Everyone should know or at least heard about Digg. Digg is one of the largest communities, having well over 4 million daily visitors and hundreds of thousands of active members. I am one of the pretty active members in the community, and thought it would be nice to share some of the must-have tools for an active digg users.

Anyone that would like to become an active user in Digg`s community should try most of these helping tools, they don`t only help you achieve better results but they can save lots of time, and spare it for other important things you may have.

At a first look you may have a lot of questions regarding these tools, but anyone will find them useful and of daily heavy use, as you become more active in the community. Most of the end users on Digg use these tools, and what is really nice about them is that they are no way against any of Digg`s TOS.

Some things are required in order to use these tools, they are mostly java scripts and applications which only work while running web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox or Flock, I highly recommend Mozilla it works a lot better. So if not using Mozilla you can always download the latest version. You will also need to download an Firefox add-on called GreasyMonkey. This is the add-on that will help you run most of the scripts in the browsers. You might find them difficult to install, but here is an step-by-step guide which will allow you to get them running smoothly.

I will only list the useful tools, as there are lots of them that are pretty much similar, some of them not useful at all. Some of them are more effective and accurate than others, so I made a great selection of the best ones, which are really must-have.

Some more things before you get these applications running. These tools are to be used only by members that want to become more active in the community. No spam, bots or other malicious stuff will be tolerated, anyone doing it risks to get his/her account closed. I recommend to use them wisely in your and everyone`s favor. Social networks are the place to share content on the web, but highly promoting a website will get it banned, and you will no longer be able to submit any content from that domain.

1. Digg Alerter

This is one of my favorite applications. It saves a lot of time, simply by keeping track of your most recent submissions, along with all the information needed, the count of votes (diggs), or either if the story went popular or not. This application will also let you watch who exactly has been interested in your story and voted it for you, comments will also show up. This application is always running in the tool-bar, one of the nices things is that you can choose to get sound alert every time your story gets digged.

2 Digg this - Firefox Enxtension

This extensions helps users to easily digg a story right from the source page. One of the best ways to submit a story, it drives you directly to the submission form, all you have to do is to give your story a name and a description. I have been using this option for more than three months now, it`s faster than the usual submitting technique.

3. Smart Digg - Firefox Extension

If you are are really active in the community or just want to become more active, this extension is exactly what you need. Lets say you are surfing 100 sites daily, and submit stories from quite a few of them, this extension will help you find out if the story has already been submitted and the number of votes (diggs).

4. Digg button - Animation enabler

You might have seen on a lot of websites/blogs the 'digg it' button, also featuring the number od diggs that story has managed to get. This application will easily let you digg the story by clicking on the badge from webpage of the site, without having to go to the storie`s submission page on Digg. This may also be helpful, if you want to digg your favorite websites, posts on daily basis right when you surf on those websites.

5. Feedit

This application is far better than the original feed of Digg. This is the best way to monitor the stories that appear on Digg`s frontpage. Imagine that you can keep track of the stories you`ve submitted without having to actually go to Digg`s homepage. Each feed has an individual link to the story, so this way you can easily comment, digg , or thumb up your favorite submissions.

6. TINC - Who is digging you ?

Sooner or later relationships can be build up in such a community, I have already well over 200 friends that enjoy my submissions and constantly vote for them, not to forget the fans that are around 500. These user are somehow interested in the kind of content you submit to digg and decide to vote for it. There is no way one of your stories can become popular without having any mutual friends. You might for sure be interested in some of their stories and want to reciprocicate the votes, this would help them promote their stories as well. So, this is what TINC does, keep track of the people that have been digging your stories and who`s stories you have been digging lately. Thanks to the guys that have developed this script is one of the most useful.

7. Digg comment viewer

Now to be honest this is not a really must-have tool, but very useful if you want to keep track not only of the comments you made lately, but what your friends had to say about one of your stories as well. I keep this application running as it`s really nice to see what your friends have to say about the content you submit.

8. Social Blade - Front Page data

This is another great tool for keeping track of the front page stories along with the digg count and the % of friends that have dugg it, and some other useful elements. It helps to see the point when a story goes popular.
