More Useful Information about the National Do Not Call Registry
The Federal Trade Commission oversees the National Do Not Call Registry and the rules which bind telemarketers into conducting themselves decently.
Take Notes:
- Once registered on the DNC Registry, telemarketing companies are given 31 days to comply and take your numbers off of their call lists.
- Add, verify or change your phone numbers on the Registry by following the above link.
- Want to allow telemarketers to call you? Use the link above to DELETE your phone numbers from the DNC Registry if you are currently registered.
- No one will call you from the registry, FCC or FTC offering to sign you up for the National Do Not Call Registry. These calls are scams.
- Once registered, you can register up to 3 phone numbers at a time, confirmation emails will be sent to the email box you provide. Open EACH EMAIL to confirm registration. A separate email will be sent for each phone number you register.
- Both land lines and cell phones may be registered.
- Your registration does not expire.
- If your phone is disconnected for any amount of time and then reconnected, you may need to re-register your information to the Registry.
- If your area code is "split" you will not need to re-register your phone number with the new area code. (Such sweethearts, they take care of that for you)
- Charities, political solicitations, phone surveyors and any company with which you have a relationship are NOT bound under the Do Not Call Registry and may still call you.
- If a telemarketer calls you after registering your phone number, you have two options 1) ask the telemarketer to add you to the company's do not call list 2) file a complaint with the Do Not Call Registry which will be forwarded to the FTC.
