People coping with break up depression have trouble getting control of their emotions. It is this fact that causes them further pain and anguish then they have to endore. If you can avoid common mistakes the first couple weeks after a break up you would be that much better off to recovering.
First off realize that break ups happen all the time. The emotions you are feeling are normal. You can choose to look at this in a negative light or a positive light. The fork in the road can lead you two ways. Do you live in fear of the unknown and the uneasy feeling of not having something familiar or do you get excited about all the NEW possibilities.
