7 Seriously Bad Ways To Treat Acne
48As common as acne is worldwide, with millions of sufferers, it still amazes me at some of the really bad information that exists on the treatment of acne. With the advent of the world wide web the misinformation has just become worse. Most of this information has no medical or scientific backing but is still widely accepted as ways to treat acne. These 7 methods, and there are probably more, DO NOT WORK. They are :
1.Using a sun bed or long exposure to sunlight. Sunburn actually worsens acne by creating a dead layer of skin that blocks pores, not to mention the threat of skin cancer.Excess exposure to sunlight can also be dangerous if you are on certain medication, especially antibiotics. Some of these , in tablet form, can make your skin highly sensitive to sunlight. If you are going to be in the sun for long use a sun protection lotion with a protection factor of nothing less than 30.
2.Do not pick, play or squeeze your pimples. This only makes things worse and can cause infection resulting in the acne spreading. It will also leave an ugly mark or scar, not very good, especially on your face.
3.High amounts of vitamin A or B will not directly help your acne and in some cases can have side effects. Supplements are advised but take natural, organic vitamins and do note that supplements are not a substitute for a varied diet.
4.Products used to clean your house, no matter how much you dilute them will not cure your acne. In fact with the amount of chemicals that they contain you can do serious damage to your skin in the form of chemical burns and some pretty bad adverse reactions can result.
5.In relation to the above cleaning powders would fall in the same category. These are pretty ineffective in treating acne and can be rather dangerous to your health.
6.Creams such as Sudocrem work wonders for nappy rash but do not apply them to your face! They contain a combination of oils and greases that only make acne worse.
7.Tape left on the skin through the night might do something if you have oily skin, but the glue used on these sticky tapes can lead to allergic reactions and damage sensitive skin.
As I stated earlier, there are probably many more of these so called treatments for acne, and I know people are desperate, but please these shortcuts will not give you a miracle cure. Rather consult a professional and he or she will determine the best treatment program suited to your skin.
