K-200K to every househouse. This will definited jump start this economy. People will start spending and that's how these companies would get their bail out money...."from the people" - - which was how they were getting it before the war. How is it that everyone else can figure this out?

Please stop thinking of this as a handout....its your own money. If we do not get relief soon - - the jobs that you talk about going to will not be around much longer. Everyone is business is suffering...nothing is guaranteed right now. It seems like everytime I look at the news another company is laying off.

Troy, I think you are an ass. You assume that everyone on welfare does drugs. I work hard and get drug tested for my job,and I get asssistance. Screw you!

Anyway, a stimulus check would help everyone out. Rich people are pawning rolex's. Imagine that.

By the way Troy,I hope you never fall on hard times, cuz maybe you would know how hard it is to get by without welfare. Glad to see you gotmoney falling out of your ass.

Melisa  says:

I absolutely agree with Troy!! We should start drug testing for welfare recipients. Not that all welfare recipients do drugs, but it would definately weed out the majority that did. My husband is an inspector for public housing...and these people are paying $8 a month for rent but, driving Escalades and have bigger TV's in thier houses than what I can even imagine owning! I agree with you completely Troy......but...there are people on Welfare who have fallen on hard times that need a pick me up...temporarily. And we cannot forget the elderly that honestly need it to.

WHY DO WE KEEP BAILING OUT ALL THESE COMPAINIES???? THAT IS NOT HELPING ANYTHING, BESIDES PUTTING THE US IN FURTHER DEBT. WHY DIDNT THEY GIVE THIS MILLION OF DOLLARS BAILOUT TO US, THE PEOPLE, THATS WHERE IT NEEDS TO GO, SO WE CAN BUY NEW CARS AND BUY A HOUSE. JUST DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT THE GOVERNMENT IS THINKING. SO NOW THE CAR PEOPLE WILL KEEP MAKING CARS, BUT THERE IS NO ONE THAT CAN BUY THEM. WHAT A WASTE!

Are you people actually serious?? You want to drug test people just because they are not wealthy. Let me school you on something real fast... I am a single mother with 2 daughters (one of which is disabled!!) I am currently going to college so that I can recieve a Masters in Occupational Therapy. I work hard for everything I have and recieve government assistance. Do I sound like I do drugs??? There are many things wrong with the world and its sad to say that the biggest is not our economy but the ignorrance of society. Remember... ignorrance is in those who never take the time to listen!

Drug test on people on public assistant? I'm willing to take one, but does it help me not to fell ashame every time i use food stamp to buy food for my 2 little daughters. What can i do? I would have to actually agree with Troy's comment. Several years ago when I needed assistance I didn't qualify because my car was too new even though it was a gift from my grandfather. Yet a lady walked in right behind me that drove a Escalade and was picking her food stamps up!! WTF is the deal. They say blacks are the minority!! YEA RIGHT!!!! They get whatever they want cause they want to throw out the racial card, yet in all actuality its now the whites who are the monority!! I agree with another comment made by someone else. If the president would give Americans a portion of what was spent on this MEANINGLESS war then we wouldn't have a economic problem!! Take care of our own people before blowing up a country then pretty much saying I'm sorry I blew your country up and I will rebuild it for you! SCREW THAT!!!

Jamie---Jxn MS  says:

I have to agree with Troy on this one hands down!!! True not all people on welfare do drugs but most of them do and like Casey said drive Escalades and Lexus's. Alot of them more than likely are dealing drugs in return don't need to take money from honest working individuals! Last time I checked dealing drugs was not a occupation! It is really pathetic that the Welfare people don't investigate everyone before approving them. Like Casey said it has alot to do with the color of the skin. Now yes I am white, but I could almost guarantee that if I messed my hair up didnt bathe for a few days and walk in smelling like ass they would still come up with some reason why I don't qualify even if I lied like alot of blacks do on what kind of veh they have. They should start checking with the DMV and verify vehicles owned by applicants. That can be done through local Sherriff departments or calling directly to the DMV!!!

This is a comment for DV______ It is NOT our fault that you don't work and that your wife can not get a job that does not pay more than minimum wage!!! It is called EDUCATION!!!! Why should hard working people that did get an education have to pay for your mistakes??? I know I don't feel sorry for you. Yes I feel sorry for your children for having dead beat parents that were too lazy to get an education. Sad that yall are the example they have to look up to. If you want to do something positive for them then go back to school and get an education and stop relying on us to pay for your mistakes!!! I would much rather DHS take children that are on welfare and place them in homes where they can get a good role model to look up to and see that you don't have to rely on everyone else to pay your way!! GET A LIFE DUDE AND STOP FEELING SORRY FOR YOURSELF!!!!

Susie  says:

I think that the stimulus money should go to the people not on tax cuts and income taxes right now especially when thing is like it is now. Let the people deside how to spend it. There is things that people need now like paying on there homes to keep from losing them, be able to take your family out to a good dinner to releave tention and pressure. maybe they need a car to take them to their jobs when they dont have a car or the car need repair, pay on other bill to catch up on were they havent been behind on before. There is not many jobs out there now cause there are so may businesses closing down, even through unemployment has an extension there could be people that have met their limit and then what. i hope that the people will get help now and then maybe we all can get behind our president and not have so much pressure on our shoulder and work together to make our president speech work. it would help my family and i and i know it will help other to in a lot of ways now. People that is out of a job dont wont to be and would rather survive on their on than to wait on a hand out. The encomy is bad now, how can we help it if you have nothing to help with. my thought only.

I think first they should check out the brokers who handled the baby boomers retirement money. They ALL need to be audited. Our was lost in the stock market. To all the kiddies out there. Take a good look at our government and see how your hard work rewards you. We worked for 40 yrs. and had a small tetirement saved. We were supposed to get about $1100 a mo. to go with our retirement. Now all we get is a security check. We dont know what happened to the money. Poof, it is gone! So I say give every retiree, legal citizen who is retired and lost that money in the stock market, givus $100.000. Then, give EVERY OTHER LEGAL CITZEN of the U.S. $100,000 and IF anything is left, give it to the companies who need it. MONITOR them!!!Make sure there is no houses, extreme bonuses, huge salary hikes, allow them ONE house to live in and one car foreach of age driver in the household!

You know, we don't know nobody situation but our own. We can only gestimate. Who are any of us to judge another unless we are so perfect and holy and live in a glass house. We should be very careful as to how to talk to, about others, especially when we are not in there shoes. Whether it is welfare, SSI, steady job or whatever, if anyone of us lose it, then we are a check away from homeless. Stereotypes will hurt us tremendously. Yes, there maybe people who take advantage of the system, just like there may be people who take advantage of time on there jobs and so forth, however remember your priorities or not someone else and you or I or no better or no less than anybody else. The same back you step on going up the ladder, might be the same back you stumble over coming down. Be careful what you say about others. Remember you can't control what a person say, think or do, you can only control I you react to it. In this life, at this time, for the most part, we are all in survival mode, what ever that may be. God Bless

Is this where we vent??? OKKK well i think, if the government limits how high the cable bill goes and electric, then maybe us middle/lower class Americans would be able to spend money on other things besides BILLS!!!!! Maybe we could even Buy a new pair of USA made sneakers!!! The problem IS when we all get money we go for the "cheapest" because we cant afford much, BUT the cheapest ISNT made in the USA... its made over seas, so basically, or government borrows money to give to us.. then we go and buy everything from china or some other country, THEN they get their money back, and the USA STILL owes them. Its simple... if we buy more USA made things, it would be in higher demand, therefore giving US the people more work here in the USA, which in turn gives us a bigger paycheck that we can then go spend on MORE USA stuff..... that's why and how money cycles!!!

Here's an idea. Want to stimulate the economy? Start shipping out the 11 million illegal aliens in our country and quit paying for all these plans, services, and benefits for them. Also, all public "forms" and "pamphlets" should be printed in english and only english. You want to live here? Learn the language. The money we would save just with those two simple changes would beat the hell out of any stimulus package.

If everyone got this stimulus, who would actually get out there and work. America would be in worse shape. I think that it is pathetic as to the ones receiveing government benefits now. About 35% of those who get benefits actually are the ones who need it. The others are just plain lazy and are abusing the system. They are all sitting at home, fatter than ever eating steaks from food stamps, and going to the doctor everyday. Working people like myself believe that those lazy crooks shouldn't get the stimulus, you already stimulate the grocery stores and the doctors offices, so thanks for what yo do...HA HA HA! Brandon Hall you are an idiot.... I am 71 yrs old and my social security benefit is not from the government, it is from the money i, myself, paid into the social security program, so i am only receiving my own money back. I am unable to work so i did not qualify for the larger stimulus check that was given out last year. However, i still have the same debts that everyone else has. I must pay rent, utilities, car payment, food, and medical. I don't even own a home, i can not afford medical coverage and while i am at it, I can not even afford to bury myself when I die. I live alone and do not qualify for assistance. My social securitiy income (which is my own money) is only $771 a month, and you have the gall to say I do not deserve the stimulus package as well as anyone else does. You are in for a rude awakening when you become my age and still have to pay the same bills that a working individual has to pay. Wake up and smell the roses son, life is not a bowl of cherries for us older Americans.

I think everyone who wants part of this rebate should have to take a mandatory drug test to qualify. A lot of people who are living at the poverty level are also using food stamps and goverment assistance to purchase drugs therefore creating a pothole for them to stay in and continue to use, get pregnant and jobless. If I have to take a drug test for a job to pay my taxes, then the people that "Qualified" to get some money back should have to pee too! If they pass...they get the money minus the $6.00 drug test. If they fail....well then they dont get it and they pay the $6.00 back and should be disqualified for goverment assistance. That's my two cents....

My husband and I work everyday even though both of us have chronic medical problems. And we are very thankful for our jobs even though at this time we don't make enough to cover the bills with the rising cost of living. A stimulus check would help us to pay for some basic necessities and perhaps help us provide some assistance to our young grandson and son who are also struggling in the present economy. I too sometimes get frustrated when I see others getting handouts when we are working and struggling just to get by. They say we make to much to receive any help but not enough to live on. What's up with that? Why not help some of us who are trying to be responsible and struggling every day? At this time we are working just to pay taxes, insurance, and medical bills...so yes a stimulus check would help, but I know if Obama will remember where he and his came from and what a struggle is now that he has a life in the white house.

Connie in Ohio- Bless you. Brandon Hall is stupid. Just so you know Brandon, government help is not that much. I am currently recieving what they call Temporary Assistance (TANF), and food stamps. While the food stamp money IS usually enough, the temp. assistance is not worth it. I get $234 a month. I am a 27 year old single mom with a 4 year old daughter. I left her dad after he punched me in the face 3 months ago. (He's SUPPOSED to pay me 450 a month...so far i haven't seen a dime) I was a designer for a furniture company until a month ago when they went out of business. I rent a place for $725 a month, which is pretty cheap for a two bedroom place where i live, and am trying my best to stay here for my daughter. Since the money I get is from the taxes I've been paying since I turned 18 and got a job, I don't feel the slightest bit guilty about using it. However, a stimulus might actually help me pay a months rent so i can quit worrying about where to find a bridge to live under and get OFF the assistance program.

His wife has a few purses over $200 each.He eats better than I do and has more money left over than me. Hm, to reiterate a bit on brandon's statement..I just want to say this: My fiance is on SSI because of a mental disability, he is flat out unable to work. He gets just over 600$ a month, we pay 500$month rent (and this is in a run down trailor park, mind you, and the cheapest place we can find atm). To say that those on SSI wanting stimulus are greedy is just idiocy.

I myself have been out of work for almost a year(though not for lack of trying). I've been out 'hoofing' it mon-friday 6-10 hours a day. There are very few jobs. Yes, i do NOT have a college degree, but one shouldn't judge those without higher education. First off, even with goverment grants and financial aid, college is NOT cheap, even living in dorms, living on the college meal plans. I know, I did try it, but could not manage it without a job (which i could not find one). And btw, to those of you condeming people without higher educations, You need to think about this: if there weren't people out there who chose not to/couldnt afford to go to college. Who would serve you your fast food? Who would be working the factories to make all those American made prodcuts your so damned proud of? Better yet, do this. next time you go to the store and pick up any product made by the Gilster-Mary Lee company (they make all the Betty Crocker products) remeber they were made by factory(ies) full of uneducated workers. While you're enjoying your cake, think about that.

Anyway, I'm just trying to say, that a bit more than '35%' of those on welfare need it/desrve it. I myself am on foodstamps to offset some of the monetary lackings until i find work. Does that mean im leeching off the goverment? I dont think so. I get about 150$/month; I'm 25 and up until last year worked full time employment from the time I turned 16. I think i've more than paid for my own welfare benefits and desrve the extra help while im in this rut.

So how about a little bit of sympathy and decency in regards to uneducated workers, people on SSI and those who must resort to welfare, eh? All the people out there that sit on thier high horse making more than enough to get by, enjoying thier comfortable homes, cars and shiny toys; just rember--if not for those uneducated workers, (who, alot of times, are also on welfare), you woudn't have alot of the stuff you have now! Show some respect people, low and middle class workers are busting THIER asses so YOU can live comfortably!

Why is everyone so quick to judge low income or people without college degrees? Not everyone is offered the same opportunities. I graduated highschool and would like to attend college, but I can't right now. I live in a rural town and I do not have a car to get to the college to take courses. My town has no jobs and I am stuck in a rut. My not having a car prevents me from getting a better job and furthuring my education. I am trying to get out of poverty and I need help to do it. Us "regular" people need a bailout. I don't have any kids, so that means I don't get one of those huge tax checks everyone else gets once a year or I would have a car right now. A $300 stimulus check is not enough for me to get on my feet. I need to purchase a used car, insurance, etc so I can be more sufficient and get out of poverty. Low to mid income people should received a one time payment of $5000 and provide receipts that the money is being spent on the right things such as a car, education, business attire, etc. Rich people already have there gold and have nothing to complain about. Give other people a chance to shine also. All those complaining about us "regular" people should try living in our shoes for one day. Because you could lose your job or your money in a instant and you may end up needing welfare assistance!

there are several reasons why america is in an economic crisis. now me personally i dont care. i make 30,000 a year and i live quite confortably off of that because im single with no kids. that is my choice. there is nothing at all wrong with raising a family as i know that this is the norm. i choose to be different.

here are some things that america needs to tighten up on.

1. illegals. if ur not supposed to be here then leave. or stay and work i dont care. but dont draw any benefits until uve paid ur dues. thats how it is in this country.

2. dont buy crap u dont need. just because back in 1999 u got approved to buy a 400,000 dollar house for ur 4 person familiy doesnt mean u couldntve bought a 200,000 dollar house and had a payment thats 400 a month cheaper. and cars. all a car has to do is get u to work and back. it doesnt have to look nice or have a heated steering wheel. i have a car and a truck i paid a total of 3800 dollars for both.

3. as for SS. your not drawing out of money u paid in. ur drawing out of money the currant work force paid in. if thats not enough money do what my grandpa who served in the army and worked 25 years for ford does. GET A PART TIME JOB. they are out there. greet people at walmart or something. quit acting like its beneath u. if u cant live off 700 dollars a month then u obviously werent ready to fully retire. so either work or die. those are the two options in a working man or woman's society.

4. quit asking for hand outs. help urself. jobs are out there. look in the paper. there's pages of them. who cares if its not the job u want to do. u have to eat and put clothes on ur kid's backs. nothing is beneath u if ur starving. and if u cant work due to disability then my heart goes out to you. should u get a stimulus check? yes u should. because the people that take care of you pay taxes. Should illegal aliens get disability, SS, or stimulus packages? if they didnt pay taxes then no. the whole sick tired and poor thing doesnt fly anymore. America is full.

if an uneducated 25 year old from kentucky can make it happen anyone can.

For a comment about people not having the same opportunities as the EDUCATED people. That comment is for losers!!! EVERYONE has the same opportunity as the next to get an education!!! No if ands buts about it! STOP blaming everyone else and do for yourself!! The welfare system is alot of the reason why the economy is the way it is among other things! I think by OBAMA being president is only going to WORSEN the situation!! There is a reason why we have NEVER had a black president before and in the next 4yrs if he isn't assassinated by someone then it will prove my point further and America will have learned its lesson. I do think that people on SSI should get the stimmulus checks because like another said it is their own money they are getting back. The people on welfare then I think they should forfeit that money back to the system since they are already taking money from working people's future SSI. Just save the sob stories for the pope and just do better for ourselves. Seriously people...Cry yourselves a river if it makes you feel better about being low life trailer trash but for the rest of us that made something of ourselves so that we didnt have to rely on everyone else. YOU are the reason why the rest of us have to suffer. Sell your expensive cars that you can't afford and save that money and get off the assistance you don't need and leave it for the ones who really need it.

Booze and smokes are legal, and troy is wrong to recommend drug testing for welfare recipients. Why doesn't the gov't just put security cameras in our home. Maybe the gov't should just legalize drugs, so they can tax them, instead of having a whole country full of prescription drug addicts. Those prescriptions just killed my friend, not the illicit drugs. The government is ignoring some of the largest money making industries in the world, drugs.

Pat  says:

By the way, why isn't anyone commenting on the fact that only people with children get welfare? I say, give tax rebates for people who do not have children. The government should not be expected to support all of these children, just because some stupid drunk can't wear a condom, or because a woman can't stand up for herself. People- stop reproducing, we already have a crisis on our hands.

if the government woould stop "bailing out" all of these companies thatput their selves in the perdictament that they are in in the first place, and give all of that money to the people, the people could start spending that money and putting it directly back into te economy instead of trying to wait for the money to trickle down slowly to the people and eventually allowing them to spend the money and pump it back into the economy, we could get the economy back on track a whole lot quicker. But who am I to say andything I am only a lowly citizen, who is being directly hit by the recession, and not the almighty financial advisors, who are obviously making money to tell us what is good for those of us who may or may not even currently have jobs.... keep up te great work...

This is for Jasmine and all those who seem to think getting a degree is easy or possible for everyone.

I am a 22 year old student who can not get finacial aid or even some grants and not because of anything Ive done. The government has based what Im allowed on what my father makes because Im not married, 23 or a parent. Mind you my father  has 4 younger children, whose mother just died leaving them in the daily fear of be being homeless. She died a long and painful death causeing my father to lose his job for not being able to travel. Someone had to be around to help care for her and the children. With the lack of insurance the medical bills mounted $100s of $1000 upon theirselves. My father is now a college graduate who makes $9 a hr and yet he makes too much to get help or for me to get  decent finacial aid.

We both work 2 jobs and close to 70hrs a week . I also go to school full time . Would you call that lazy or easy? I wouldnt and I know that compared to some we are doing better than most where the thought of school is a mere and perhaps impossible dream.

So pehaps before you judge you should walk in someone elses shoes and see what its really like out there.

And as for your comment about why we have never a had a black president, thats merely stupidity, a stupidity that I hoped this country had perhaps grown out of. If he fails it will not have anymore to do with his skin color then Bush's skin color has to do with his failure.

Everyone has their own opinions and is very much intitled to them. I am a single mother of one with special needs and one on the way. I also have an associates degree and work fortunatly in the medical field at a hospital. I make decent money however I don't make near enough to live. I don't qualify for benifits nor do I get child support. They system really sucks. I get grocerys from Angel Food Ministries which is a blessing and its nation wide so I encourage ALL of you to look into it. You still pay for grocerys its just wholesale food. I buy all of our clothes used. I have fiqured out what are NEEDS and WANTS. THE INTERNET is not a need for most people and nor is CABLE. However my internet is free. My sons medical bills are beyond imaginable. There are so many bill collectors calling for my 8 year old son. LOL ITS CRAZY. He just got out of the hospital and was in for three months. It was over $3500 a day. Now that is one of the many visits t/o the 8 years of his life. I have to work casue SSI maximum payment to him is $600 a month. LOL Seriously its crazy. He doesn't even get that now cause we moved to TX from AZ and apparently things are differnt here. ????? Anyway his needs are more and more each year and of course that means the bills and bills are more each year. Its never ending and I can't even pay one medical bill.

As for welfare, its a blessing. It allowed my to go to college and better my career path. I was married and at one time happily married however my husband became an alcholic and drug user and then became abusive. I now am happily divorced and will remain single I am sure forever as my son and my other son to be come first. I don't have time to date.

Just to make it clear I am just statint the facts on my life not to be mistaken for complaining. I love each and every day and am thankful each and every day that I have a wonderful son. Kids are blessings and we do have to lead by example. Being wealthy doesn't change morals or how much love you have to offer. WHen I die I don't want to be remembered for how much money I made or didn't make but for how much love I had to give and the beautiful memories I made with my children, family and friends. That is more than money can buy. Going to the park, bug hunts, painting the concrete with water and many more activities that are free can make the best memories. Trials and tribulations are actually a blessing as they can make you stronger and wiser and bring you closer to God. You have to have a storm to have a rainbow. Life is full of speed bumps and will slow you down, but you get over the bump and move on. GOd bless you all.

THE stimulus package should be A DEBT FORGIVNESS for everyone as in bibical times ,this puts cash back into the market place which then makes companies expand, and hire back old employees as well as new ,corporations also will have debts forgivin allowing them to have a cash flow as well,

As for the banks n wallstreet once people have cash again they will start to reinvest. This will also STRENGTHEN THE DOLLAR AGAIN.

The best way to help the economy is just break up that 825 billion and give it to every USA adult. That would be appx. $4125.00 in each of our pockets. We could pay bills, buy some gas/oil and even go get some new clothes or a down payment on a car. Of course that's to simple for a politician to figure out.

TO: IRAQVET123 although i agree with a few of the points you said but.... how f*****g insensitive can one be.... so my husbands grandmother who only gets $400 a month and can bearly stand on her own two feet because she is in her 80's and very unstable with her balance and is almost blind in one eye and totally blind in the other can go out and work.... i don't think so asshole. her and her husband has worked and paid into the SS system for many years and that money is based on the money she has paid in and that is what she is recieving IS THE MONEY SHE HAS PAID IN. Stop acting like it is coming out of your damn pocket. She deserves the stimulus check just as much as anyone else... she paid into the taxes and is still paying taxes.... she still ownes her own home and still has to pay the property tax. Grandpa is now passed so she has to live off of just the SS check. If you are not a senior or a disable person then you can not judge anyone else. I'm glad your grandfather can work a part time job but not everyone can. and as for saying WORK OR DIE..... I think maybe YOU SHOULD DIE at least that would be one less asshole we have to worry about. So your basically saying if your too old to work and can't work no more than you should DIE before the government gives you money.... WHAT A F*****G ASSHOLE you are. I hope when the time comes and you need assistance because you can't work there isn't any help out there for you and your only options are work or die. hopefully you choose to DIE YOU INSENSITIVE BASTARD.

My mom is disabled, the money is from the money she paid into Social Security all her working career (SSDI). SSDI is from what you paid in and SSI is from the government.... I agree that some people are on SSI because they are lazy and don't want to work but their are a lot of people that just can't work like my mom.... and no matter what the situation is or why they are on disability it still is none of your damn business and they should not be judged.

YOU ALL ON HERE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES FOR JUDGING OTHER PEOPLE. YOU DON'T KNOW THEIR SITUATIONS ONLY YOUR OWN AND SHOULD NOT JUDGE ANOTHER. JUST REMEMBER THAT PERSON YOU JUDGE TODAY COULD BE YOU TOMORROW.

I have a child who has adhd, one with bi polar, one with anger issues, one with sever depression, don't feel sorry for me because i will make sure they get what they need. I take them to theripy and phych appts all the time. you name it i do it. i may have 6 kids and be on welfare but i am no lazy ass not now not ever. My friends come to me when they need help i help so many people at the college and beyond you have no idea. i'm sure i do more then a rich person who gets paid to do and I will do it for free. and i only get welfare for one child yes 359 is all i get. and I'm ok with that becase I know some day soon I will get a good job and take care of my family on my own with out your help. thanks for your time

If we do that who's gonna make my burger from McDonald's, who's gonna pump my gas? Yeah im struggling two working full time job. Just scraping by paying the bills. Would be great to get some free money. But things like that always come with a price. When you start becoming dependant on the government to pay stuff for you, what other parts of you life are you going to let them control??? I wish most would stop looking to the government to fix there problems. Hell they are the ones that got us in the mess to begin with. Almost everything financially in thisCountry revolves around the housing market. If the government is going to put out some money it needs to go there, stop the forclosures, buyup the repo's. Gotta get those off the market so house prices will start to increase again.

Ok about this whole drug testing thing. Most jobs I have had required me to drug test. Why is it so hard to understand that people like troy are not saying GO TO EVERYONE AND DRUG TEST, just like applying for a job, if you want the money, prove you aren't going to spend it on drugs and booze. Prove it will be benificial to the society. It isn't invasion of privacy... if you want the money, go get tested... hell if you have a problem with it then don't go get tested, you just want get the money... That is a choice you have to make. If you aren't going to pass the test well then your stupid ass shouldn't have been doing drugs. Funny concept huh? Should we make EVERYONE in the US test? No, because that is invasion of privacy, but if we are going to be giving money out, then we should know to whom it is going. I have had drug tests on everything from H.S. basketball to job interviews... I didn't even get the job yet! They wanted to know what kind of people were going to be at the job and so should the Government.

Well personally I'm tired of bailing people out. I work for a cell phone company and the governement recently began paying for people on foodstamps, medicaid etc. to phones at a discounted price. I don't understand. Since when are people receiving government assistance entitled to the same things as people who can pay their bills? No one actually NEEDS a cell phone. I also think the government should quit offering Medicaid. My job does not offer insurance and I can't afford it on my own. Why are people who don't work more entitled to health care than I am? If I wasn't paying for insurance for people who don't work, I may be able to afford it for myself. And by the way, I'm not judging anyone who recieves these benefits, I'm just saying "That's my money you're getting and I don't think you deserve it and I don't like the way you're spending it.

I can understand a drug test for a job. That makes sense. The employers want people they can depend on to their job. I totally agree with it. But people on welfare? It will never happen. The state system is too cheap when it comes to that. The only way it would happen is if the applicants paid for it themselves, and if you truly need the assistance, you can't afford to go get one to prove you don't. And, people don't have to be on drugs to sit on their asses all day and sell them. Thats the sad part. I've been through the system. I see all of the people that have their nails and hair done, wear top of the line clothes, and have jewelry coming off of every part of their body, while I sit their in Wal-Mart jeans and a sweatshirt, because I don't sell or do drugs, but certainly can't afford a test to prove i'm innocent. I'm not saying it's a bad idea. It's just something that will not happen.

Krystal, I'm sure that you have got to know that not all of your taxes go to the people on welfare. And you are right. It is your money, but some of it isn't. Some of it belongs to people that have also paid into it and just need to get some of it back. It's sad, but I thought almost the same thing until I lost my job. There are people out there that do need it and deserve it. As far as the ones that are cheating the system, they are asses and will get caught-eventually. They DON'T deserve it. But their kids might need the Medicaid and Food Stamps because their parents are too stupid or lazy to help them. It's not their fault, is it? The local tax system sucks too. It's not just the state that are pains. My city was in such bad shape, they closed schools and kids had to be transferred all over. All while they were building a new work out center and party center that tax payers paid for. There are people that agree with you. I do. To a point. As far as the government handing out stimulus packages, that's for the birds. They need to give it to the people that have earned it and need it. It can be used for many other things. Not to bail out companies that have buried themselves.

Krystal  says:

Well, I understand that some people just need help sometimes, and I don't mind helping people who are willing to help themselves. But it just makes me so mad sometimes! My husband and I work hard to make ends meet and still do without sometimes. And then I see people come in my office everyday wanting get cell phones and things with their food stamps and medicaid and brag about being able to get things like that while I work for it. I'm having medical problems and I can't even go to the doctor b/c I don't have insurance, but I'm not eligible food stamps and other government programs b/c i make too much money, but I still have to pay for other people to go to the doctor. This system just doesn't seem fair to me.

Let me break down some stories all that happend to me that I had to rely on foodstamps/ support.

.19 WAS RAPED BY BOYFRIEND AND GOT KNOCKED UP, HE WAS ABUSIVE AND I WAS AFRAID OF HIM AND I MOVED IN WITH HIM AND WASNT ALLOWED TO WORK AND WAS LIMETED ON HOW MUCH I COULD EAT BECAUSE HE WAS AFRAID I WOULD GET "FAT" BECAUSE OF BABY

.AGE 20, BABY AND I SENT TO ICU FOR INJURYS CAUSED BY BOYFRIEND. BOYFRIEND WAS PUT INTO A MENTAL HOSPITLE FOR 25 YRS. I WENT TO AN ABUSE SHELTER. I HAD 3 MONTHS TO STAY THERE. I GOT A JOB AND FOUND AN APT. LEMME BREAK DOWN THE FIGURES

INCOME- 1300 MONTHLY AFTER TAX - RENT 650, FOOD 200, FORMULA 150, DIPERS, 100, UTILIES- 250, NOT TO MENTION GAS, DOCTOR CO-PAYS AND MEDICATION FOR THE BABYS ASTHMA AND DAYCARE. I WAS GOING UNDER QUICK. HAD TO QUIT SCHOOL BECAUSE I MADE MORE THEN 800 I COUDNLT GET HELP WITH THAT EITHER

APPLYED FOR FOODSTAMPS AND WELFARE, COMMING FROM A WEALTHY FAMILY THIS IS HARD TO DO...BUT I WAS NOT ELIGABLE, STATE OF MO YOU MUST NOT MAKE MORE THEN 200 A MONTH AND THEY DO NOT COUNT RENT OR ANY EXPENSISE, JUST YOUR FUL INCOME

I WAS LAID OFF FROM MY JOB, LOST MY APT AND LIVED IN MY CAR. FOR THE OBVIOUS REASON I COULDNT KEEP UP. ADOPTION WAS NOT AN OPTION BECAUSE I LOVE MY SON MORE THEN LIFE. I KNEW I COULD GET BY SOMEDAY. THEN, I QUILIFIED FOR FOODSTAMPS AND A LIL MONEY $220 FOR GAS AND SUPPLYS..., THEN I GOT A JOB WAITING TABLES FOR A WHOOPING 1000 A MONTH AFTER TAXS...LOST FOODSTAMPS AND WELFARE, MOVED IN WITH A FRIEND AND SHE MADE IT SO I HAD 500 LEFT AFTER RENT/FOOD TO LIVE ON. SO I FINISHED SCHOOL, GOT A GOOD JOB AND DID OK FOR A WHILE. HERE I AM NOW, LAID OFF AS OF SEPTEMBER, SEARCHING FOR A JOB LIVING OFF FOOD STAMPS AGAIN... AND MY TEMPORY ASSTIENCE WITH NO INCOME ON MY PART...IS $220 A MONTH FOR THOSE WHO MUST KNOW. MY NEWLY FOUND BF WORKS IN THE STOCK MARKET...WE WERE DOING OK TILL FALL. SO GUESS WHAT, IVE LIVED BOTH SIDES OF THE FENCE...AND IM BACK ON THE CRAPPY SIDE... BUT WELFARE ISNT MUCH AND NEITHER IS FOOD. I GET 130 FOR FOOD FOR 3 AND MY BF PAYS THE RENT AND UNTILIES. WE USE 220 FOR GAS AND MEDICATION FOR MY SON... SO TELL ME WE ARE LAZY PEOPLE AND ANYONE ELSE. I DUNNO WHERE I WOULD BE WITHOUT THE HELP OF A FRIEND...AND I CAN SEE WHY PEOPLE CANT GET OUT OF A RUT... SO KEEP YOUR BASHING TO YOURSELF. THE ECONOMY IS TIGHT, AND EVEN THOSE WHO DO TAKE ADVANTAGE HAVE NEVER BEEN GETTING ENOUGH TO SURVIVE ON. AT LEAST HERE IN MO THEY HAVENT. I EVEN HAVE TO LIE AND SAY I USE MY 220 A MONTH FOR RENT SO THEY DONT COUNT HIS INCOME OF WHAT IS NOW ABOUT 1200 A MONTH. IM SURE WHEN THINGS PICK BACK UP WE WILL BE FINE. I'M AN IT AND HE SELLS LEADS TO STOCK BROKERS... BUT IN TUFF TIMES... WHAT CAN YOU DO? NOT EVERYONE HAS IT MADE... I COME FROM A WEALTHY FAMILY, BUT THEY LET ME SLEEP IN CAR WITH A 1 YR OLD... SO NOT EVERYONE HAS IT MADE AND ITS NOT YOUR RIGHT TO JUDGE PEOPLE

I ALSO DONT THINK THAT THOSE PEOPLE ON WELFARE HAVE THE RIGHT TO HAVE A CREDIT CARD IF YOU CAN MAKE PAYMENTS ON A CREDIT CARD U SHOULD BE ABLE TO FEED YOUR OWN FAMILY.

As a single mother who was making just a bit above minimum wage at two jobs, i graduated with honors from college and managed to feed myself and my son, keep a roof over my head and all without aid from the state or national government. Was it easy? HELL NO! Did i get to buy designer clothes, cell phone plans, and name brand food items? NOOOOO! But i am proud to say i did it and didn't ask for help. I understand some people must because of their situations but we see less and less of able bodied people doing what needs to be done and more of what is easy to do. And in the mean time, i taught my son some valuable lessons about life.

and it's not as easy as you think to get a job. you must have one. not to mention, college isn't as great as you think. some people get farther on experience than a degree. i have my masters and it's still almost impossible to find someone hiring and getting an interview let alone getting the job. people will think as they do, but alot will not do as they think. that's the sad part.

it is amazing how much ignorance i am seeing in these comments. do people honestly think that those who are on ss or ssi enjoy it? do you think it is so easy to just get this get a life, i don't qualify for either of them because of my situation , yet am unable to work because of a severe injury caused by someone else had i not stayed home with my kids and had had a PAYING job (no mothers who choose to raise their own kids are not paid, and alot of moms would love to be able to or dads but because of the economy can't so is not a slam against them at all i respect all who choose to work or not work with their kids , just to make this clear) while i did not have a paying job i also volunteered at the schools and hospitals ect , so because of my condition i can not work and no we don't get any help from anyone else we are trying to maintain our life as it is. my medicine that thankfully i have ins for is over 2500.00 A MONTH, if the drug companys were not allowed to fleece us dry my poor husband who has worked his entire life to provide for us would be able to retire. b ut we manage to make ends meet. we pay our own ins it costs us 1700.00 a month so i can have my medicine i need to live.

this is directed at those of you who seem to think is so easy to go out and get a education, are you not aware of tution costs? we sent our kids to schools and yse they got their degrees and in my sons case his masters and yet he still does not have a continuing job. he is a teacher. everyone says teachers are in high demand well guess what YOUR WRONG he has tried for 5 years to get hired on full time, it has yet to happen. so get OFF your high horses and thinking your all so much better than us who don;t have degrees not allcan afford it. the money i recieved from the idiots ins went for my kids degrees otherwise we would not have been able to provide then college and they could not have afforded to go, my son has student loans he will be paying on for years to come,

i do agree as far as the immigrants and illegals, they should not get anything different than the average american . be they of any ethnics or white, race should NOT be a part of it i too agree we need a overhaul of the welfare situation but please do NOT belittle the young parents who need to get food stamps to feed their children or the older citizens who have to choose between medicine and food. never judge another until you walk in their shoes

so if our president is sending out stimulate checks yes i will take it and yes maybe i will use it for something fun. oh lets see i can pay my light bill with it so i can afford to have lights stop judging others those of you who do should be ashamed of yourselves. howdare you judge those who you have no clue and because they are black or white, or asian or hispanic, if they are americans paying taxes like you and me where do YOU get off judging, see someone who drives a fancy car and is on welfare turn them in but don't judge all by the same brush someday YOU may be there god forbid that happen you might have to lower yourself for something as simple of eating. amazing to me how stupid some of you sound

It really bothers me to see how people judge each other. There are some of us who have tried our best and still fail because of circumstances beyond our control. You are working two jobs (both part-time, minimum wage), going to school part time and suddenly some unforseen situation puts you on your back. So now you have to live in poverty and be judge by society as lazy, low-life, undeserving, etc. Let me tell you what it's like to live on government assisistance. 1. You have to account for everything you get. 2. You have to live with someone else, never having a place of your own. 3. You have to buy clothes from thrift stores and yard sales. 4. You have a bare minimum of health care (medicaid is bare bones healthcare) 5. You will never own a home. 6. If you are lucky enough to find a cheap enough vehicle, good luck keeping up repairs. These things are bare essentials. Sure, there are people abusing the system, but most are not. I know people that abuse the government grant system, sell food stamps for crack, cheat on their taxes, etc. What I'm trying to say is, your financial situation does not define you, your character does. I'm willing to bet some of these "high- horse judges" I've been reading here, probably lie, cheat, abuse their children, drink too much, and many other things worthy of the Jerry Springer show. So don't put people down as people because they are unable to work and need help. Just because you see it as a sin and it is not YOUR way of sinning.

Lost my job, my ranch with 2 homes on it, cars, and dignity. I do take drug tests, but it is to see that I take my meds and dont sell them....when does it ever end. I would say you all need your heads examined. People abuse everything, even the ones working. I had 250 employees I was responsible for, and none were perfect.......and neither are you poor misinformed people writing these poorly thought out comments.

I now get SSDI after a 5 year fight with the social security, and get $780 a month to live on. You all better hope nothing happens to you making it impossible to work, or it could be you peeing in a cup for foodstamps.

I've read almost everyone's comments and I feel that ppl have a right to their own opinion but lets keep it real for a moment. EVERYONE is struggling at this point except for the rich. Who cares about the middle class and the low income ppl? No one! We are all out here struggling and trying to get by everyday and no one can see that. (The rich!!!) To me the rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer. This is sad! I'm a mother of two and have a husband and we still can't get through the rough times. My husband and I have our own thing going for as getting money and it's still hard. (We're owner operators) This Country is so fucked up nobody can get ahead even if they wanted to. I'm not going to sit here and blame everyone but somebody needs to take the blame. While Wall Street and the Gov. is out here getting money, we are the ones looking stupid by not being able to do anything. I'm surrounded by ppl that are on welfare, that sell drugs that do eveything imaginable and even that has slowed down for some. To me N.C. is the worst out of all places in the US to live. My Opinion!! Ppl that I know don't know what else to do to get money. Me all I can do now is pray that everything will get better and ppl that are living worst than me can make it with me. We need to come to gether and let our voice be heard instead of talking bad about each other. Things can't get no worst than this. EVERYONE

The last stimulus rebate income base was set to high if a couple are making 250,000 and a single person 175,000 and still got the same amount as a person making 30,000 or 18,000 for a single person. These people were able to put it in there nest egg instead of spending and stimulating the economy. The people with lower incomes are the ones going to do the stimulating there the ones that are going to be spending instead of hording it in a savings account.

The time has come for the American government to realize and recognize that the economic is from the bottom up. When middle to low income folks have no money to shop, purchase cars, travel, go to the movies, or spend money on anything other than the normal household items and utilities, then the economic will suffer. It is the little people that keeps most of these entities running. Maybe we do not have a lot of money, but we do like to have some of the finer things in life. Knowning all of that the administration needs to make sure not only that the car industries and banking institutions get help, but that the government makes sure that if they are bailed out that some sort of relief is given to the consumer. Car industry could waive tow or three payments, etc.

A few years ago there was a shortage of the flu vaccinations. I was a single working mom and paid healthcare, I was outraged when I tired to get in to get a flu shot for my son and I and was told vaccinations were first given to the elderly which I can understand that but the next in line were children and families on the medical card (welfare). Ok if I get sick I can't work or pay my bills, but those who didn't work were eligible before me. WTF. I actually went home and cried because I felt cheated and felt our system is wacked. Then last week I went with a friend to a charity hospital while waitng for her to be seen I started talking with a woman bragging that she never pays for medical care and a few minutes later was telling me all about her cruise trip she was taking and all the others she had been on. The only thing that brings me comfort about situations like these is what comes around goes around!

There is a difference between the people who NEED and cannot work and get welfare/food stamps and the people who can work and choose not to so the state can help support their kids, I know people on food stamps who take vacations and drive nice cars with big rims and they wont take the time to even attempt to get a full time or a 2nd job to provide for their family. It is just easier for the state to help out.

My dad got a second job to support me and my brother when we were little and I did the same when I had financial troubles a while back.

THINK ABOUT IT IF THE MENTAL DISABLE AND DRUGIES DONT GET HELP YOU MAY BECOME THEIR VICTIM. I GREW UP IN A NEIGHBORHOOD WHERE 65% OF THE PEOPLE HAD TO BE ON WELFARE. WHAT WOULD BE THE POINT OF WORKING AND GIVING YOUR PAYCHECK TO YOUR BABYSITTER. WHAT IS THE POINT OF WORKING AND GAMBLING WITH YOUR CHILDREN's LIFE BY LEAVING THEM WITH A BABYSITTER WHO MAY ABUSE YOUR CHILD. WHEN MY MOTHER WORKED I WAS VERY SAD AND NERVOUS. WHEN MY MOTHER GOT WELFARE AND STAYED HOME I WAS A HEALTHY AND HAPPY CHILD. SHOULD A MOTHER TAKE A CHANCE OF HAVING THEIR CHILD'S HEAD STUCK IN THE TOILET, OR HAVING THEM DANGLE BY THEIR LEGS DOWN A WINDOW FROM THE 10TH FLOOR?

I HAVE WORKED SINCE 15. NOW DUE TO ALL THE ABUSE AND STRESS OF LIFE I AM USELESS AND VERY SICK. SINCE I NEVER HAD MONEY OR BEAUTY I WAS NOT ALBE TO HAVE A FAMILY. I REGRET THAT I DIDNT HAVE A PACK OF KIDS AND GONE ON WELFARE. I WENT TO SCHOOL AND WORKED. NOW I WILL END UP DYING IN A ABUSIVE NURSING HOME. I HAVE NO KIDS NOR MONEY. IF THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT WANT TO HELP ME THEN THEY SHOULD PUT ME TO SLEEP.

I've read all the postings today, I've read the stimulas plan, I've watched politicians talked about how good or bad the plan is and I'm as frustrated as the rest of you.

I am married with two adult grown children, one with 4 kids, and the other is going to school full time for her final year and after nine years of working a full time job and going to college part time; I haven't worked for six years but hushband works full time for a salary, so his hours average 60 to 80 hour weeks and he also receives pension from military service.

I don't work because I have assisted with the care of our parents, with all four of them with serious illness or advanced age, and helped care for grandchildren while parents go to college or work. One grandchild has severe disabilities.

Husband and I have supported four households, (five sometimes when parents social securtiy checks can't make their medical and household bills). We pay a mortgage for two homes one for us one for son and family, we pay rent for daughter, we had a nest egg in IRA account which is nearly gone.

At this rate we will be working until my youngest grandchilds kids are in college or dead. I recently recieved my social security information telling me I am short 20 terms of employment to qualify for my own social securtiy that I have already paid in.

My adult children had assistance from us for them to go to school because they couldn't qualifiy for college assistance. They were taught to work hard, be a good person, and be respectfull of others and God will help them in the end.

Now my son and family have to receive assistance to help put food on their table, their oldest child receives SSI, and daughter in law can't work because of grandchild needs constant care and assistance. Son was told not to make to much money or they will loss SSI for oldest child which they can't do without or her medical assistance that she receives. He has several degrees, and has license for starting his own business, but he can't because there are no loans for starting new businesses, so he is working a minimum wage job at a graveyard shift to keep things together.

So now please someone tell me how this stimulas package is going to help us? We don't have anything to do with the transportation issues, nor do we meet the criteria set for tax credits, and we don't work for major corp. We don't have personal agendas in pork packages that the leaders we elected feel is important to their constituents.

So again how does this plan help us?

I think a lot of you are greedy and angry b/c the people who do get welfare and ssi/ssdi are going to receive some of the perks. I think you all need to sit back, take a deep breath, and realize that it's time for America to break bread. Nobody deserves to have it ALL! There are people who were denied opportunity because of stereotype and the color of their skin, so just because pages of jobs are available (and that's not a current reality) doesn't mean they are available to you if you are poor and Black. I have seen places hire a white ex-felon before they would a Black one. Some of you are just angry because Obama is fighting for the rights of the poor and he's making the selfish break bread with us! LOL.. Face it! You can't stop it! It's our time! We will recieve. If we dont get your 40 acres and amule one way, we'll get it another! I believe in working for mine everyday, but when you are disabled and can't work or discriminated against b/c you are Black, it's a damn shame and what else are you to do? We all need help!

no one can border the land of the unconstitutional like our government. In 1913 we lost control of our ability to print our own money. Now we must borrow it at interest from an internationally owned private enterprise called the federal reserve. debt is on the menu we just forgot what we ordered as a nation of consumer sheeple. The wheels keep on turning and we keep printing more money. What shall happen when the fed calls in our debt?

I believe troy has a point, I don't believe that all people on Welfare do drugs, my parents fell hard many years ago and ask for assistant to get us by, but we pull thru and my parents got back on their feet.

Look discriminating will always be a huge factor when it comes to the Government, I live in the Los Angeles area, and I believe that the Welfare Dept. is full of to many Arminians So Cal Social Workers that I cannot believe that the majority of Arminian residents drive fancy expensive cars and live of our taxes and sit on there ass and do nothing; that is exactly what pisses me off, but yes some of these people under assistance should be investigated, not ALL just those that act like they need help, but not really need it, you get my drift.

I work really hard and on top of all; I have to attend college to better myself financially in the future, god knows what we are headed towards in this economy, nothing is guaranteed until our President Obama starts pushing our Congress and Officials to fix our country economy problem that many of us are facing at the very least day.

If your going to stimulate the economy then give all US citizens, not on welfare a 100k stimulus check. You must be single, head-of-household, married and making under 150k. Instead of bailing out all these companies bail out the American people. I was laid-off last year in October like many others I am in the same situation where it's difficult to pay your bills and survive. I am behind with my creditors and just paying the basics to survive. There are so many people in this same situation, and they have families. Thank goodness I am single and no children to worry about, besides losing my home to foreclosure. I don't know about you, but this would pay off all my bills and I would be able to put money back into our economy.

Think about it jack ass all of us who server for YOUR FUCKING FREEDOM, for you to post on here, for you to have a house and a family... YOU ARE FUCKED UP. In my opinion, the stimulus money in bulk should go to the Social Security Administration. The elderly senior citizens on S.S. are struggling to survive from month to month. How is $250.00 going to help them???? Some of their Medications are more than that a month. This is why senior citizens have to still work even though they are retired. This is really redicluous!!!! They just don't get enough money every month to live on, only to just SURVIVE.

People, are you actually serious? I have literally read each and every comment that is posted on this page. Do you think we, as people, are given an amount of money in this stimulus package based on each sob story? We all have our own sob stories, but it's time to move on.

I believe that people that are on public assistance should be drug tested, so, in turn, I agree with quite a few people here. But, let me tell you, this is only my opinion. My husband and I both get drug tested at work to keep our jobs in order to receive our paychecks, so why shouldn't people on public assistance be tested to receive their money from the government? It is not, by law, illegal to drug test. I realize and understand that some people, to which I have been one, need help from time to time with some type of assistance. There is nothing wrong with that. But, if you're not doing any type of illegal drugs, there is no problem. This is not an invasion of privacy. Am I missing something?

Another thing, people who receive Social Security retirement or Social Security Disability should receive some type of stimulus. It is true that these recipients receive a monthly amount based on what they have, in their lives, paid into Social Security. Why is this such a big problem? These recipients barely make ends meet with the growing costs of heath insurance, medications, co-pays, etc. So again, I believe that they should, above all, receive something from this diminishing government.

Listen, I realize that whatever the government decides to give to each of us, it still won't be enough. We really do need to stop bailing out the multi-billion dollar companies, such as the automakers. I read up above here where one person called it a "bandaid". This is very true. We, as the people of this country, still will not have the money or means to buy new vehicles. So, the question then becomes... how much time will it take before the automakers are back in the same place they were?

As far as debt forgiveness goes, that's just ridiculous. We are the ones that went and got ourselves in the predicaments that we are in with the expensive home loans and high credit card payments. It's our responsibility to get ourselves out. I know that it is hard to make these payments, because I am one of the millions of people struggling, but I wouldn't look to the government to provide me with debt forgiveness. (Although it would be nice.)

In short, the government needs to provide us (lower/middle class) with something more than a few hundred dollars to cure the problem we have in this economy.

I THINK EVERY HOUSEHOLD SHOULD GET $100,000 OR MORE, THAT WOULD BOOST THE ECONONY BETTER THAT EVERYTHING. I LOST MY PARENTS ALMOST 8 YEARS AGO IN A CAR ACCIDENT, RECEIVED INHERITANCE, THEN I ENDED UP IN A DIVORCE AFTER 28 YEARS OF MARRIAGE, WAS LEFT IN A $1500.00 A MONTH MORTGAGE WITH NO JOB SINCE I DIDNT WORK JUST ABOUT 25 YEARS OF THAT MARRIAGE, WAS A HOUSEWIFE AND RAISED MY CHILDREN. I COULDNT AFFORD TO STAY IN THAT HOME ANYMORE DURING THE DIVORCE SO MOVED AND REMARRIED A MAN THAT TOOK ALL MY MONEY THAT I HAD LEFT AFTER BEING LEFT IN A HOME THAT I COUDLNT AFFORD ANYMORE WITH THE KIDS. THE MAN THAT A MARRIED THEN TOOK WHAT MONEY THAT I HAD LEFT AND USED IT ON DRUGS, WHEN I CAUGHT HIM USING THE DRUGS A THREW HIM OUT AND DIVORCED HIM, AFTER I THREW HIM OUT I FOUND OUT THAT HE HAD TAKEN ALL MY MONEY AND OPENED HIM A CHECKING ACCOUNT WITH JUST HIS NAME ON IT IN ANOTHER BANK. NEEDLESS TO SAY I DIDNT GET ANY OF IT BACK. I NOW OWE THE IRS $20,OOO AND THE STATE THAT I USED TO LIVE IN AROUND $10,000. NEEDLESS TO SAY I CANT PAY ANY OF THAT. I AM REMARRIED NOW FOR 2 YEARS TO A GREAT MAN AND HE IS DISABLED AND CANT WORK, SO I WENT TO WORK AND WAS WORKING 2 MINIMUM WAGE JOBS AND NOW I HAVE BEEN LAID OFF FROM BOTH OF THEM BECAUSE OF THE BUSINESSES CLOSING AND CANT FIND ANOTHER JOB ANYWHERE. IF I RECEIVED MONEY LIKE THAT THEN I COULD PAY OFF MY TAX DEBT AND THEN HAVE SOME LEFT OVER TO FIX UP MY HOME, PAY SOME BILLS AND GET MY CAR FIXED, SINCE IT IS BROKEN AND I HAVE TO BORROW MY FATHER-IN-LAWS TRUCK TO GET AROUND BECAUSE MY HUSBAND CANT DRIVE AND I HAVE TO TAKE HIM TO THE DOCTOR AND TO THE ER FREQUENTLY BECAUSE HE FALLS ALOT, ALSO THE MONEY WOULD BE GREAT JUST TO BE ABLE TO EAT, WE HAVE TO GO TO FOOD PANTRYS BUT YOU CAN ONLY GO TO ONE OF THEM EVERY OTHER WEEK, ONE IS EVERY 3 MONTHS AND ONE IS EVERY 4 MONTHS, AND THEY WONT GIVE US FOR $14.00 A MONTH IN FOOD STAMPS BECAUSE THEY SAY THAT WE MAKE TOO MUCH TO QUALIFY, THEY SAY WE HAVE TO MAKE NOT OVER $1500.00 A MONTH FOR 2 PEOPLE AND WE DONT MAKE THAT AT ALL BETWEEN HIS DISABILITY AND MY UNEMPLOYMENT, SO WE HAVE APPEALED THE DECISION BUT HAVENT HEARD ANYTHING YET AND PROBABLY WONT BECAUSE WHEN I CALL I CANT GET A STRAIGHT ANSWER FROM ANYONE, JUST A BIG RUNAROUND. I AM SURE WE ARE NOT ALONE HERE AND ALOT OF PEOPLE WOULD BENEFIT FROM A LARGE SUM OF MONEY BEING GIVEN TO EVERY HOUSEHOLD.

Money... Currency... Power... Fear... Thats America's Recipe for dissaster. All I can say is Pray for a hope for mankind. Billions of years to make such a perfectly balanced world for life. Yet it only took 100 years of man, industry and greed to destroy. Globle Warming, Oil and Religious Wars. Homeland Wars, Fammen, and Hate. The Kill or be Killed land we live in. Too much to fix at once. Well the question is, which one is more important. Throwing money around like its going to save the world? Who's the superman for the country now? Should we all feel sorry for ourselves. No. What happend to our American Pride? Didn't we supposably build and base our free country on hard work and sacrifice? Not sacrifice jobs for large bonus ckecks to the executives so the cut and lay off hardworking " Americans " from their jobs to receive that 2 billion to add to their 20 billion they made last year. Wasn't it Exxon Mobile's highest profit year ever from Oil in 2008? When we destroy all of the middle east because of the war, how is the poorest country's ever going to pay us back when America rebuilds them for them? Hmmm... Oil? More to Come

I believe the "bailout" is just making the economy even worse. The US government is already in debt some million dollars itself, so where is the money coming form? Printing money doesn't help the US what so ever because that just lowers the value of our money. It's because the people in the world has become money hungry and spend way more then they can count for which causes the companies and corporations to become in debt because they aren't getting payments. It's a cycle that is going to take years to even become "better" simply because it took years to get this way. I do believe Congress spends money very easily and on dumb things; they need to be more responsible about how they spend money. In one of my college classes, I learned that the majority of the US government money goes to Welfare and such. The part that makes me angry is the people with 4 kids and can work but choices to have nothing in life and live off our money. I think the elders in the US needs to be taking care of because most are unable to work but the people that are lazy and would rather sit home have nothing are the ones that get the money. I don't think it's going to be an easy fix like our president claims.

I can't understand where all these comments are coming from? This was all suppose to be about the stimulus package and now all I have really seen is a bunch of people bashing other people. No one know's others situations and why they are in the slump they are in. Throwing a bunch of hurtful comments out there to hurt others isnt doing much for people. People are people no matter who they are. And when it comes down to it... we need to help eachother. As for the stimulus package...if it's going to help a family put food on the table for their kids or medical needs then im all for it. We are all people and we all need a helping hand one time in out lives. DON'T DEGRADE OTHERS AS FOR SOMEDAY IN THE FUTURE YOU MAY BE ONE OF THESE PEOPLE!!

In responce to Tyra, she is right. Why hurt people with the nasty and rude comments. If someone told you, "your not going to recieve the package because your on SSI or Welfare or what ever the case" tell me you would NOT be hurt because of your situation your in. You need to buy food, get meds or car fixed etc... Oh well too bad for you because your having rough times. So what if you go hungry or your child needs meds. People need to stick together and help eachother out in times of need. Comments made about people are so incredibley painful to read. Why do that to others? Those people that your making these comments about would most likley give you the shirt off their back if you needed it. I have seen alot in my days and trust me...not all jobs are secure and someday you may need a helping hand, Or you get very sick and need medical attention and assistance from welfare...your human as with everyone else. Yes some abuse the system, this I understand and when the time comes they will do their time. But just remember one thing, Someday you may be one of them! Do you think alot of these people are proud of their down fall? Do you think they are proud to go use food stamps? Whip out their Medicaid card at the doctors office or pharmacy? These are people who need a helping hand till they get their feet back on the ground. Times are tough and hurting others isnt helping the situation. I am fortunate to have what I have but I dont look down on others. Anyway you look at it "PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE AND WE ALL NEED TO SURVIVE"

OK one last comment for Zane I would have to say you are one of the most disrespectful people ive read on here. Here you are talking about having parents for good role models....let me inform you of something..you honestley didnt have very good role models yourself as a child to write stuff like that about people you don't even know!!!

Our governmant is so corrupt and the war on terror is BS! The government only does that so they may put a military base in that country and steal from them, it's called foreign trade. Ask, who do we need to pay the deficit too????? The federal reserve owned by the bankers, who are asking for this bailout, who screwed millions of Americans out of there homes and credit! And threw major parties across our nation, renting out hotles, etc., hiring Earth Wind and Fire, Sheryl Crow for their entertainment and giving gifts from Tiffany's and bonuses!

Stop wasting our hard earned tax dollars. People this is our money, our money, we are the slaves for this government. These people can't even warn hardworking tax paying Americans about a terrorist attack, they rather read to little iliterate children . Do your homework, every war is a lie and maybe our government is the terrorists. This one is to Brandon Hall.  I get Disability and deserve every penny of it. It is MY money. I worked my Butt off from age 16 to 48 with a couple years off for having my kids in my early 20's. I fell at work in a Garden Center and they totally screwed me and payed Zilch. I have suffered badly with not one, not two but 7 knee surgeries and knee cap surgery which has made it almost impossible for me to sit or stand longer than 2hours without horrible pain. I would LOVE to work but can't now. If my Hubby did not have a half decent job we would NEVER be able to survive on the tiny amount I get on Disability so why don't you "Shut up" unless you know what you are talking about. Disability comes from people who have worked hard in their lives but can't now due to some kind of injury or Cancer or ect. Some of the people you speak of on Disability may also be our Countries Heroes like our soldiers who were wounded in battle. Disability is NOT a Hand out. It is something every WORKING US CITIZEN deserves when it is necessasary due to sickness or injury. This IS OUR MONEY that we have worked for for years. I never asked for anything else like food stamps or ect because my hubby works and we have just barely been able to pay our bills but don't have much left after bills. We did have to have a credit counseling for 5 years because of my medical bills and it was hard but it is almost done now. Thank God! My Husband and I have always been hard working US citizens until my bad fall at work when I was no longer able to work. Disability people do not get much money. Disability people deserve the money from a stimulus package also and do not sit around eating steak. My pain is so severe sometimes I don't even care if I eat at all. Shame on you!!

AS someone else said above about drug testing. Good idea! Test me I don't care. The only drugs I can afford for this pain is Tylenol rapid release. I also agree that the money should have been given to the people not the banks/auto industry. I have been watching Fox News and am sick hearing the stupid ways these people are using tax payers money. My Hubby works hard for his money as do others and the American people would have found much better ways to spend it and help our economy. The banks and auto people say that they are not using the stimulus money but OTHER money for bonuses and ect.. Well if they would not have spent the money on huge bonuses and trips and concerts then they wouldn't have needed the taxpayers money to begin with. How sick is this???

I work my butt off and so does my husband. We have a decent home, one decent vehicle and 2 used vehicles (1 is for our 17 year old). On the surface it looks like we are doing "good" by middle class standards, but really we are struggling. It is very frustrating that my husband's first wife works only part time--on purpose, gets her rent reduced to $17 a month, gets child support on 2 kids from 2 different men, is on medicare and gets food stamps. She has NO bills! The kids from his marriage to her now live with us but visit their mother. The kids get very irritated with us when we say we cant afford something because their mother has convinced them that we are RICH! HA! Meanwhile, their mother is able to have horses, goes out to eat all the time, buys every new DVD as they are released and takes the kids ice skating, etc. While we work our butts off she gets to be funtime mom and because she has convinced them that she is so POOR they appreciate every pack of gum she buys them. There is absolutely no reason she cant work full time other than the fact that she has no education. Physically she is fine.

Is she abusing the system? In my opinion yes. BUT THERE ARE SOOOO MANY OUT THERE WHO JUST NEED A LEG-UP to get themselves out of a bad situation and get it together. Welfare and/or state assistance should not be a long term option and each case should be evaluated at least once a year. They claim there isnt enough staff to accomodate for this...HIRE THE UNEMPLOYED AND TRAIN THEM! Everyone makes poor decisions at young ages that often times follow them the rest of their days. Education? College?? I myself was unable to attend college because I did not qualify for funding and was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I did what I could, OTJ training and 14 years later I am a manager of a veterinary clinic.

Those of you griping about welfare--get over it. There are many who need it and unfortunately there are far more who abuse it. I know it is a thorn in your side that you work so hard or have the education to back up the fact that you have earned your way through. Just remember that your circumstances could change in the blink of an eye and you could be "down on THEIR level" sitting in the welfare office in the seat next to them applying for the same money.

I starting reading this thread to find out if there would be checks this year...not to hear everyone complain about this and that. I dont care what the amount is. While the more they give out will only help me, I dont EXPECT it and wont be planning my budget on it.

Those of you complaining about the possibility of a small check...ANYTHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING!!! While I would love to have 100k for my household let's be realistic! Wanting that much in my opinion is just greedy.

On a side note...planning on getting money on your tax returns is a bad idea. We assumed we would get back about the same as we did last year, but no. Our oldest child turned 17 in December causing us to lose the child tax credit of $1000.00. While I agree that people should not be "rewarded" for having children, cutting it off at 17 is tough. 17 and 18 can be the most expensive time in a teens life with senior year and graduation, ACT's and SAT's cost money, etc. The average teenage life includes prom, senior pictures, yearbook, homecoming, etc. THIS ALL ADDS UP! I believe the child tax credit should be used ON THE CHILD and now when I need it most it is gone. I personally think this should change to the age of 19 when the average child has graduated and moved on to college or a life of their own. Just my 2 cents...

Why do people that worked a few years or even worked for a long time think that they deserve food stamps because they paid in money while they was working. Yes it is true that they paid in money while they was working, but keep in mind the money the paid in was not for food stamps in case the fall on hard times and need them. The money they paid in is for SSA when they retire, so are these people when they reach retirement age and qualify for SSA going to bring up the fact that they received food stamps for a certain length of time so that amount needs to be deducted from the SSA checks, yeah I don't think so. The company I work for froze our raises 8 years ago and I don't know if we will ever get them back, instead of reaching out for food stamps, because I paid in money from working, I went back to college. If people feel they deserve food stamps because they paid money while they was working, than hell give us all food stamps.

I have been saying this for month's. Instead of giving the money to corp. give everyone family or couple or single person who has lost their home $250,000 with the stipulation they have to buy a foreclosed home. Helps the economy. Give people who about to lose their home money to pay them off. Helps the economy. Then unemployed people who have lost their jobs and get a lesser paying job for the time being and not have to worry about losing their homes. Helps the economy. You keep giving to banks they just give themselves bonuses and do nothing. I know, I bought a home and it was the worst piece of crap in the world, Within 1 month of moving in everything broke and no one would help, not realtor, bank, no one. Lost it now renting. Maybe someone should look into helping the little guy instead of the guy who is not willing to help

Our government is really messed up and we may have to help ourselves because I don't think they are going to do much for us. If you have alot of bill debt like credit cards and loans then please get a credit counceling. The reason I say this is that I have had one for 5 years. I was in big trouble because I was using credit cards for medical bills and prescriptions and it became overwhelming. These people in the credit counseling work with you and get you to a liveable amount each month but you are still paying all your bills. Most of your creditors will cut your interest rate if you are on credit counseling. They just want their money and most will work with you. I had about 14 creditors on mine and am down to 3 now that are all under $300.00 each or less. Having this fixed amount on your bills will help you continue to keep up on the other bills like mortage, car payments and ect. If you cannot afford your larger home or more expensive vehicle then down-size. I have seen alot of folks having to do this but having a less expensive home is better than none at all. If your car payment is over $300.00 a month maybe you need a less expensive one. I had some friends downsize on that also and traded their expensive gas guzzlers in for a smaller more economical vehicle for around $250.00 a month compared to $4 or 5 hundred a month. I am not sure what nicslick80 was talking about with people shouldn't make over $100.000 a year. That is the average combined income of two working middleclass people. I do agree that the $250,000 income for the stimulus checks were a bit high. The highest amount for a single person should have been 125,000 and the couple no more than $200,000 income combined. If you are making over that then you are in the borderline between uppermiddle to wealthier.

There are alot of people on this forum that are in the lower middleclass and need that stimulus check badly including people on assistance. Why are we attacking each other on here? It is more like us against them (the government). Pretty much everyone (who is even on assistance now) has worked and payed into this country one way or another and the government is throwing our futures down the drain. They say that the bailout to the banks will be a trickle-down when they start giving out loans again. How do we know that? Who's to say the banks don't just say "Thanks for the money"   but still not give out the loans. I agree with someone above about the auto industry also. They totally mismanaged their companies. When we had gas shortages in the 70's they should have been working on better fuel economy engines but what did they do? They built huge SUV's and trucks. They are going to be like that crazy relative that always shows up all the time for money because they keep spending spending and don't have any plans for themselves. The cars we should be driving, the stupid auto industry charges so much for that no one can afford the hybrids. Those hybrids should be rolling off the assembly line and at an affordable price that most low to middleclass people can afford plus the government should have Huge incentives to buy them. Stop making the expensive huge gas guzzlers because they are just sitting now in the Car lots. Sad thing is thou that even if one wanted to buy one, just try to get a loan from the mismanaged banks right now. HMMM!! A bit of a catch 22 if you know what I mean.  Anyhow. Right now don't say cruel things about others misfortune. I have read some very sad tales on here. These people need help and understanding. The Government doesn't care but WE should about each other. If you see someone having problems and you have some extra then help them. I can honestly say I do. We will get thru this mess but it will be us that makes the improvement/difference because we aren't going to see shit from our government. Half of their stupid plans are going to take YEARS to happen. Why these projects take so long to start I have NO IDEA. Its ridiculous! Get the materials and DO IT. Stop talking about it and get it done. Major kuddos to the above serviceman for his dedication to our country. I myself Thank You for my safety and my life from my heart. You are a real Hero. Its all where "they" want it to be, and how "they" want it to be. When i say "they" i do mean the government, and more or less the federal reserve!! completly unconstitutional on all accounts!!Its a very corrupt world we are living in, but most people like to live on hopes and prayers that things will change!! I on the other hand wish that "We the people" could really understand and comprehend what is really happening out there. If you live off the state and have most of your life than shut up, the government is all for white trash people that don't believe in working and never will work. The high stimulus checks that people are wanting and hoping for should not go for people that are living off the state, they had everything handed over to them and they just expect the government to give the more, get a life and support yourself and the kids you bring into this world. I am tired of hearing people saying they are disabled and can't work, I know a lot of people that are getting disability checks that are in a lot better health than I am but I can't live on the state for 2 years while I am proven to be disabled. I rememer a 2 years ago I would open up the Tampa Tribune and there would be 3 pages of employment positions available, now you open it and you might get lucky if there is a half of a line in the employment section.

I completed school for MA 4 months ago, with a 4.0 GPA, posting and sending out resumes and there is nothing out there. And for the one who is complaining because money gets taken out because someone owed child support, well then maybe the deadbeat parent should have been paying while they were working. Stop arguing, it is pointless. Oh, and if you think I get welfare WRONG, my husband works 40+ hours a week, people can make it on that with a family with out living in the ghetto or living low, you just need to know how to budget you money and how to live right. We eat very well, live in a nice house. Yes, I am tired of driving down the road, pass the food stamp office and see BMW, Escalades and all the higher end class cars, people dressed like Mr. T. And not doing anything. But we all know what they must be doing to own those, because foodstamps does not make a car payment. God Bless.

I have sat and read alot of comments posted and I would like to say "to each and his own" you do what you can to survive in times of crises, not sit around and pass judgement, or curse the government, what change does that make? The comments about blacks, cars, drug money, I think that is typical white america. I am white, divorsed, have 5 kids and work in retail, got to college, I take care of my family, and Hell yes If I qualify for any public assistance, by all means I will be there, because I am paying taxes. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer when in American history has this ever changed?

I think it is time Americans started helping Americans. We need to stop depending on the government to help bail us out, to many rich people in each other's pockets.

1st the problems that exist in the White House are not because Obama became president. Bush denied we were falling into a recession and refused to take the steps necessary to prevent the massive job-losses, bankruptcy, and financial burden we face today. Bush was the worst president America has had in over 30 yrs. Why isn't there an investigation into his years as president and what he hasdone to the economy? Clinton had an affair and we had to investigate that. Give me a break if the only crime a president commits is being unfaithful to his/her spouse how is that a concern for America? Our economy didn't falter overnight. The only reason so many people realize the mess we are in is because Obama finally took the blinders off of our eyes, stopped feeding us bullshit, and is open with the issues that Bush as messed up! This problem has been coming since the day Bush said lets attack Iraq...has anyone taken into consideration because he made that decision he is the reason we are a mess. We went to Iraq because they had weapons of mass destruction where are these weapons? Do we honestly think that Saddam was moving these weapons in the middle of the night? Have you ever tried to travel with a family of four people? That alone is no small task so how can an army move weapons during the night hours with out anyone being able to track them? Underground tunnels, I don't think so!

Back to Americans helping Americans..maybe if everyone would be willing to stop thinking about themselves and start thinking about what we as a nation could do to solve the problem. Someone mentioned early on that there are 300 million Americans in the world what would happen if a fund was created that required everyone gave $1.00. Then have people apply for a loan from this account that was absolutely tax free and 0% interest. The requirements to obtain this loan would be individually you had to earn or receive benefits of less than $50,000 a yr individually, $100,000 yr for couples filing jointly, and add $15,000 for each child dependent under the age of 18 with only being able to claim upto a maxium of 4 children. The terms of applying for a loan should require the individual to sit with a credit counselor to determine their needs and in reality how much would one be able to pay back within a fixed time frame that is reasonable. A lot of the leg work for this project would need to be volunteered time..because lets face it the reason everything cost so much is because too many Americans are greedy.

The drug problems that exist in America is not because of the poor people on wealth-fare. It is because someone was looking for a job and someone rich said to them hey I know how to make you rich, try this and that individual got hooked, and in order to feed the addiction they had to start selling for mister rich guy, so then who can they sell the drugs to? At first they sell it cheap so their friends buy it and then after their friends are hooked prices go up and more people need to sell to keep feeding their addiction so then someone new starts selling it to their friends cheap, it becomes a vicious cycle.

Has anyone stopped to think what will they do when they are laid off of work? Where are you going to go to get food? You will be in line at the wealth-fare office too. Stop judging everyone who is on wealth-fare, yes there are people on wealth-fare that shouldn't be on wealth-fare, but it is the nation's fault they are there. We look down our noses at these individuals we call them names, we stereotype them and therefore, after awhile they get pissed off and decide they might as well screw the rest of us, and don't try to get off of wealth-fare. What we should be doing is making wealth-fare benefits a temporary fix to a problem, send them to trade schools and get them a job. The general public is who we need to take care of not the precious few who knew exactly what to do to rise above, we give benefits to certain minorities and not others. We give foreigners visas and grants to come to America to get a better education, yet we can not reach down and help the American next door to get off of wealth-fare, maybe if we stopped giving out grants to the the foreigners and tried harder to help our next door neighbor we wouldn't be so dependent on other countries for needs. We need to stop trying to keep up with the Jones' they died a long time ago. Time to start helping each other and stop stepping on everyone to be an individual on top. Being all alone on top is a very lonely place.

There is so much frustration in the people's comments, I became overwhelmed. There is one comment that hit me, though. Why bailout the auto industry, and God knows who else, when the public can't afford to buy the product? It just means more surplus, and guess what, another bailout?

Well to everyone reading these posts. You all need to understand one thing our government is just that OURS we need to come together as a country as one and make them do the right thing. Us just sitting here saying that we don't like this and we don't like that is wasting all of our time and getting us nowhere. I agree that they need to help the lower class first than work their way up. Hard to build a stable house without a foundation, this is common sense. Starting from the top and working down doesn't work for anything you build.

It's not just the governments fault things are like this but all of our faults for not doing something about it. The only war we should have been involved in was a war against our greedy government that's too worried about protecting corporations and not caring about the people they were supposed to be helping.

But the government prefers us to be devided it makes it easier to control and subjugate US.

It is the duty of the people to keep our government in check we haven't been doing that.

Well I've been reading through most of this posting and have seen a lot of different opinions, some cold, some cruel, unfair, some discrimination involved.

But in my opinion: Who are we to judge other people?

Some people are receiving SSI not because they happily decided to,but because what other choice they had. My father work for 14 years in a auto-shop, every week they use to deduct his SS from his check, after he had an accident lifting a engine at work he applied for his SS and comes out that they never paid his SS even though they were deducting it from his check and now what other choice he has if he cant work. So are we supposed to judge on pple before knowing what they are actually going through.

Now myself. I've been through bad situations most of my life,

1st)I had to drop out of high school when I was 17 to help my father because he couldnt be unattended. I was in 12th grade good grades, I had the second to the highest scores in the CIT's exams taken.

2nd)I found a damn job at a factory paying $7.75/hour from which I had to pay the rent and provide me and my father with food.

3rd)My father got his SSI so they also approved him housing and he moved out. I met my GFriend and then had a daughter with her.

Then I found another job welding paying me $12.50/hour and just when things started looking a little bit brighter boom, the bad economy strikes hard and I loose my job.So I decided to start selling stuff on ebay which went pretty good for me since I was actually making $1500/ week but cant do that for life since ppl are not always going to buy the same stuff over and over so 2 months later I found a job paying $15/hour and today am currently sitting without a job again because also got laid-off.

Now to make a point If the gov't keeps bailing out these companies were are we the pple going to end up at? The companie owners are getting this money and investing it in more useless cars that we can't afford and on top of it they keep coming out with fancy models that are worth more than $40Ks WHO IN THE HELL CAN AFFORD THESE NOW DAYS The gov't is putting us deeper in this economical hole.

THEY SHOULD HELP US THE CONSUMERS SO THAT WE COULD PROVIDE AND GAIN A MORE STABLE ECONOMY

NOT HELP THE PROVIDER SO THEY COULD CONSUME THEIR OWN MONEY WITH NO GAIN AT THE END OF IT.

Wanda  says:

Here's a little something to ponder...Think about ALL-Of-The-Money that has been given to the car companys to bail them out over the past 10 years... Which I might add has been a total waste! They are still in the same boat they have been paddling for years. It's a boat named...Feed The Rich...Which I might add has been being paid with the working man's tax dollar!!! I'm not talking about the hard working men, and women that work in the factory building making cars...many of which have NO-JOB right now...WHY??? Because their Higher-Flying-Company-Management... Has (SQUANDERED) the intended Tax Payers Bail Out Funds given to them by Our Government...Sooooo PONDER THIS! If every dollar in those bail outs was (Divided Equally) and put into the hands of the tax-paying working men, and women. Including the retired men, and women on SSI that have worked, and payed taxes for 40 to 50 years of their lives!!! Even if our Government took 25% of it in taxes to help rebuild our School Budgets, Medicare for the Elderly, Aid to Small Business Owners that are struggling to stay alive etc.. How much do you think each Stimulus Check for the tax-payer would be??? It would be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars per person!!! That's how much!!! Now PONDER THIS? What? Would the average Family do with all that money? You want to see The United States of America End This Economy Crunch, and Land Back On Her Feet? Think of it!!! Banks would have more money put in them than they'd know what to do with, morgages would be paid, car loans would be paid off, and new cars bought, that new roof that has been needed would get put on the house, the farmer would get the new tractor, or silo that has been badly needed, our Military Men, and Women in our Armed Forces would get paid a better wage for the price they pay to secure our safety, and the list would go on, and on, and on!!! Our economy would see the biggest Rise-and-Boom in American History!!! Wall Street Stock Market would climb off of the charts! WHY? Because the true safety, and power of These United States of America has always rested in The Hands of the American People. If we doin't like the way our government is being run! Then get a voice, speak out! Set aside the concerns about the color of ones skin, or religious indifferences! If The American Citizens Pull Together, and Stand United...Then you will see reform, and change..... PONDER IT!!! ...............................PS: I do agree that many people getting Government Assistance do not diserve it...However there are also many who do! I truly feel we need to strictly check out the people asking for assistance. Many who are on the system will stay there all their lives...some by Hook-Or-Crook if they can get away with it. So many people have lost their jobs, and Unemployment Benifits have run out. They are left with no other place to go. Except to ask for assistance. They do deserve the help...I'm talking about the one's who have taken lower paying jobs, and it's still not enough to make ends meet. Those who are beating the streets trying to find a job, and there is no job to be had. A single parent going to school, and working part time but it doesn't pay the rent! As well as those who TRULY have a medical illness that prevents them from being able to work. These people are deserving of assistance...and YES I agree that drug testing is a good idea...anyone with nothing to hide should not feel offended by being tested. After all the test is as much for your benifit as it is for the working man, and where his tax dollar is being spent. The only one who has something to hide, and worry about is the drug abuser... and ... It's called ... No-More-Free-Ride!!! The train stops here when it come's to...Wasting, and Exploiting The American Tax Dollar.... PONDER IT!!!

Teenagers are making pacts to have babies together in high school... young people are dropping out of school and never getting an education... SOME people abuse the system and receive government benefits while making money "under the table" so they can live in the projects and yet eat lobster and drive fancy cars... doctors and laywers help people fake injuries to bilk insurance companies out of thousands... our country goes to war and thousands die or are injured fighting for a country that doesn't even want us there... minimum wage goes up but the cost of living follwos suit so people still can't afford to live... CEOs and retirees of failing corporations receive billions in bonuses for running companies into the ground while the companies beg the government to hand over bailout funds... people kill their entire families and then themselves to avoind feeling ashamed for getting in too much debt... lenders spend years giving credit to people who obviously couldn't repay their loans and got so far in debt themselves that now they don't want to loan money to people with good credit... children disobey their parents and talk back and break laws as if it is nothing and the government puts the parents in jail for it while the unruly child goes free to brag to their friends... OUR CONTRY IS A MESS! An economic stimulus package isn't going to fix it! What we need is to STOP depending on imports STOP letting illegal immigrants take all of our jobs RAISE the minimum wage to the point that the cost of living is reasonable, provide FREE healthcare to EVERYONE through a state programso that people ONLY have to pay for elective procedures and put these abandoned houses and buildings all ovwerthe country to good use by GIVING everyone in America a HOME in exchange for WORK and LOYALTY tot heir country. Punish CHILDREN for their OWN mistakes and let parents DISCIPLINE within reason. REQUIRE children to use something like MIRENA as soon as they hit PUBERTY and REFUSE to remove it until the child has reached a certain age or gotten married AND these furture parents have taken PARENTING CLASSES and gotten a LICENSE to have a child (come on- you need s license to get married, drive a car, own a dog... even to catch a fish but not to be responsible and mature enough to care for another living human being!?!?!)

Think about how every person over the age of 21 in America could have gotten over $200,000.00 as an "economic stimulus" if the government weren't "bailing out" companies that shouldn't have run themselves into the ground if they wanted MONEY and it is STAGGERING... Don;t think we should give the multitudes that kind of money? What if it went instead to paying off any mortgage under $100,000.00 in America and if your mortgage was $75,000 or less you got it paid off AND got a new hybrid vehicle? WOW! What THAT could do for AMERICA!!

While all of you are talking about giving the money to everyone I admit it would be nice if I could receive it ... luckily I have grown up with the belief that if you can't pay cash ... you don't need it ... I have had one credit card in my life and that was when I got married .. when we seperated she maxed it out and left me stuck with over a 10,000 balance .. it has taken me 5 years to get that paid off since I am now a single parent of our three kids. So now I am a single parent working 40+ hours a week with now zero dept .. I have manage to get money put away again for my kids since my twin boys suffer from autism and will most likely never be fully able to manage their own affairs. Before the war my childrens savings was over 40k and thanks to Bush it went down to 17k With the use of wise spending rules (no credit) and bargin shopping I have managed to get it back up to 20k .. but my kids are 9yrs old and I know I won't be able to live forever ... unless things improve the money I am saving for them won't last them more than a couple years ... afterall .. I have less than 9 years before they will be 18 and supposed to be self sustaining adults .... what then .. They will still be looking to me for the continued finincial support they will need ... so if money was given to me in the amounts you are talking about then I would most likely have enough to last them into many years.

Sad part .. most people that got that money would buy Toyota cars and Mitsubitshi TV's .. we all need to remember to try to buy American .. but then again .. most of them do their manufacturing overseas ... We used to be a country of production where most countries paid us for our goods .... now we are a country where most our jobs are "service" related so we make money and then buy forein goods and our money goes overseas .... ... we need to close our borders and let these other countires fend for themselves and say America First .... to hell with forein aid ... wheres our forein aid now that we need it because our economy is going to hell.

Im a working mother of 3 children. My husband has worked at the same job for over five years. We don't make much, and we don't spend much. I have a sever learing disorder in math and have been tring to get my GED for 3 years. I take the test over and over every time i get a little closer. I can get on diabilaty, but refuse to for the fact that i CAN work. We have no car we both walk to work. We get foodstamps. I as a mother and responable adult will do anything to feed my children, if that meens walking into a goverment building and lowring myself to asking for help i will do it in a heartbeat. Me or my husband don't do drugs, tho there are those who clearly abuse both drugs and the help our goverment sets a side for the poor. I don't ask for you pity, infact it would probley piss me off. Just anwser me this. Can any parent out there set by while there child (or any child) goes hungrey beacuse of there pride. If you can then it's your child that needs to be taken away. Do you know what breaks my heart, is the fact that my own countrey men will look down on someone that has hit hard times, or can't get off there high horse to look around see whats really going on. Ya, you pay your taxes, you make good money, you were lucky to make it trew school, you hold your self up higher than the woman that is stumbling drunk down the road with five or six kids at home, but let me tell you somthing, we all get old, or hurt and it's those children that will be running the nursing home you go to. or the banker that handles your cash, or the nurse that handles your pain meds, or the person that fixes your fastfood the list could go on and on.

We're looking for a fast fix to everything and there's not one. We are fighting each other when we need to be coming togeather and tring to stop it from getting worse, and the only way we are going to do that is trew our children. Teach them about other fule alteratives, soler power, growing your own food, the value of a good days work, compasion. If there is people who won't teach there children then it is up to everyone else to show them by living it. Make that child not want to be like his/her parents. Make that child want to be better, hell america was built on that consept. Sometimes hard work has nothing to do with mannual labor, but helping some one else out when you your self don't have much, or taking it upon your self to make sure the old woman down the street has food even tho she has family of her own, or that a child has a coat for winter. We can bitch about who gets what, or who isnt doing there part, but in the end you just as bad maybe worse if you set by doing nothing. To those out there doing your part to help us get out of the mess we're in tho i might not agree or understand what it is you do i'm proud to call you an fellow American reather you be a teacher, policeman, banker, car dealer, single parents, or just another hard working married woman like me. To the others, things have away of coming back at you, who knows maybe you'll be the next person i see in the unemployment line or paying for food with the help of the goverment.

Giving money to either companies or to individuals is not the answer. I would love to get a check but if the government gave everyone money. Then money would lose its value. What would be the point if the gave you a million dollars and then it wouldnt be worth 10 cents. Problem is the more money that is circulating is related to the cost of everything. So I think a good solution would be to find a way to make money worth more. This way everyone would still have or be making the same amount of money. But be able to do more with it. I always hear everyone talking about how the prices of everything just keep going up. But it is not necessary the prices, it is just money losing value. So it takes more to buy the same things.

if all of you would listen to each other you would discover why "we the people" stay in a rut. We cannot agre between one or two people on situations let alone make a diference. To truly make a diference we are going to have to come together as one and begin to bring back the true voice of the people!!!!!!! Stop complaining about each other and grab hold of ourselves and stand up, not shout at each other, stand up and make a change. "We the people" are supposed to control, not allow someone else to make decissions that just makes things worse. Stand together united and march in to battle, not with Iraq or some other country. The real battle is here in our country, with our government, we should stand up to them, not as minorty, but as th majority, then we may see some changes in this world. we cant expect someone else to save us, we must save ourselves.

i'm on SSD and SSI, and to be honest all this finger pointing is stupid. Let me give you an example, I have about 6 pounds of titanium and surgical steel wrapped around my spine. I was, before my surgery, a chef/offset printer. i enjoyed both occupations, but there is no way i can do either, or much else for that matter. Because my surgery took so long to be done (i wasn't going to have 78 staples going down my back without a few second opinions) i was unable to get the full amount of disablility based on my work history (and that was after 2 years of fighting because S.S. has a unspoken rule, they wait to see if the applicant will go back to work after being delayed, and i got that from a social worker at SSD) so i make less than a grand a month, from that i pay rent and with food stamps i get by, barely. For what it's worth when i die anything i own will be sold to pay back what i recieved in benefits (bet you didn't know about that did you? it applies to everyone who recieves SSI/foodstamps) on the other hand i personally know a woman who is on welfare (full benefits) and owns rental property through her boy friend (she put it in his name so it wouldn't come up in her name) and she does real well. Every time i say anything i'm told that unless it's in her name there isn't anything that can be done. Let's look and medical benefits, there was a person who was blind, medicaid bought her a 8k machine, she wanted to get a 2-3 hundred dollar lap top with dragon naturally speaking (portable, easy to use and upgradeable) medicaid denied her, reason: they were afraid she might use it for something besides making text understandable!?! i couldn't believe it. so 7700 bucks was worth her checking her email or something???? unbelievable. About the drug issue, i use morphine, originally they wanted to put in a pump (in my hip) i refused, they are notorious for infenfections and i don't more problems. so i take the pill, aks oxycotin. i also use a pill management system, what is that, well, i take them like usuall for four or five days then go off a day or two (means i bed ridden but not addicted) rinse and repeat. Things are not always the way you think they are and until you know all the facts no one really has the right to point and make a judement call.
