Intro to Organic SEO

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO (as you may have heard the abbreviation), is an integral part of building a successful website, blog, or internet business. Organic SEO is basically a set of principles that should help you gain more natural--or organic--search traffic.

Looking at it simply, SEO is just the process of making your website or blog easily findable by search engines and web surfers. Think of it as making your site CLEAR. Clear as in it's easy for people to understand what kind of information your site presents.

By using title tags, targeted keyword phrases, and anchor text, you can make your site more easily navigable and findable in search engines. It's really all about cleaning up your site.

Read the following basic tips on how to improve your on-site SEO.

On-Site SEO Tips

On-Site Organic SEO Tip 1

1) Create a Clear Title that Describes What Your Article or Post is About and Include Keywords.

Your title is probably the most important aspect to on-site SEO.  It is the biggest indicator of what your content is about.  Search engines weigh titles very heavily for obvious reasons.

On-site Organic SEO Tip 2

2) Link to Your Homepage and Other Related Pages from New Blog Posts or Articles.

Linking back to your homepage not only strengthens its position in search engines for the chosen keywords, but gives your readers the additional option to go visit your homepage.  This is important for navigation purposes and also creates more page views which is always a good thing.

More page views equals more advertisement impressions, more revenue (if you run ads on your site), and the greater chance people will subscribe to your RSS feed or do whatever it is you want them to on your site.

On-Site Organic SEO Tip 3

3) Use Your Chosen Keyword Phrase in the Body of Your Content.

This tells search engines that your content is about what you say it is about in the title. Don't stuff keywords--if you have good content, your main targeted terms and related terms should naturally fall into place.

Organic SEO Tip 4

4) Write Decently Long Posts

300 to 500 words should give search bots enough data to analyze.

Organic SEO Tip 5

5) Write Great Content that is Useful and Informative.

If you write great content, people will find it useful, and it will help your site grow naturally. Good content gets bookmarked, shared, and sent to friends. Furthermore, it will help you get links from other websites, which is absolutely KEY to getting traffic, good search engine rankings, and having a good SEO-d website.

SEO Books

Below this paragraph there are some links to SEO books that will be helpful to you as reference points.  But you will also be able to find a lot of information for free online as there are a TON of people who write about this kind of stuff.

But, you also want to be careful because you never know if someone really knows what they're talking (or writing) about.

Read the SEO wiki for more information too.  SearchEngineLand is a great blog that is dedicated to search engine marketing (SEM) and building findable websites that rank high in the search engine results pages.  Remember to not get too into the idea of trying to optimize your site, because you may start to slack on the quality of your content.  Don't get too wrapped up in it that you lose sight of true organic SEO, the kind of website promotion that will help you create a viable and real business, rather than just an optimized site.

As you can see, Search engine optimization is really about creating valuable and useful content and being very clear to visitors (not to mention the engines) what it is your site is about.  If you create worthwhile content and follow the above basic guidelines, you should start to generate some organic traffic.

The more work you put into promotion the better off your site will be.  SEO will only take you so far.
