Get groovy on the dance floor with 70s Fancy Dress Costumes

70's fancy dress

70's fancy dress costumes are amongst the most popular at Halloween and fancy dress parties up and down the country. Given the outrageous designs and colours it is little wonder why these seventies fashions are still so popular.

Disco fancy dress, in the form of hot pants and jumpsuits are particularly in vogue at the moment, following the incredible success of Mama Mia, as are ABBA outfits of course. Other costumes from this genre include glam rock, punk, pimp costumes, school disco fancy dress and outfits worn in famous movies from the decade, such as Superman and Star Wars.

Here are some of our favourite examples of 70s fancy dress:

70's Rock Groups

It is true that ABBA were HUGE in the 70s, but there are many other rock bands from that time who also wore flamboyant outfits, such as T-Rex, David Bowie and Elton John. Perhaps the most iconic of all were Queen and there are certainly many great Freddie Mercury fancy dress costumes available if you really want to get noticed at the party.

Seventies Movies

Memorable films from this decade are also the inspiration behind many of the 70's fancy dress costumes you see at Halloween. Superman is an obvious example and there are a number of interesting Star Wars characters, including Princess Leia and Darth Vader, which are always extremely popular.

Pimps

Another humorous type of 70's fancy dress is the infamous Pimps outfit, first seen in Harlem, during the seventies. Notorious for the outrageous costumes they wore, the pimps were often seen in brightly colored suits, strutting around with their most prized accessory, the pimp cane.

Whatever type of 70's fancy dress costume you decide to wear to the party this year, one thing is for certain; you are going to have a groovy time!
