30 under 30 Workout # 1
67In the beginning...
So I start my morning off with a cup o' Joe and some heavy cream. Normally, we'd have a little Agave nectar to go with that, but I'm looking to reduce the sugar. I do miss me some Agave nectar. The best tasting low glycimic sweetener ever.
What am I up to? All 100 and 1 Kettelbell Workouts for David Whitley's eBook available over at irontamer.com and blogging the whole thing out. Were into part 2. 30 Kettlebell Workouts in Under 30 minutes. I'm using this as an opportunity to drop some fat.
I had to be at work early so I decided to hit the gym after work. Big mistake. Don't get me wrong the gym has it's time and place. That being said, Turkish Get Ups and a crowded gym on a Monday night don't mix well at all. In fact, it just plain sucks. But more on that later...
At 10am I had 2 scoops of MetRx Protein Plus with 16 oz. of water and another one at 2 pm. In between that I had an apple and after the second shake I had a handful of almonds.
Here's the nutritional content so far:
2 MetRx Shakes = 3 grams of fat, 14 grams of carbs and 92 grams of protein. The apple's got no fat or protein but 25 grams of carbs. The almonds came in at 15 fat, 5 carbs and 7 protein. Totaled up, 18 grams of fat, 44 carbs and 99 protein before dinner and the gym.
Now for the gym and the workout out. My gym is overcrowded and I figured that with Monday Night Football and all it should be slow. WRONG! It was Slammed. Oh where oh where can a poor guy get dirty on the floor and do some get ups with out hurting himself of anyone around him? I think the spot I need is right next to "fricken no where!" Ugh! I miss Daylight Savings Time and the park right now. Should have gotten up earlier! Oh well! Make do... or is it d-e-w? What-Ever! Did I mention the flooring sucks and is not conducive to Turkish Get Ups? Complain, Complain, Complain...
The Warm up consisted of Face the Wall Squats, Downward Dogs and Halos 3 sets of 10 in a circuit. Classic "Enter the Kettlebell" warm up! For the actual workout itself, I set my trusty Gymboss timer to count down 30 minutes and got to work.
On the menu was 2 sets of 5 Turkish Get Ups and 5 sets of 10 snatches. That's per side. I figure I gotta do this in under 30 minutes or I'm not living up to the point of the whole "30 under 30" thing. Obvious? I agree. ( Need to catch up? CLICK HERE. ) That being said, a properly executed Turkish Get Up should take at least one minute regardless of how heavy the Kettlebell is. I have 20 Get Ups to do. That's 20 minutes. Then I got 50 snatches to get done in 9 minutes. Needless to say I brought my 16kg bell to the gym. My goal is to finish stronger, finish in 30 minutes, and not hurt myself or others.
I decide to go straight through with the Get Ups alternating each side and at 5 and 5 go grab a swig of water and call that a break. In between pausing for stragglers and squatters and dodging one guy who "whoa I didn't see you there brah..." I completed the Get Ups on time.
Now on to the snatches. I quickly commandeer a spot in a corner so I can see who's comin' from all sides. I figure if it worked for Wild Bill while he played poker, it'll work for me while I snatch... And away we go. I kept the rest to mere 30 seconds between sets and finish the snatches in just under 6 minutes and totaling 26 minutes of Kettlebelling in the gym.
I stretched out and headed out.
So yes, the gym is difficult to move around in but it is possible to knock out a workout in under 30 minutes. Even at the gym. It does help when you bring your own weight though!
Dinner: Chicken stir fry with veggies ( Broccoli, carrots, cabbage, bok choy & snow peas) 52 grams protein, 17 carbs and 6 grams of the fat.
Another protein shake before bed and we total the day with:
197 gram of protein, 68 carbs, and 26 fat. Not a bad start if I do say so myself. Looking forward to tomorrow!
