The exceptions were the now classic TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia) by MFSB & Three Degrees. This song is probably better recognized as the Soul Train theme song. Kung Fu Fighting and The Locomotion were the only other Top Ten Songs of 1974 that carried a fast beat.
And then there was the standout oddball comedy song of 1974 that made the now classic 70s songs list, The Streak.

Hey now! Who can resist the classic 70s song Kung Fu Fighting by Carl Douglas? Certainly not me. And The Streak is hilarious.
Heh...the scary thing is, I remember those songs. Vividly. Remember KC and the Sunshine Band? And my brother played 'Kung Fu Fighting' until I thought I'd scream. And...oh..."Wildwood Weed." Jim Stafford, I think. 'member? Hilarious.
My favorite of the time was EWF, though. I still love EWF and make my kids sit quietly whenever they come on the radio. #2 son actually stole one of my CDs -- took it with him when he went to college and I haven't seen it since.
Thank you for sharing some great music. I really enjoy this kind of Hubs with lots of video :-). It´s very inspiring.
Elisabeth, please don't laugh, but I like these songs if I'm in the right mood. (Dunce mood, maybe?) Another shameful secret- I like disco! And I have to dance if I hear Kung Fu Fighting. Wildwood Weed- a favorite song of mine. You're right. It was Jim Stafford. Earth, Wind, and Fire = awesome. (I'm not sure you would value my opinion now, though). ;)
Contribution, thanks for the kind words.
