Small businesses need to recognize from the very start that they need to promote their business.       It will take a little creativity and some earnest work to promote successfully. There are actually several ways to advertise a business without putting a big pressure on one’s finances. There are a lot of “relatively” cost-free options available for you to use.

1. Post your ad on Free Online Classified Ads and join free directory websites. There are a number of sites to choose from. They have varying ad expiries so you have to concentrate on monitoring your posts and answering all inquiries once they start coming in.

2. Use your car as a mini-billboard. Make a poster and put it up on the rear windshield of your car or on one of the passenger side windows.

3. Make the most use of social networking sites. Add not only your personal profile but also your business profile. You’ll know never know who you stumble upon on these sites. Your friends in the chat room may even turn out to be clients. Just be sure to be genuinely interested in them as friends less you come across as phony and then be very subtle with your sales pitch.

4.  Read web postings of topics related to your product or the services that you offer and add comments at the bottom of these web postings. If you put careful thought to your comments, that site will in all probability include a link back to your website.

5. Search for shops that will be willing to put up your posters in their windows. Ask them to retail your products and then give them a small fee for every sale they make.

6. All of us target increased traffic to our web sites for the simple reason that it helps our search engine rankings and provide us with potential customers. One of the easy ways to do that is by exchanging links with sites of a similar trade, or with sites that have content that will supplement our own. Be careful not to indiscriminately exchange links with everybody and anybody or you might end up being a “link farm” and hence risk being banned by search engines.

7. Bring people to your website by posting useful reference materials. Articles on How To’s are very much appreciated and it attracts many viewers. Submit these articles also to ezines and other forums with your website attached to your signature for added exposure.
