The SASS refers to The Single Action Shooting Society. In short, this group involves itself in trying to maintain the popularity of the Cowboy Action Shooting so that the old Wild West shooting tradition does not die out or become forgotten in any way.
1) SAAS and What It Does
Matches are hosted regularly across different western areas and states of the country. This being one of the functions, there are however, several more. The World Championship matches are also taken care of by SASS. The members of the society upon following certain rules have their rights taken care of and protected in accordance to the ones in the 2nd Amendment.
2) Costumes and Characters
What each member is asked to do is to emulate a character or a certain profession that was all the rage in the heady days of the wild, wild west. No two characters should be alike. The costumes are designed with this in mind, and the fact that individual differences and styles are and their maintenance is of the utmost concern. In fact, costume designing often turns out to be more popular among members than the sports!
One shot revolvers, pistol caliber levers, action rifles and others are some of the weapons used in the game, and the game process is authentic and exactly the way it was in the old days of the wild west. Honor and glory are the two major incentives behind the fight.
3) Codes and Rules
Since the sport adheres to the old days and the rules and terms followed then, it is expected that the members and the players maintain this spirit of sportsmanship. This requires them to be sporting and do what the game wants them to. There should be no excuses in this regard; none whatsoever are to be tolerated. The costumes go a long way in adding an authentic feel to the game and keeping the essence of the game still burning brightly, even after so many years.
4) SASS Horse Riding and Shooting
The Single Action Shooting Society games are extremely popular and involve horses and horse riding. This makes it extremely exciting and fun. The horse weighs around 1200 pounds and the player is expected to ride one with shots from six guns. The field he is supposed to race across has tracks of fire blazing on them.
