   1. If your site is new, make sure you have an about and contact us page.  People love content that they can associate with.  Why do you think the nerds over at Digg love Kevin Rose?

   2. Create a group associate with your niche.  Yahoo, and Google both have groups where members interested in your topic can join

   3. Use myspace, twitter, facebook to publicise your company on the social networking sites

   4. Bookmark your site on Del.icio.us and if you're really keen, add a Del.icio.us button to your homepage.

   5. Claim your blog at technorati

   6. Submit your sites to directories.

   7. Offline publicity: Conduct a survey and say that the results can be seen at: Your Website

   8. Place an ad for your company on gumtree/craigslist/  (Don’t Spam)

   9. Use the power of RSS and syndication to make sure that everyone has access to your sites at all time.

  10. Make sure your feed is submitted to feedburner.

  11. Write unique articles about your site and submit them to article submission sites.

  12. Use stumble upon to thumbs up your site.  The better your own rating the higher pull you will have at stumble pone.

  13. Your 404 page should be nice and not just the standard “page not found”.  Some 404 pages have been so funny that they have been viral hits on the internet.

  14. Set up a 301 redirect to take traffic from your non-www address to your www address.

  15. If you posts on forums that allow you to have signatures with links use your website as a signature.

  16. Tell your friends about your site. It's free advertising.

  17. Spell check your stile.

  18. Test your site for compatibility in mozilla, opera, and of course internet explorer.

  19. Make sure you are on a decent host.  No one wants to come to your website to find it slow and inefficient.

  20. Page rank means nothing, stop stressing over it.

  21. Offer something for free.

  22. Tell your neighbours.

  23. Offer your users as many ways as possible to contact you.

  24. Advertise your site on Craigslist.

  25. Frames are bad.  No one likes frames.  Stop using FRAMES ON YOUR WEBSITES NOW

  26. Submit your site to DMOZ.org and forget it.  After 3 years someone should look into approving you

  27. Submit your sitemap to GooGle webmaster tools.

  28. Get a custom t-shirt made with your web site url on it, and wear it often.

  29. Ask a large breasted lady to wear one too.

  30. Sign up with an affiliate program.

  31. On your Contact Page ask people if they mind receiving your newsletter.

  32. Send out a newsletter!

  33. Go to a free seminar for Web site owners.

  34. Leave comments on relevant blogs that would link back to yours.  Don’t spam people but rather engage them in a conversation.

  35. Paid search engine submission is  a rip off.  Its pointless if your content is good the search engines find you.

  36. YouTube and Google Video are excellent portals on which to launch a viral campaign, people <3 lolcatz.

  37. Write an ebook and give it away for free, free always gets traffic.

  38. Sponsor a Word press theme or a phpListDirectory template.

  39. If you sell products that are advertised on television by the manufacturer, add "As Seen on TV" to your site!

  40. Avoid proprietary technologies like Java and Active X, search engines can’t crawl that crazy stuff.  Same for flash. Welcome to 2009

  41. Put downloadable content on your site, but make sure it's not manufacturer specific. Only legal stuff.

  42. Learn about CSS.

  43. Contribute to related subject areas on Wikipedia, again don’t spam

  44. Ask bloggers and other Web site owners to review your site and/or products.  A review is a free way to get traffic and backlinks.

  45. SEO your URLS

  46. If you must have a Flash homepage, make sure you have a "Skip Intro" link.

  48. Become a leading authority on your chosen subject.  Guy Kawasaki is famous for no reason at all

  50. Abide by the W3C standards
