5 Easy Tips On Making Money On Hubpages
59Tip 1: Pick A Popular Topic
Lets face it, if no one is interested in reading about the topic in which you choose to write about, then you will receive little or no traffic, no matter how well written your hub is. My first piece of advice is to do your research, and pick a topic that is actually being searched for by a relatively large group of people.
This could be a review hub concerning a popular book or recently released movie, or it could be centered on one of the most popular topics across the entire Internet, how to make money online. I prefer the later, or at least something similar, because unlike popular books or movies, tips on how to make money online will continue to be popular far into the future.
While the popularity of the your topic is important, it is not the sole determining factor when it comes to whether or not you make a decent amount of money from your hub. Picking a topic that interest you is just as important, if not more so than the popularity of the topic because the quality of your hub hinges on just this.
Tip 2: Pick a Topic Your Interested In
Your level of interest in a topic will undoubtedly show through in the quality of your writing. While choosing a topic to write about, ask yourself if the topic is something that at least remotely interest you.
Will you be able to write a 750 word hub concerning this topic?
Will your writing be full of enthusiasm and cheer from start to finish, or will your lack of enthusiasm begin to show through in your writing as you near the end of your hub?
And if your hub turns out to be a success, will you feel like writing follow up hubs concerning the topic?
Once you have picked a topic that is popular enough to attract a reasonably large number of people, and you have determined that you have enough interest in the topic to write passionately about it, then you need to start thinking about possible traffic sources.
Hubpages does a great job of attracting traffic to your hubs, but if you want to maximize the profit potential of your hub, you need to start thinking about additional sources of traffic, namely Google.
Tip 3: Search Engine Optimization
A lot people get scared when they hear the term, Search Engine Optimization, but honestly they shouldn't. While I do not claim to be an expert in SEO, I have read plenty of books and blogs on the subject over the past few years, and I have even successfully used it to place number 1 on Google for the term "healing scabs on face." See: http://healingscabsonface.blogspot.com
In its most basic form, SEO is just choosing a particular word or phrase, and building your hub around it. To explain the process I will use the example, "money."
If you wanted to build a hub that was keyword optimized for the term money--good luck--because the search term "money" returns an astounding 1,350,000,000 results. Because of the enormous amount of competition for the term "money," you have literally no chance of ranking on the first page of Google for this term. But, if you wanted to target "easy money for teens" (1.8 million results) you may have a fighting chance of getting on the first page of Google.
To gather ideas on which keywords you might target, I recommend using Seo book's free keyword suggestion tool. It is very simple to use this tool. Just follow the hyperlink I have included and you will land on their keyword suggestion tool page. In the text box enter a broad search term, such as money, and click the submit button. (Hint: If you hit enter it will not work.)
Once you click submit, you will see a list of about 100 long-tail keywords that are related to your original broad term. From the list you can learn how many searches are done each day for each term. For the example term, money, several good keywords were returned, including the example I used earlier, "easy money for teens."
Here is a very basic explanation of how to target a keyword with you hub:
Include the keyword in your title.
Include the keyword within your text, but not obsessively, just use it as you normally would.
Keyword density describes the number of times the keyword appears within your hub in relation to the amount of text. A normal keyword density is around 7%, if you would like, you can check your hubs keyword density for free at Seo Book's Free Keyword Density Analyzer Tool.
My last piece of advice, if this doesnt work for you, buy a laundromat franchise. ;-)
Tip 4: Get Backlinks
Backlinks are links that point toward your hub from other hubs, blogs, websites, social networking sites, or forums. Google will asses the importance of you hub based partly on the number and quality of incoming links it has. While it is not as important for hubbers to worry about backlinks, because of the pull that "hubpages" has with Google, it could give you just the edge you need to make it onto page one of Google. The easiest way to get backlinks for your hubs is to submit them to places such as digg, technorati, and stumbleupon, if done manually this can take more time than it is worth. Fortunatly, there are free submission services that will submit your hub to the top 25 social networking sites--with one click.
My personal favorite is Onlywire. You do have to set up each of the 25 accounts manually, but only one time, after that you just click one time, and your hub is automatically submitted to the top 25 social networking sites.
Tip 5: Carve Out Your Niche
The key to success, in anything, is to do something that you enjoy. Do that, and your enthusiasm and energy will flow into your work and show itself in the form of outstanding writing. Once you have selected a topic that you enjoy writing about, stick with it. The more you learn about the topic, and the more you write about it, the more it will show through in your work. Eventually, you will in fact become an "expert" within your field. If you are in a situation where you need a loan fast this may not work for you, but if you have time it just might work.

I have been using it for a while now, but not long enough to really tell how much of an impact it has on overall ranking. Basically, I like it because it instantly gives you 25 backlinks for your hub, blog, or web page. I would say if you got an extra hour sometime it is probably worth your time to set it up.
Thanks for you honest answer. An hour of time isn't a bad investment, so I think that I will probably try the Onlywire.
Thanks, again.
I know others who rave about onlywire - I should get my act together and sign up for it!

This is great information, thanks.
Is it really worth the time and effort to set up the 25 accounts to use Onlywire? I'd never heard of it, so I'm wondering if you notice any appreciable difference in traffic from using it.
