1. Link your Xbox 360 to your wireless network, no microsoft adaptor required!

The nice news is that you do not have to spend money for Microsoft’s obnoxiously expensive Wi-Fi adaptor. The not so nice news is you will need a laptop computer with Wi-Fi to make it happen. Go to Control Panel - Network Connections (In Windows XP) or Network & Sharing Center - Manage Network Connections (in Vista). Pick the Local Area Connection and the Wireless Network Connection directly, now right-click and select ‘bridge connections’.

Dis-connect then re-connect to the wireless network, connect a network cable from the laptop’s Ethernet port to the 360s, now you should be ready to roll. Alas, you might have to take away the bridge (repeat the above technique and you’ll notice the option) whenever you would like to surf the internet with the laptop.

2. Listen to music from your iPod

Not really secret in and of itself, but Microsoft does not exactly yell about it playing good with a device designed by arch-rivals Apple. Out of sight in the depths of the Marketplace, you’ll find a small download called ‘optional iPod support’. When you’ve snapped up that, connect your iPod (iPhones aren’t supported yet, unfortunately) and go to the Media Blade. You’ll notice your ipod appear here, and can now browse its tracks by album, artist, genre etc. It will also charge thru the USB port!

3. How to reset your Xbox 360 video settings

Remember this tip if you are in the habit of transporting your console to buddies places and connecting it to various displays. It can wind up trying to send out the wrong signal, so you won’t see anything or get a flickering video output luckily, there’s a somewhat easy repair if this should happen. Eject any discs from the tray and turn the console off. Then switch it on with a game pad. As it starts up, hold down Y, then hit and hold the right trigger. The video settings will be restored to default, and you’ll stop worrying!

4. Playback any media file, and online videos on your Xbox 360

Free application Tversity easily circumvents the purposeless video/audio restrictions Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo alike smack on their consoles, allowing them to play any format. Once again, you’ll require a computer on the same network, only it’s an unproblematic task of installation of the program and letting it scan the folders you hold your media in. It will substitute the regular network file-sharing system Windows has, it merely behaves a good deal like the same way at the 360’s side. In addition to that, it will convert unsupported filetypes on the fly - although you’ll require a fairly fast computer to manage this with large video files, or else you’ll be waiting a while. You'll be able to also add online video URLs on the computers end - including Youtube - and then get at those on the 360.

5. Use whatever HDMI cable and still have digital surround sound

Although the newest 360s come with a HDMI output for optimum video quality, they have constructed the ports in such a way that you can’t use the standard component/composite video cable, with its essential optical audio output, connected simultaneously as HDMI. As an alternative, you’re expected to spend a terrible sum of money on the official HDMI cable with audio adapter. Forget that!. See that bulky plastic box at the end of the standard video cable that links to the 360? Poke a knife or screw driver into the joint and twist to pop it off. The result appears untidy, but is smaller enough to connect beside a regular, cheap HDMI cable.

I had no idea about the iPod support. I'll probably use that in the near future, thanks.
