Women have some unique health problems like those related to menopause and pregnancy. They are also more susceptible to diseases or conditions like obesity, depression and arthritis. 3 most serious diseases those are intimidating modern day women are:

  • Breast cancer: Ductal carcinoma is the most common type of breast cancer that begins in the cells of the duct. In lobular carcinoma the cancer begins in the lobes and this type is more often found in both breasts. Symptoms include swelling or lump in the breast Pain in nipple, Nipple discharge, swelling in armpit or unusual breast pain and discomfort. Risk factors that determine who are more prone to breast cancer are older age, never having given birth, taking hormones such as progesterone and estrogen, early onset of menstruation (before 12) or late menopause (after 55) and obesity. The available treatments are, chemotherapy medicines, radiation therapy, lumpectomy surgery to remove the breast lump, mastectomy surgery to remove all or part of the breast, Hormonal therapy to stop growth of cancer cells
  • Osteoporosis: Osteoporosis is abnormal loss of bone tissue that make the bone fragile. It is most common among postmenopausal women. There are various causes of osteoporosis among women like overweight, premature menopause, irregular menstrual cycle, lack of exercise and calcium intake, smoking and certain medication. Symptoms include chronic lower back pain, muscle spasm, curving spine and pain in joints. Available treatments are exercising regularly and having calcium rich diet.
  • Fibroids: Fibroids are growth of muscle and other tissues in the uterus. Fibroids can be large as a melon or small as a pea. The average age of occurrence is from 35 to 50. Risk factors include obesity, birth control pills, family history, and consumption of red meat like beef or ham. Symptoms are heavy and painful periods, pressure on other organs like bladder, bowel leading to problems like urination and constipation; pain in pelvis and spotting blood from vagina before period. Treatments available are hormone therapy and surgery to remove the fibroid or removing the uterus. Controlling weight, regular exercise and regular health check ups can keep fibroids at check.
