2012 & Planet X: End of the world as we know it?
79
We’ve had our fair share of “end of the world” prophecies and predictions over the years, but the 2012 demise of planet earth is definitely one of the most popular predictions by doomsayers. The reason for its popularity is largely down to the fact that it is backed by two theories which both predict the same 2012 doomsday.
The first part of the 2010 doomsday theory is based on “Planet X”, also known as Nibiru. Planet X is a hypothetical planet which is part of our own solar system. Its orbit is beyond that of Neptune and it is apparently visible every 2000 years during its orbital pass of earth. According to the people of ancient Sumar, Nibiru causes catastrophic effects during every second orbit. The next orbital pass is expected to take place in 2012, hence the doomsday prediction.
Those who believe the Planet X doomsday theory believe that we are already experiencing the effects of Planet X’s path towards us through effects such as global warming, increased seismic activity and devastating hurricanes. It is thought that these will continue to worsen between now and 2012.
So how did this 2012 theory come about? It was reported in the Washington Post back in the 80s that NASA had actually sighted Planet X. As it turns out, all NASA had sighted were several unexplained bright sources. After taking deeper pictures, it was discovered that some of these were in fact dense gas clouds while others were distant galaxies. Not Planet X. Although conspiracy theorists believe that NASA is simply “covering up” the situation.
Going back to the doomsday theory, you can add to it the fact that the Mayan Calendar comes to an end on 21st December 2012 and you have yourself a fairly convincing doomsday prediction! Many believers in the Mayan 2012 doomsday prediction believe that the end of the world will come in the form of a meteor or asteroid that will have crossed our paths before – which ties in nicely with the Planet X theory. However, critics of this theory point out that when this Mayan calendar comes to an end, it will simply do the same as all other calendars which end – it will start again. Some mythologists actually believe that the end of the Mayan calendar will signify an age of enlightenment – not the end of the world.
The Mayans are not the only civilisation to have a link with this 2012 Planet X theory though – other prophecies have references which sound like they could be related. For example, the Hopi Prophecy refers to the doomsday appearance of a “blue star”, which could perhaps be Planet X??
But let’s be honest – this isn’t the first planet-themed doomsday prediction – or any-themed doomsday prediction, come to that. Most recently, there was a prediction that the alignment of the planets would cause the end of the world in May 2003. As you are aware, the world has not come to an end! We’ve also had predictions of the rise of the Antichrist in 1999 - can’t say I noticed that one either! I say “live for today” and let’s not worry too much about potential doomsdays that we wouldn’t have any power to avoid anyway!
The 5-part video series below explains more about the theory and history of the 2012 Planet X prediction.

i agree with bob.
i believe that the end is not always about destruction but change.
Ditto loveofnight comment; I watched all the videos from you tube. I was a little bit convinced. I've had the feeling for a long time that there's a big change right around the corner. What it will mean to me, or to most people, I don't know. But I think in the end it's a good thing. ( In the VERY long run) Thank you for a very interesting, informative and comprehensive hub on this topic.
