Whether you’re a new author to Hupages, or you’re a longtime veteran that has been hubbing for years, you could be among the many Hubbers who are losing money daily!

Anyone who writes on the Hubpages.com website has probably already discovered what a friendly and inviting atmosphere it has to offer. Hubbers of all levels and walks of life can be found networking among one another. From my own personal experiences, I can say that I’ve seen very little (if any) animosity and pretentiousness. It’s a great place for writers to find encouragement, hone their writing skills, and meet a variety of like-minded people. They all provide material and resources on a number of topics. They also share special interest knowledge, as well as exchange tips about the online writing industry.

Who Are The Hubbers?

Because Hubbers come from all walks of life, not every author who writes for Hubpages has making money as their objective. Using money-making tips may not be important to them. Many hub writers are completely happy sharing information on their favorite topics and receiving nothing more than the joy they experience from writing and being published. So many talented writers started out as nothing but journal writers, scribbling their daily ramblings on a legal pad.  It's a joy to reach even your personal writing best.  Going from daily journal writer, to a regular blogger, and ultimately, a paid writer is a big achievement!  The warm welcome and wonderful feedback offered herei s just one more reason to love Hubpages. This may account for the reason that so many Hubbers are actually missing out on the residual income they could be earning.  They don't bother about getting paid for referrals, even though they love sharing the news about Hubpages! They could be earning cash for what they love and already do!

Is Your Hub Money Going Out The Window?

Interestingly enough, even those writers who use Hubpages as a means to make money are letting their residual earnings fly out the window! They are no doubt, already familiar with the money that can be generated by earning with Google AdSense , Amazon, Ebay, and Kontera ads. All the great articles that Hubbers write provide an interesting and effective enticement to the ads that are displayed with the writing.

Like many other places on the internet, Hubpages allows writers to make money with earnings from page impressions, as well as page clicks. This means, they receive a certain amount from “x” amount of page views, and a certain amount when visitors actually click on an ad. Of course, the crème del la crème is when a viewer makes a purchase, as a result of clicking one of the ads. That’s when the Hubber really gets paid! It is important to keep in mind:

Once ads begin to run on your hubpage, they are continually displayed. During the time the ads are displayed, 60% of the time is allocated to the Hubber, and any revenue generated during that time is 100% the writer’s.

During the other 40% of the time that the ads are displayed, the profits go to Hubpages.

Even when sharing profits with Hubpages (as is only fair to do), the hub writer can begin to generate a nice little tidy bit of change. As the hubs increase and the writer grows in his or her knowledge of how things work, more and more money begins to trickle in. Smart Hubbers are the ones who have the skills and patience to write interesting and resourceful hubs, and stick around to reap the benefits.

But what are some ways to maximize the earnings that can be made with hubpages? Just what are the 5 money-making tips that even the marketing focused Hubbers are overlooking.

2) BENEFITS OF THE AFFILIATE PROGRAM

Hubpages has an Affiliate Program that rewards Hubbers for referring new writers. When new writers begin to generate income from Google Ad Sense, Amazon, Ebay, and Kontera ads, the Hubber that referred the new writer is entitled to 10% of the earnings.

(This amount comes off HubPages 40 %, not the Hubbers 60%.) Your affiliate program referral url can be found by following the same procedure you use to get more details on the URL TRACKER. Simply go to your Account page and click on URL TRACKER. The link that you find directly under the “Tracking Token” is your Affiliate Referral Link. When referring new writers to Hubpages to sign up, simply copy the url in the “Example” below, but replace the tracking code in black (located between the information in red) with your own URL TRACKER code.

For Example: http://hubpages.com/_1ovv9yu4jm4gp/user/new/

COPY THIS AS IS : http://hubpages.com/_

INSERT YOUR Url Tracker: xxxxxxxxxxxxx

COPY THE ENDING AS IS :/user/new/

THE RESULT: http://hubpages.com/_xxxxxxxxxxxxx/user/new/

This Above link is what you can use when you want to promote Hubpages to other writers.

For information on percentages and amounts to be paid, or any other related topic, go to your Account page and click on URL TRACKER and read the Affiliate Program information for referring new writers..

1) USE YOUR URL TRACKERS

Most writers here on Hubpages have at least one favorite Hubber whose work they like to reference in their own articles. Obviously, one way to do this is to simply copy the url address directly out of the browser, and add it as a link within your article, or at the bottom of it. But is that the correct way to actually earn money for referring the article? You may be surprised to learn the answer.

The Traffic Referral Program can be a good source of extra money from Hubpages. A lot of writers may already know that when they drive traffic from outside of HubPages to other Hubbers, they can get credit for a percentage of someone else’s page impressions. The problem is, not everyone knows how to go about setting this in motion. You can only receive your credit if you use a distinct URL TRACKER for each article that you refer. This is what Hubpages will use to track the activities, and know who to give the credit to. If you are referring articles WITHOUT using a URL TRACKER, you are NOT getting monetary credit for those referrals.

The easiest way to make sure you get paid for any credit related to article referrals is to:

A) Make sure you are logged in to Hubpages.

B) Go to the article you’d like to refer.

C) Scroll to the bottom of the page & click on “Link To This Page”

(a pop up window with the correct URL TRACKER will be provided) This URL TRACKER is distinctive to this particular article. Follow the same procedure to link to any and all other articles.

For information on percentages and amounts to be paid, or any other related topic, go to your Account page and click on URL TRACKER.

3) THE PROPER USE OF TAGS

By now, every writer on the internet recognizes the benefits of incorporating effective keywords and tags into their writing. That doesn’t mean that every writer knows how to do this effectively. Using TAGS is merely a means of singling out the important keywords and phrases that can be found in the article. The TAGS are added during and after publishing the article, and are available in the side column for reference purposes. Tags help the search engines readily identify what information can be found in the article. So as you can see, TAGS can be a big asset, if used correctly.

5) FINDING YOUR TRAFFIC SOURCE

Of the five different areas that Hubbers can use to maximize their earning efforts, this last one is probably the least used of them all. Regularly checking your Traffic Source will help you determine where your visitors originate from. When you can see exactly where traffic is coming from, you can create a strategy that includes doing whatever you are doing right, but doing more of it! When the Traffic Source link is clicked, you will get a history of all your combined page impressions and clicks. This is also a great ego booster, because you can use it to track your progress. Like the referral links, the Traffic Source link can be found on your Account page, at the top (to the left).

When it comes to money making tips and getting paid with your Hubpages, there are plenty of other techniques that writers have found to be successful. These were just a few that a lot of Hubbers end up overlooking. One important element should never be overlooked, or underestimated. This applies to writing for Hubpages, and anyplace else online. That element is: the necessity of writing unique and interesting content in a concise and easy to understand way. Striving to do this with each hub you create will help to receive higher overall ratings, and most of all, generate more revenue.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

This hub was written by a fellow Hubber and newbie to Hubpages (relatively speaking). I’ll be the first to admit that I have not made a lot of money yet.

Unlike those who profess to be getting rich through various internet means, this hub does not mean to suggest that by using the information here, you’ll get rich. I don’t even claim you’ll make a LOT of money, because:

  • A LOT is a relative term and means different things to different people.
  • I have no ideal what kind of time and efforts that each one of you put into your writing for Hubpages or any other site (That’s a big issue that is factored into your online writing success).

4) USING COMMENTS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE

Probably one of the biggest reasons that writers wander onto Hubpages and end up staying is the helpful and encouraging comments that fellow Hubbers leave for them. It’s hardly a secret that the “Comments” section (Usually found at the bottom of each hub) can be an asset to any Hubber. The question is: Are you fully using the comments capsule and letting it work to your advantage? That includes not just reading comments, but writing them also. This doesn’t mean that you should leave comments that are not genuine, and then seize the opportunity to start tooting your own horn! While most Hubbers don’t mind you mentioning a relevant point, and even citing a web address, you shouldn’t take this time to steal someone else’s thunder.

This can sometimes happen, both accidentally and on purpose. That is why there are some Hubbers who don’t allow comments containing url addresses (which typically turn into links automatically), or other personal information. Rather than allowing posts to automatically be published to the hub after someone responds, some choose to monitor the comments. Then they can either “Accept” or “Deny” various comments and post the ones they want.

On the other hand, some Hubbers specifically provide readers an opportunity to comment and leave their url address and other pertinent information.

The insightful “Comments” and positive feedback that visitors leave on your hubs can be used in your related articles for references. They can also be used as examples of positive reviews.

There’s another great advantage to posting and reading “Comments”. Readers notice posted comments that are useful and of interest. They tend to click on the profile to find out more about the poster. This will often cause visitors to go and read the comment posters hubpage articles. If the original Hubber used a URL TRACKER, they’ll receive the credit for page impressions when the visitor clicks on the referred Hubbers page.

So as you can see, leaving “Comments” AFTER READING another writer’s hub can be extremely beneficial, and fun too! It goes without saying, it’s good to read the comments that other writers leave on your own hubs as well as on the hubs that you personally visit. When Hubbers use this option properly, everyone involved will benefit from the Comments capsule on Hubpages.

NOTE: There is an ongoing debate that directly relates to the way we leave "Comments" and the benefits we can and cannot receive from them. Read: all about "nofollow" and "dofollow" and how it relates to YOUR comments

Charm-baker, what a wonderful hub, you have been here for just weeks but your information is like a person who have been here for 2 years. I do believe one has to learn all these little details to succeed in writing online, but most writers would want technical information which their application is quite difficult. Actually the beauty of hubpages is the referral tracker, with this you can earn more money with few qualitative hubs than a person who have many hubs with no quality. The other thing I have also noticed when leaving a comment is also to use your keyword, great work

Hello Charm-Baker. What a great hub. I should have read this when I first started. I finally got how to use url trackers and implemented it right away. And yes I am going to link to this hub for sure and I am joining your fun club. You are a good teacher. If you ever come back to this hub I have a question. I don't seem to get comments on my hubs. Can you read one or two of them if you ever have time and give me your opinion as to how I can improve my writing so it will be more interesting. I would really appreciate it. thanks.

Fantastically helpful hub! This filled in a lot of blanks for me. I have a website out of hubpages (www.thereusesite.com), and I have been scratching my head, trying to figure out what to do to increase traffic to both sites. I know my SEO and promotion leaves a lot to be desired, but baby steps, you know.

Thanks so much for your help!
