One of My Favorite Actors

Clint Eastwood is in the top five of my favorite actors. He's rugged, versatile, and very talented. Even though he started out as many did in not so terrific "B" movies, he became one of Hollywood's most famous and beloved stars. Here is a list of his accomplishments. I hope I haven't left anything out.

1950s-2009

In the 1950s he made "Revenge of the Creature" and "Tarantula" (about a giant spider terrorizing a small town).  These were a couple of "B" rated horror movies.  He appeared in "Francis In the Navy" (he played opposite Francis the talking Mule in this comedy).

In the 1960s he became a household name after starring in three movie series that included "A Fistful of Dollars", "A Few Dollars More" and "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly".  The last of these three being the best of the lot.  Fame from these brought better roles in movies like "Where Eagles Dare", "Coogan's Bluff" and "Hang 'Em High".  Then straying from his typical acting he starred in "Paint Your Wagon", a musical with Lee Marvin.  Our first chance to hear Clint sing.

In the 1970s, straying far away from the westerns, he starred in "Play Misty For Me".  He played a radio dj being terrorized by an obsessed female fan.  This was also his directorial debut.  Then came "Dirty Harry" that tough cop with no pity.  It wasn't long before he was back in the saddle with "High Plains Drifter" and "Joe Kidd" (which he directed also).  Next came a comedy/action movie titled "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" which he starred in with Jeff Bridges.  Then came the 2nd and 3rd Dirty Harry movies, "Magnum Force" and "The Enforcer" with Dirty Harry getting better all of the time.  These were followed by "The Outlaw Josey Wales" , a comedic drama about an ex-confederate guerilla running from the Union Soldiers that killed his family.  Along the way, he picks up quite a cast of strays.  "The Outlaw Josey Wales" is one of my favorites.  Then came "The Gauntlet"  with Sondra Locke (who starred in more than one of his coming films).  Next, came the ever lovable orangatan, Clyde and "Every Which Way But Loose".  Followed by another of my favorites "Escape From Alcatraz" (this is based on a true story of an inmate of the prison).

Now the 1980s have rolled in and we see Clint in the sequel to "Every Which Way But Loose", "Any Which Way You Can".  Every bit as funny as the first one.  "Honky Tonk Man", the story of an aspiring country singer who has tuberculosis trying to get his first big hit before he dies.  Clint's son also played in "Honky Tonk Man".  "Firefox and the 4th installment in the Dirty Harry series, "Sudden Impact" (which was the biggest money maker of the four) came next.  Then we had "Tightrope", "Pale Rider", "The Dead Pool", "Pink Cadillac" (not much at the box office), "The Rookie" and "White Hunter, Black Heart".

The 1990s rolled in with "The Unforgiven" (he directed this one) and "In The Line of Fire" in which he played a secret service agent.  Then, "A Perfect World" with Kevin Costner.  I enjoyed that one immensly.  "The Bridges of Madison County" (based on an Oprah picked book carrying the same title) was next.  This was followed by "Absolute Power", "Space Cowboys", "True Crime" and "Bloodwork"

The 2000s brought us "Mystic River" and then a four year hiatus from acting.  He came back with "Million Dollar Baby", which he starred in and directed.  This is a very good movie about a female fighter.  This movie won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2004.  His latest movie is "Gran Torino", also a very good movie.

I hope I didn't leave anything out.  But, if you know of any that aren't here, please comment and let me know.  Thanks!

Gran Torino was very good. I think my favorites are the A Fistful of Dollars and it's two sequels.

I remember back in college I used to imitate Clint--the way he spoke, hair style, the way he squinted, and his physique. I even dreamed of being named Clint. I liked his cool-character roles. Today, it's Steven Seagal for me. But I still like Clint. Hihihi! Funny me.
