If you are visiting London and you are looking to see what is of interest in the Greenwich area here are a few suggestions to get you on your way. If you are traveling from central London you can get to Greenwich by using the overland train from London Bridge to Greenwich Station or take the underground train, the tube. Change on the Jubilee line and change at Canary Wharf and get the Docklands Light Railway (the DLR) to the Cutty Sark Station. This will bring you into the heart of Greenwich.

Alternatively you could choose to make your base in Greenwich as it is a beautiful town which has a lovely village feel due to its individual and independent shops as well as extensive parks. There is a good selection of hotels to choose from ranging from the Ibis Hotel, the Novotel of if you want a quaint bed & breakfast I would recommend a place called No 16 St Alfege Passage in Greenwich.

Note:Technically this list has 6 things to see in Greenwich. I added The Cutty Sark because this is what Greenwich is really known for but it is not currently available to view. But I just couldn't leave it out. so 6 things explained but only 5 things to see.

Founded by King Charles II in 1675 the Royal Observatory was created to promote safer navigation. Sir Christopher Wren oversaw the design.

See the Old Royal Observatory at Flamsteed House, GreenwichPark, SE10.

The Royal Naval College came to be used as a home and hospital for injured and disabled seamen during the 1600s. Previously it was a favorite residence for King Henry VII. In fact his son Henry VIII was born here and he went on to marry Catherine of Aragon and Anne of Cleves at this residence. it was here that he also signed the death warrant of one of his other wives, Anne Boleyn.

Originally a music hall, Greenwich Theatre was founded in 1855. It has been through several reincarnations including being a cinema, a hippodrome and it also used to host many productions before they headed into one of the big theatres in London’s West End. The theatre closed for a short period due to lack of funding but reopened with a charitable status and welcomes visiting productions from around the country.

A fantastic place to go and enjoy a picnic.

The park was designed for King Charles II by a French landscape gardener. It used to be a hunting park and is now one of the largest single green areas in South East London.

Among other things in and around the park you will find the Old Royal Observatory and the National Maritime Museum.

The Dome was originally created as part of the celebrations for the Millennium.

Shortly afterwards it was sold to the global company O2 and rebranded as the O2 Arena who have made it into an exciting entertainment venue that has hosted concerts, comedy acts, sporting events and film premieres.

People who have appeared at this venue include Beyonce, Britney Spears and Take That and comedians Chris Rock and Lee Evans. Film premieres have included High School Musical 2 and The Simpson’s Movie.

See the O2 Arena at Drawdock Road, NorthGreenwich, SE10 0BB

The Cutty Sark was one of the last old tea clippers that sailed between Britain and China during the 19^th century. It was built in 1869 and was the fastest ship at that time. The Cutty Sark contained a collection of mementos of its past voyages.

In 2007 there was a fire on this wooden vessel and it was almost completely destroyed. It is now being painstakingly restored to its former glory.
