I'm at it again with another one of my 'best free online games' hubs. I like making these pages because it means that I can spend a whole afternoon playing games online without feeling like I am completely wasting time with which I should be doing something useful. Today I have spent my afternoon playing puzzle games of many different varieties, and I have then picked out what I think arehe 5 best games that I have found, and written a brief description for each one.

All of the games that I have featured here are free online flash games which do not require you to download any software or sign up for a membership account; just follow the link at the bottom of each description to start playing immediately. You will also find on this page links to various other hubs which I have created featuring the best free games that I have found in other categories.

Lost in the City

The idea of this game is that you have been drugged by a person who you went out on a date with, and then abadoned in a strange room in a strange city. You have to complete various tasks to find your way home. It starts off a simple 'hidden object' game where you have to spot various camoflaged and concealed objects in a room to complete your task for that room - such as finding a note, or keys, or the numbers to open a lock. Then as you go on extra puzzle elements are thrown in and it gets harder. It's a professionally put together game with an interesting story and nice graphics.

Unravel

Here is a classic example of a really simple concept which leads to some exceedingly complex puzzles. On the screen you will see a series of blue dots in various positions and connected to each other in various ways with a line of 'string'. At the beginning these lines of string are all crossing each other, meaning that they are tangled up. By dragging the blue dots around the screen with your mouse your job is to 'unravel' the pieces of string so that none of them are crossing over other pieces of string. Sounds simple? It really isn't.

Web Soduko

I'm a big fan of soduko. I always do it in the newspaper when I buy one. Web Soduko allows you to choose between playing an easy, medium, hard or evil puzzle. In case you don't know what soduko is (what rock have you been hiding under?) here is a brief explanation: you start off with a 9 by 9 grid, divided into 9 smaller grids each containing 9 boxes. In each row, column and 3 by 3 grid you must include all of the numbers from one to 9. A few of the numbers are already filled in at the start, and you have to work out the correct place for the others. Every puzzle can be worked out logical, but some are harder han others.

The Stupid Test 4

The stupid test is a funny little quiz featuring nutty questions on silly subjects where you get to find out whether you are a genius, and anti-genius or somewhere in the middle. There are some pretty clever and amusing trick questions in there, as well as some other tasks to test your memory, your ability to read upside down writing and other entirely random things. It only takes a few minutes to go through the whole quiz, and it is well worth such a short amount of time.

Through Walls

This puzzle is basically a test of your spatial awareness. You are presented with 3D blocks of varying shapes travelling across the screen towards a wall with a hole in it that the block can only pass through in the correct orientation. You must then use the wasd keys to spin your block around to the correct position to pass through the hole before it reaches the wall. I warn you though, it can sometimes be quite infuriating when you can't do it.
