Celebrating Anniversaries - NASA, Beatles and me!

Feb 4th, 2008 - Nasa will transmit Beatles Song - Across the Universe to the star Polaris - the North Star, 431 light years away to celebrate the 50th anniversary of NASA and 40th Anniversary of the song - Across the Universe. This day also celebrated as the Inception of Beatles 50 years ago. The first US satellite Explorer 1 was launched 50 years ago on 4th feb. This day also marks the 45th Birthday of Deep Space Network, an international network of Antennas that supports the missions to explore the universe. All these coincidences between NASA and Beatles makes me think that folks at NASA must be big fans of Beatles and/or visa versa :)

The song will travel the cosmic space at the speed of light 186,000 miles per second and will reach North star in 2439 AD. The song will travel 2.5 quadrillion miles away (A quadrillion is one thousand million million only, so the number is 2,500,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 miles away ).

The event can be tracked at the website www.acrosstheuniverseday.com

Here are the lyrics of the song - Across the Universe in celebration of 4th of Feb.

I was wondering on my marriage anniversary (coincidentally 4th of Feb ) about the other events that happened on this day and I came to discover these notable few. It brings a wide smile across the face of my wife when I narrate these events to her.

I am extremely humbled by the achievements of Beatles and NASA and in no way consider myself in the league of those Titans. All the same I am proud of the 3 year roller coaster ride I have been in. :)

Nice! The aliens that live in that solar system will hear Across The Universe in the year 2439.
