5 Questions for My Cat
80I have taken the challenge to answer the question, "If you could talk to your cat, what would you ask him?" Let me preface by saying that I have a beautiful cat named Boo. He is an ocicat and is very strong willed. He is the most vocal cat I have ever owned and he is as affectionate as a puppy dog. He comes running when I call his name and runs to meet me at the front door when I come home at night. He is also blind.
My first question to Boo would be, “what is it like to be blind, to just see shadows?” He gets on very well and hardly ever walks into walls or furniture. He knows exactly where his litter box is, where his food is, where his water is, and where he gets his treats. He is also an expert fly catcher and it’s only a matter of time before a fly in my apartment gets caught.
My second question to Boo would be, “why do you bite me sometimes?” Boo is very affectionate but occasionally he gets a look in his eyes and jumps at me to try and chew on me a bit. He does it at night in bed too. I’m petting him and he’s purring, but suddenly the purring stops and he attacks. I am sure to him it is play, but I have a few scars that don’t feel like play. He has been locked out of the bedroom several times.
My third question to Boo would be, “when you throw why do you spread it all over the place?” Boo announces he is going to throw up with a series of loud meows. He then starts to run around throwing up in various places. Of course, when I’m not home he usually throws up on my bed. When I am around I try to coax him out onto the balcony to throw up but he won’t have it. He has to be as close to me as possible as if he thinks I can stop it.

My fourth question to Boo would be, “why won’t you let me put a harness on you and take you for a walk?” I have attempted to put a harness on Boo several times but he will not have it. He manages to back out of it no matter how tightly I have fastened it. I try to reason with him that he will like it and he can walk on grass and smell different smells, but he is not interested. He would rather be free in the apartment than leashed on the outside.
My fifth, and last question, to Boo would be, “why do you prefer plastic bottle tops to the toys I buy you?” I have probably invested $100 or so on cat toys for Boo. He will play with them for a while but then he will get tired of it. When I got Boo he came with a real Coonskin hat. This lives in a bag along with his other discarded cat toys. However, every once in a while I will find the hat in the middle of the living room or at other times will see Boo throwing it around the living room. His next favorite toy is the plastic rings from milk bottles. He loves these. He throws them around, he carries them around in his mouth and he brings them to me to play catch.
Whatever the answers Boo would give me, I wouldn’t trade sharing my life with him for anything. He has the most personality of any cat I have ever known and he is as smart as a whip.

What a beautiful story and great questions. I understand about your cat being so loyal, mine is the same way, and I would have similiar questions, maybe they are kin? Cats can be even more loyal than dogs, I now mine is. Thanks for sharing!
I love it that you tackled the challenge.. great hub!!
I think I'm going to have a heart to heart with my cat right now!
Let us know if you find the answers to you questions. I feed two stray cats, a mother and son. It's so wonderful to watch her still take care of him after 6 months. He too is half blind. Nice Hub.
yay Boo! Keep 'em guessing!
If we want predictability we'll get a dog, right?
Boo is great! He's very handsome and playful. Ari likes to bite too. As a kitten I had to shut him out of my bedroom or he'd play Nosebite when I tried to sleep. I didn't mind Toebite so much since I'd put enough covers over my feet to just play back with him, but Nosebite as soon as I dropped off was way too much. He learned to stop.
I learned not to scritch his irresistible fuzzy tummy or he'd play rough. Some of that play-biting is that cats by instinct do play rough with other cats. They don't realize that we don't have an inch of thick fur protecting our skin and a hard play-bite will scar. They don't mean it to be cruel, they mean it to be fun or if they are mad, something more like a slap between humans than a punch or all out attack.
Ocicats are part wild, I think, so that may have something to do with his breed playing rougher than some other breeds. Siamese do too though. Ari learned to bite gentle on me but not till after he was neutered.
He looks much like my wife's cat Gidget. She goes on walks with me and the dogs, rain or shine. She cries the whole way if it is raining but has a fit if she can't go too. She also had a problem of puking. I discovered that she would often binge, so I now withhold large portions from her and that seems to have put a stop to that nonsense. She brings in critters to have fun with the dogs and they all chase whatever it is around the house. That is only if the weather is cool and I leave a door open for her as she will not use the pet door. Fun hub UW.
Ha he looks like he has a lot of personality. When I had a cat her favorite toy was the plastic ring off the milk jug. She would just flip and attack that thing over and over. From myexperince of cats they do not liek anythig domesticated at all.. Especaily collars of any type. it would always be a big deal even to put a flea collar on her! I really enjoyed this hub!
My beast bites me if I sneeze. She'll come charging in from wherever she is and chase me around the room.
LOL I would too. Eye.
Well, Boo is now 11 years old and still acts like a kitten at times. Actually, ocicats don't have any wild in them at all; they are part Abyssinian, part Siamese and part Tabby cat.
That is funny Eye, Boo attacked me once for sneezing and scaring him :)
Thanks for commenting everyone.
UV - I was drawn to this because Boo is a cat. I'm rather glad I was. Boo is gorgeous and clearly has that 'something extra'. I've always loved any animal that's got a quirk (or three) and Boo appears to be such a one. I wish him - and you - many more qurky cat years together :)
nice story good questions
Do you really think Boo will deign to give you any answers? He's a cat ( and a real fine looking one)...doesn't have to answer to anyone! :P
Oh I love Boo! What a great character, and a cutie! My parents' cat, Danny, is similar in some ways. No matter how much we attempt to move him to the kitchen (a hard floor that is easier to clean), he feels the need to vomit on the carpet. He is an expert moth-catcher (although somewhat intimidated by spiders, much to our disappointment). Danny loves going out on the patio and chewing grass (then throwing up on the carpet, naturally), and will play with a clothespin, tape dispenser, pencil, paper clip, computer printer, and anything else you can think of, while leaving his overflowing, heaping basket full of store-bought kitty toys almost untouched. Thanks for the laughs!
That Picture is priceless!
Thanks for commenting, Boo is great company.
What a great article! I felt like I was reading about my own cat! Like you, I am madly in love with my little guy and wouldn't trade him or his "snap" moment where we are cuddling and then he attacks like a crazy little man, for the world!
Well, I'm glad to know Boo isn't the only one who does that :)
Boo is very cute, Uninvited. And the hub was great. Very well written and a lot of fun! And yes my kitten Tiger does that too where he will snuggle with me and then suddenly attack. So cute but such a butt lol
Interesting story!!
Thanks.
Wow Nice Hub!!
Thanks..
Boo is gorgeous! What a sweet cat. My Maya bites me sometimes, too, but I think it's out of affection. As a crazy cat person, I really enjoyed this hub!
A fun question, I am not sure what I would ask Barney but I know his answers would be like most of the things he does, they wouldn't make sense.
interesting Hub!!
Thanks!!
THANK YOU for sharing Boo with us :) I hope to see and read more about him soon. I also hope you will take the time to read about my cat Paco :) Every cat is very special in his or her own way. Both Boo and Paco prove this!
I think it's quite amazing that Boo can rely completely on his other senses and even catch flies. He's obviously a very special animal and you're lucky to have him :)
Sounds like you have a good cat in Boo. Your questions to him made me laugh. I have a "Boo" too but his name is Spooky. He was not supposed to live past a year; he is currently 13 1/2. Cats are something special. Thanks for sharing.

I bet you had Boo for a long time, UW. My sister's cat, Ginger (a green tabby) has been in the family now for about 12 years or so. She does the same thing when we pet her for too long a period of the time. We think that she's gone senile. It's quite common, it seems. Great fun hub. I can see why you love your boo so much :)
