A 50cc scooter is not a particularly large or powerful scooter. For the average student with a short commute, this may be just fine. It's also possible that your 50cc scooter may have trouble with two passengers. If you anticipate bringing a friend with you much of the time, you may want to consider a scooter with a larger engine. In some areas, you can ride a 50cc scooter with only an automobile or bike license. In others, you will need to apply for a special motorcycle license. When you park your scooter somewhere, you should be sure to lock it up. Most scooters will have a unique key for the ignition like a car, but this may not be enough to keep it safe from theft. Most people recommend using a wheel lock as well. Be sure to carefully secure your helmet to the scooter too: a good helmet is not inexpensive to replace.
