If you want to get more SEO results and more relevant Google search engine indexings, you need to look extremely relevant to the search engine spiders that crawl every single page of your website. Learning a bit about Latent Semantic Indexing will help you.

LSI is the acronym used for the term that essentially means that when Google, Yahoo, MSN, Altavista, AOL, and other search engines crawl through their site, they’re looking at more than just your main keywords. Beyond the high density words they read, they’ll look at what other words exist on the page as well. As the search engine spider analyses every word on your page, it paints a picture in terms of how closely related your site seems to be to the subject matter you’re trying to rank for. The more laterally related keywords you use, the more relevant you appear to be. Here are three ways you can improve your LSI rankings:

  1. Use the Google Tilde operator. This is a great tool that can help you find out which other keywords Google relates as relevant to your main targeted key phrase
  2. Proofread your content as if you’re the search engine. Look at everything on the page individually to see if it meets SEO rules in terms of all the relevant fields being populated and in terms of using a good deal of laterally related words in the text (without being too keyword dense for the length of the page)
  3. Add plenty of links to your page. Link a primary keyword to another internal webpage about that topic, link a secondary keyword to an authority site (such as a .gov or .edu, or even to Wikipedia)

Learning about SEO takes time and effort but with each new nugget of knowledge you assimilate, it’s going to equate to small victories for your website. Once you begin to devote a bit of time on a regular basis to improving your search engine rankings through on page and off page SEO efforts, you’ll quickly find that your traffic increases and your conversion rate (from browsers to buyers) improves as well.

Hi there. Found your hub while looking for SEO tips. I work in online marketing and I'm always on the hawkeye for new ideas. Though your explanation of LIS is clear, one might get the impression that it's another kind of keyword stuffing, although not the same keywords stuffed, but those closely related to it. This is probably why other search engines maybe into creating better algorhythms.
