7 Secrets To A Great Job - Introduction

Hey, that sounds nice doesn't it? Seven Secrets...

This actually happened to me recently. I had been in a work situation for a few years and needed a change. I succeeded in getting several interviews and the last one, I got offered a great job!

Getting A Great Job just before Christmas 2007 was my BEST Christmas present!

I said to Santa, "All I Want For Christmas Is A New Job!" Hooray!

OK, I know that you are very busy when you are looking for another job, so let's get cracking.

Secret 1 - Know What You Want In Your New Job

Secret 2 - Get Clear of Resentment, Anger etc in Your Old/Current Job

Secret 3 - Be Grateful For What You Already Have

Secret 4 - Write It Down!

Secret 5 - Get Help/Support

Secret 6 - Role Play/Interview Techniques

Secret 7 - After The Interview

Next time, I will start with each Secret... in the meantime, take the time to check out some of these great resources which I found for you. All you need is to get ONE IDEA from watching something which could help with your interview or how to prepare your resume to present yourself better.

Your CV or Resume is really how you `MARKET' yourself. The main goal of your CV or Resume is to get that interview with the consultant before they put you forward to their client. It is not to get that JOB yet. Or if you are approaching a possible employer, you would want to make sure not to blow your chances.

Remember, it is a process.

Not Jumping from A and Zooming straight to Z. If you do it carefully and pace yourself, you are more likely to succeed, than if you approach it haphazardly and start/falter/stop/restart again. You lose valuable momentum which is disastrous!

When you are sitting in front of the consultant or possible employer is the time for you to shine and `sell' them on you and your skills/experience. Actually, if you don't like the idea of `selling yourself', think of it as `Being an Assistant Interviewer' and help them to make a hiring decision in your favour.

Remember, people don't like to be SOLD TO, they like to buy. So, relax and help them to `BUY YOU!'

Secret 1 - Know What You Want In Your New Job

Sounds simple, doesn't it?

Knowing what we want. In fact, it is not easy at all. You need to be honest with yourself and not choose things which you think you should like or want.

For some people, perhaps the easiest way to start, is to write down a list of things they DO NOT LIKE or want to have in their new job.

Take a sheet of paper, draw a line in the middle and put LIKES and DISLIKES on each side. Then start writing them down as they come to mind. You can sort them out later. It is best not to analyze them too much, otherwise your mind will trick you!

For example, you may write:

DISLIKES

filing, paperwork

cold calling

numbers!

driving around town in peak traffic

LIKES

talking to people

meeting people

thinking of improvements, good with ideas.

good at making people feel at ease

From this list, you may find that you like talking and meeting people, you are good at bonding with them. You don't like cold calling or driving.

Perhaps, you could explore jobs where people come to meet you and you get to talk to them and help them with their enquiry such as in Customer Service/Support. You are good with ideas but not so good with the numbers. How about partnering with someone who is good with numbers?

Remember that what you like is different from what you are good at (doing). For instance, you may like the idea of making a lot of money as a top salesperson but you hate cold calling and talking to people!

It is better to be true to yourself and acknowledge your strengths as well as your weaknesses. You can improve on your weakness(es) if you are motivated enough. You could become better with the numbers or if you need to improve your communication skills, you could go to a course and do some self-study.

I read a story about a doctor who gave up his job to make cakes! Creating beautiful and yummy cakes was his passion! His cake shop was SO successful and he was very happy!

So WHAT IS YOUR PASSION?

Secret 2 - Get Clear of Resentment & Anger in Your Old/Current Job

Secrets, in jobs and life, everyone has them.

Hi, I hope that you have done the exercises in Secret 1 - Knowing what you want/don't want, to get an idea of what sort of job you would like. If not, go back and do them. You cannot go shopping without your list, otherwise you'd get distracted by all the fluff and `special' promotions.

In this 2nd Secret of Getting A Great Job, it is all about clearing.

We all hold baggage. Anger, resentment, frustration, betrayal, hurt, disappointments, control/authority issues...

If you do not clean up your junk, you will carry them into your next job. Guess what, the job would have changed but the one thing which is constant, is YOU! The one staring back at you in the mirror.

Perhaps some of you had problems with unfair dismissal, bullying at work, being passed over for a promotion, maybe even been fired from a job! The shock, the emotional upsets, disheavel in your life...all accumulate in your body and spirit. It is invisible. Deadly. Tenacious.

When you move on to a new job, your baggage follows you around. Secrets. You think that nobody can see them, but they are actually intuned by those who are perceptive. It is not a good thing.

I am sure that you had the best intensions to have a new start, a new beginning. Perhaps you considered taking your employer/manager/person responsible, to court, making a complaint against them, for what happened to you but you couldn't be bothered. You just want to get away from the negative environment.

Perhaps you even contributed to some of that negativity. Anger, resentment...They give it to you, you retaliate back. Yeah...

You know what, it doesn't matter, who did what, to whom! The result is the same. This negative energy clinging to you, is blocking positive things coming to you. Like falling into the sewer, Yuck! all the slime clinging to you. You can't wait to have a shower and clean up ASAP!

The best thing is to consciously resolve to clear up these negative energies. Cut the ties, so to speak. Like a giant octupus strangling you with its tentacles, you cut them away, one by one,and eventually, you are free!

How do you get clear? Be honest with yourself. Sit down, write down each Offence/event and write down the emotion which came up. Then resolve to clear it. Some people use this time to forgive the person(s) involved.

Do a Google search on letting go, clearing or search in Amazon, Ebay for books on clearing.

Work on it. Sorry but there are no shortcuts. Nobody else can do it for you.

The clearer you get, the quicker and easier you will manifest your dream job!
