Are You Superstitious?
50Are You Superstitious?
This Friday is Friday the 13th! Where did all the "Friday the 13th" superstition come from anyway? Is it a day we should really be weary of? Well, folklore that's been passed on shows that 13 is an unlucky number and that Friday is an unlucky day of the week. I don't know about that statement! I think everyone looks forward to Fridays! It seems to be the best day of the week for most! It's said that Jesus was crucified on Friday. It also turns out that "Black" Friday has been associated with stock market crashes since the 1800's, and other disasters as well. Maybe just coincidence?
I was surprised to find out that the Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute in Asheville, North Carolina quoted that it is presumed that 17 to 21 MILLION people in the United States are weary of this day! Some of these individuals do not even get out of bed and avoid normal routines! Wow! The actual technical name of the fear of Friday the 13th is "paraskavedekatriaphobia" that stems from the Greek.
For many centuries, Friday was known as "Witches' Sabbath" in Scandinavia. There is a mythological story stating that Friday is named for the free-spirited goddess of love and fertility, "Frigga". When the Germanic and Norse tribes converted to Christianity, the goddess of love was cast out in shame to a mountaintop and called a witch! They thought that every Friday, the vengeful Frigga held a meeting with eleven other witches, including the devil (which would make this a gathering of thirteen) to conspire bad fate for the upcoming week.
I'm assuming most of us joke about it being the big bad "Friday the 13th", and just keep the idea of superstition in the back of our heads. Chances are though, if you are looking for something bad on this day, you'll see it, however bad things are happening all the time. It most likely is merely coincidence. Never let your guard down no matter what day of the week! It's always wise to have some type of self defense product on you. A 625,000 Volt Stun Master Stun Gun is an excellent choice of protection for anyone! A Mace⢠Pepper Spray Attractive Leatherette Key Chain Pepper Spray is very affordable, and something everyone should have. It fits easily in a pocket or purse and it features a glow-in-the-dark locking safety cap and key ring.
