23andme is a personal DNA test which you self administer at home by spitting in a tube. You then post it off to them and they use their patented sampling technology to create your profile. In the UK you can use Parcelforce Royal Mail to post it.  Opran is one of the Famous people on twitter

What are the benefits?

They provide you a basic personally profile including some strange elements such as Earwax Type and Eye colour. Personally I am not sure why I would want to know my ear wax type.

Ancestry

You can you your genetic profile to checkout your ancestry and potentially find out if people are related to you and where you have come from. One of the cool features is that they have a map of the world and the discernment of the genetic population to show where your ancestors came from. The Mormons will love this.

Paternity testing

You could obviously use this for parental DNA testing.

Health

Health testing and preventative health / life style choices would seem to me to be the best reason for using this service. I would want to know if I was susceptible to diabetes, wouldn’t you?
