Writing a book is easy. Getting it off the ground or a publisher to take notice, you have to give them a reason to call you back. One of the best techniques to use is to give the whole of the publication without revealing the plot. A great book is three-dimensional (3 D); a yarn of sub-plots weaves together your overall plot.

The inbox is flooded. The brain is stressed.

If I’m an editor and have to sit at a desk all day going through tons and tons of unsatisfying mail, I’m going to do what any normal human being would do. I’m going to start reading the short stack first. It’s a lot easier on the brain. So, the best thing to do is keep it short, don’t run out all happy and full of joy-joy just because you have a great manuscript to show to the world. The inbox is flooded. The brain is stressed.

Ability without honor is useless. Marcus Tullius Cicero

A good author today has to be more then just a great author, especially if you are self-publishing. The market in flooded with self-publishers. You’re in with a lot of little fish trying to make it a big pond. That’s why you have to have a plan; some kind of system set up that you know is going to get you maximum profit. I mean, that’s why you in the game, right?

3 D’s

The First D is writing the book. If you’re going to do it, do it right. Just because you already have it wrote in your head, paper has a way of re-routing the plot. Sometimes you never know were you’re going to end up. That’s when you have to get the Press releases recalled because all of a sudden it’s all starting to come to light; you want to run in another direction. It finally just hit you like a bolt of thunder. I, myself, always end up changing the title to highlight my story.

The Second D is targeting your consumer. When writing, always keep in mine, until your are established and selling a million books, try not to make it a personal platform, learn the rules, keep the platform public, and forge your way into glory. The internet has a free reign of free postings and advertisings. With public platforms like MySpace it’s easy to set up a base to promote your work. There are a million and one ways to promote. Surf and find the right markets for your publication. Post and network at least one to two hours a day. Do your homework and research publishing companies, book distributors, and or anyone you think will benefit you the most. Don’t wait for someone to hopefully pick up your book and make you famous. If you believe in your work, and what you write, it’s not a hard sale.

The Third D is the overall plot, because if you’ve gotten to this stage, you’re already in. Someone has taken the bait, and your career is off and running. All it took was that one little spark of intrigue and your constant drive, all because you decided to go fishing, all because you already had the work done and knew what you had to promote. That makes it a lot easier. So when you sit down to write your book, with the 3 D rules in effect, on paper you’re creating a three-dimensional world that you know can be delivered beyond just the hype. It all starts with a mind-blowing summary, something that the editor can bite into and run with, something they can take to the big boys and know that this is the one, because in just a few words you put out a great premise that’s alive and real right before their very eyes. This in effect is also true to self-publishing. When promoting you have to be all over the place, networking, setting up Blogs, or whatever you do to get your name in lights. A good premise over the internet always accommodates a media vision, a stimulating picture that is attractive and eye catching. The better the show, the more people will attend. Stay out of the pitfall of reading and buying links that promise prosperity for cash programs. If you really want to be your own Boss, put the footwork in, learn your craft and hang the shortcuts up. Believe in your words and what you write with the will, determination, and the heart of a champ. It’s not hard in today’s world of technology. Everything is right at your fingertips. From now on when you sit behind your desk and look at your keyboard, think of it at your pass to glory, your own personal salvation, a sweet breath of serenity, your world where you can live and create lots of money.

Study the market you want to cater to, learn new programs, learn new skills, and expand your knowledge and knowledge base. Find and explore the avenues that are right for you. Check it out for a week or two, and if it’s not profitable, move on to the next easy network target.

To Blessed To Be Stressed:

The true-life story of Tony Funk

A child abandoned in the streets to find his way into The United States Penitentiary at the age of twenty-one, Tony Funk had come a long way. He was labeled a career criminal, a man beyond reform, and condemned for the rest of his life. Twenty years of going in and out of the system had worn his skills thin. It was time to pack up and get out of the game while he still had his health, plus a little money in his pocket to keep a smile on his handsomely devilish face for a long time. After all, he wasn’t getting any younger. However, who would believe a man with so much vengeance would just walk into a police station and turn his self in, just to get revenge for short cash and his girlfriend turned into a two-bit hooker.

Things had come back to bite me in the rear. The Feds set wanting in the corner until one early wee hour of the morning U.S. Marshalls got the Ok to take me down. For two and a half years, I was confined by the U.S. Parole Commission, fighting every day of it, all the way up to The Supreme Court. However, before the case was over, I was kicked back out to the streets. I had made up my mind. They were all going to pay, and this time I wasn’t playing.
