7 Most Common Reasons Peeps UnFollow You On Twitter
79Spam Spam and More Spam
If you've been unfollowed on Twitter and never really worked out exactly what was going on, then you need to know, or you'll never get what you are doing wrong, and what you need to do to fix it? So stick around and we will reveal The 7 Most Common Reasons Why People Unfollow On Twitter.
Reason #1 Spam
Let's say you just added a post to your blog and you want to inform the Peeps (BTW That's Twitter talk for people). Most people won't mind you sending out the old Tweet about it. You can even get your blog to do this automatically for you. So inform them once, or even twice and you will probably even get away with 3, 4 or even 5 but it's not recommended. Telling them more than 5 times a day is just dam annoying and sounds needy. Keep an eye on your tweets and develop relationships with people instead of annoying them.
There is a ratio of Tweeting that can work for you. For every 7 to 10 Tweets about something else you should self promote only once. If you use that guideline you won't go far wrong.
Reason #2 Links Sink Ships
When we see a link, we just want to race the old curser over it and do the deed don't we?, It might be a funny video, or some really cool informative stuff , but we also like to know what the topic of link is before we do the deed. It’s important to put some content that is relative to your link in front of it so the clicker knows what he or she is in for. You only have got 140 characters, which is enough space to add a phrase or couple of words that indicate what the link is about.
A tip here is to go to the link shortening site of Tinyurl.com to pick up a shortened link, as some links will take up the majority of your 140 characters.
Reason #3 Don't Brag about Your Followers Numbers
Who really gives a Rat's Behind how many followers you have? It just doesn’t really matter, its rude to tweet about it, it sounds like you are rubbing it in to those who don't have as many as you do.. It is pretty cool to reach milestones, we all like to do that and encourage you to, but tweeting it out there just isn't cool. It sounds like you are bragging and indirectly sends out a challenge to people to unfollow you.
Anyway you may find that some of your Followers are watching your numbers too, and they may even send you a "Congratulations" and that's OK, because it is someone else, not you.
Reason #4 Keep It Out Of The Gutter
Don't put swear words in your Tweets, and don't put dirty jokes, videos or pictures in your links. If you like to pass these things around the internet, then do so via email to people you know personally . Because if you do this on Twitter, you will be unfollowed in herds.
Reason #5 Don't Be a Tweet Flasher
Did you ever open your Twitter stream, and fond that that one person
has filled up an entire screen from top to bottom? This is very selfish and not acceptable. Tweeting is more
about contributing as a part of a community and building relationships with peps. Don't be a
Tweet Flasher, don’t tweet 50 times in a short space of time, spread your tweets
throughout the day. Give value, and mix it up. For example you should reply to peeps, put in the odd quotation from a famous person, and help out where ever you see someone looking for it.
Reason #6 Control Your ReTweets
It is popular to RT or retweet something of interest to you. This is actually a great way of making a topic become viral. It is also a compliment to someone to be Retweeted. So if you see a great quote by Napoleon Hill or Mark Victor Hansen then go ahead and RT it. It's great to spread it around but... There is a limit and Retweeting does serve a purpose in the Twittersphere. But Retweeting can become an issue if it is the bulk of what you send out. It looks like you don't have anything personal to say, and Twitter is a community, don't forget that. Be certain to mix it up. Retweets what you see is value but don't over do it. Send out some of your own own stuff otherwise you will have your followers hitting the
unfollow button. People want to get to know you, and open yourself up, share who you really are.
Reason #7 Keep It Short and Sweet
A post on is 140 characters, the same amount of characters you use to send an instant message on your phone. So keep it at the limit. On occasions there may be an odd exceptional circumstance when you need to send a tweet that is made up of two 140 character tweets, but these are generally unusual. Choking up the Twittersphere with tweets that are 2 - 3 times more than the 140 characters is selfish and will result in people unfollowing you in hordes.
If you find an article somewhere you want to share, don't write it up, just grab the URL, take it to TinyURL.com to shorten it, and place it in the tweet box. Then people can make the choice themselves whether they want to read it or not.
