7x50 Binoculars

If you are looking to buy binoculars, one of your first considerations will probably be what type of magnification you would like to have. The magnification number refers to how big the object will appear when looking through the binoculars. For instance, a 7x magnification will appear to be seven times larger than it does without using the binoculars. When you see a 7x50 number on binocular packaging, the first number always refers to the binoculars' magnification capabilities.
The most popular magnification is 7x, although there are also higher magnifications available. However, movement is also magnified by the same number as the objects you are viewing, so any hand shaking will become much more noticeable at a higher magnification. You might purchase a 10x magnification thinking that it will give you the clearest picture and find that the picture is blurry because of your hand tremors. These higher powered magnifications are better used on binocular mounts, which are similar to tripods for cameras. Higher magnifications also do not always work well in periods of low light, and usually provide a smaller field of vision as well.
You can also buy binoculars that are variable-speed, or zoom binoculars. These are able to change the power of their magnification, and can be a more versatile option for many users. The capabilities of variable speed binoculars are listed similarly to regular binoculars, except that the range of magnification is indicated. For example, a 7-15x50 pair of binoculars would have a magnification capability between seven and fifteen. Before buying variable speed binoculars, consider that the magnification, although variable, is never quite as refined as on a fixed magnification pair. Also, as the magnification is taken to a higher power the view can become dimmer. Variable speed binoculars are not for everyone, but can be a good option in certain circumstances.
