If you've ever been in the situation where you need a pair of socks or a change of socks and don't have one, it can be very annoying. Whether you are going bowling, trying on shoes or accidentally stepping in a puddle, having a change of socks on hand is always a smart idea.

Since they are small and difficult to damage, they can be stored almost anywhere. The key is to put them in places you can forget about and still have them there when you need them. Here are 5 places to always keep a spare pair of socks.

1. In the trunk of your car.

There isn't a good reason not to have a spare pair of socks in the trunk of your car. There isn't any kind of room restraint, and your car is going to be with you on most occasions. Keeping a spare pair of socks as well as some other "emergency clothing" is a great idea that I recommend everyone take advantage of. You will thank me next time you get your shoes rained on.

2. In your coat pocket.

This might sound a little rediculous, but it works. Most of the coats in your closet have several pockets that you don't even use. There is absolutely nothing wrong with keeping a spare pair of socks in one of those pockets. This idea works especially well for keeping warm socks in thick, winter coats. You can also keep socks in lighter jackets for chilly summer or spring nights.

3. In your gym locker.

This practical piece of advice is from my own experience, and for two reasons. In the spring and summer, or even in the colder months for the ladies out there, you aren't always wearing socks with your shoes. I hate going all the way to the gym to see that you don't have a pair of socks to work out in.

Secondly, the gym I go to now has a laundry service. However, if I go after work then before work the next day my laundry won't be done. Also, a fresh pair of socks can be a quick change if you are going somewhere right from the gym.

4. In your purse.

For the ladies out there, your bag is big enough for a small pair of socks. No matter how much junk you have in your bag, make room for an essential pair of socks. Since you have your purse with you almost all the time, it makes sense to keep socks in there.

5. In your winter boots.

Sounds a little odd, but it works. I keep a pair of thick, wool socks in my winter boots at all time. This is because I've taken my boots somewhere with me and forgotten warm socks too many times in my life. By keeping socks in your winter boots, you are forgetting about them but keeping the two together at all times.
