But Not Everything Has To Make And Impact

Not everything has to make an impact on our lives.

Sometimes people will. Movies can. I know that music does often times make a difference to me.

But books. But books are an incredible resource for inner reflection, alteration, growth and realization. They are the guide to the past, to lands far away in time, space, imagination, as well as sources of insight into where we might go, what directions to take.

This hub is a start to my recording how 4 books in particular I have all discovered this year are chaning my attitudes for the better.

They each are playing a different role in my life, and I plan to explain that in detail as I flesh out this Hub.

Welcome to my new life

The Core that is helping me adjust to living vice existing

4 Books that are changing my life right now, in the here and now

Of course there are more than just 4 books. But within the last calendar year Ihave read 4 books (A Few More in reality) that are

I just finished reading Tribes not so long ago. The end chapters were so relevant to personal relationships, as it discussed managers and how they seek to maintain the status quo. It really reminded me of how people associate, how people talk to one another, office politics.

I finished the bookThe 4 Hour Work Week not too long ago. It is helping me re-work how I approach work.I am structuring my singletasking better, how I approach email, how I am looking into different income ideas and streams.

Community is making me realize that our world, our lives, our way of looking at things cannot work. They cannot continue on this way anylonger.

Vagabonding, this is the life I wish to lead. This is the life I wish to embrace.

Below is part of my personal philosophy that is still pertinent in light of my recent readings.

We are all moved with ancient impulse. Those items inside ourselves called instincts. The underlying forces that we can only feel, or experience in retrospect while they possess or consume our actions. They mold, mend, drive and determine so much about us. Yes things can be controlled with our hearts and minds. There are times when we can overcome the reactions. Mostly though, we are creatures of our habits, our mindset, and it is will terrible effort that we can override the reactions.

So many, it seems, believe that if you just want it bad enough, that if you want to change then you will just be able to. To the layperson I feel this is a myth. As much of a myth as government is good or that war is necessary in any circumstance in the modern world. Instead I think that it is a great deal more I firmly believe all those self help, psychologist, psychiatrists, counselors, etc that just say you could do it if you wanted to, either didn't have real issues in their life, or had a lot of help and just passed it off. I cannot reconcile what I observe with what they say a person "should" be able to do in those circumstances.

Additions:

The Dip by Seth Godin is now influencing how I approach all tasks. Viewing it in light of a Dip, A Cliff, a Cul De Sac. All endeavors are viewed that way.I did get it for myself out of my Christmas 2008 gift money so I can refer to it in all new endeavors in my life.

Skim read most of The Creative Licence by Danny Gregory, his site is http://www.dannygregory.com/ tonight sitting in the bookstore. I wanted to get it, will another time after the next paycheck likely. Once I had read most of it I was the most at peace I have been in many years. I heartily recommend it.

UPDATE:

The 4 Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris has an updated version out in the first weeks in December 2009. With over 100 new pages.

The great brands of our time are not about what they are. They are about what they represent. Apple, Sarah Palin, Harley Davidson, Tom's Shoes... In each case, the reality of the product means far...

Glad to see Rolf Potts' book Vagabonding made the list - I totally agree!  I managed to get away from corporate life in 2005 to start vagabonding and never went back! :)  If you're still interested, I've got some stuff on my blog http://www.vagabondinglife.com.  Cheers!
