50cc Scooters
6650cc scooters are a convenient and quick way to get around town in a way that's faster than a bike or a car. You can find your own 50cc scooter by searching online or checking scooter retail stores close to your home or work.
A 50cc scooter is not a particularly large or powerful scooter. A 50cc scooter is most appropriate for getting around flat cities: If you live in a hilly city like San Francisco, California, most experts recommend a scooter of at least 100cc or 125cc engine size in order to not have problems getting up the steep hills. If a 50cc scooter is enough for your needs, there are a couple of great benefits. First, scooters with smaller and less powerful engines tend to be less expensive and you can probably find one for less than $1000. It should also be a very efficient engine and you should not surprised if you can get 80 miles per gallon or more.
While they do sip fuel conservatively and can be inexpensive to buy, you should not expect that a 50cc scooter will be fast enough in order to drive on the freeway or highway safely, and may be confined to city streets. For the average student with a short commute, this may be just fine. It's also possible that your 50cc scooter may have trouble with two passengers. If you anticipate bringing a friend with you much of the time, you may want to consider a scooter with a larger engine. On the other hand, if it's just you most of the time, 50cc may be sufficient for your needs.
In some areas, you can ride a 50cc scooter with only an automobile or bike license. In others, you will need to apply for a special motorcycle license. If this is your first time riding a motorcycle or scooter, you probably should take a safety class in order to not hurt yourself! Though it may feel a lot like riding a bike, there are subtle differences to having a gas motor between your legs that can be the difference between be safety and injury. Even though your 50cc scooter is not especially powerful and you won't be going highway speeds, you still should wear at least a helmet and ideally motorcycle gloves and jacket as well to keep yourself safe.
When you park your scooter somewhere, you should be sure to lock it up. Most scooters will have a unique key for the ignition like a car, but this may not be enough to keep it safe from theft. Most people recommend using a wheel lock as well. Be sure to carefully secure your helmet to the scooter too: a good helmet is not inexpensive to replace.
