Start Getting Better Gas Mileage, Today.

1. Drive the Speed Limit!

When you keep your car at 75mph, you're actually burning 20% more fuel than you are when you're driving 60mph! It's actually worse if you're driving something like an SUV that isn't very aerodynamic. I know, its an easy habit to get into, to drive five or ten miles per hour over the speed limit, but its a costly habit. Is that few minutes you save really worth the extra 1/5th amount of gas you use getting there?

Not everyone thinks of this, but the way you drive affects your fuel economy and the life of your car more than just about anything else. So ease up on that led food and that increase gas mileage as a reward.

2. Check Your Tires

Did you know that due to seasonal fluctuations in temprature that its normal for tires to lose about one to two psi (pounds per square inch) every month? One psi under is equal to a loss of about 0.4 mpg. That may sound like much, but think about it this way. If you had a credit card that would save you 1% on gasoline, you'd use it right? If your tires are two psi below their rating and you add air, its like getting 1% off your gasoline. This will help your fuel economy, and save on tires too!

3. Get a Tune-Up

Guess what? Old spark plugs hurt your fuel economy. An old dirty air filter hurts your fuel economy. The fuel filter, breather element, and PCV valve should also be changed during a tune-up. In the long run, you'll spend less on fuel, less than what you spent on the tune-up, and prolong the life of your car, which is a money saver in itself. Then again, improper maintenance of your car could have you walking in the long run, which may be the biggest fuel saver of all!

All great points! Checking the tires is certainly very important, I check mine everyday before I go to work. Thank you for sharing these tips.
