80s Sunglasses - The New Hot Trend

If you really want to be considered a swinging chick, but do not think the retro style of the 70s or the flower power style of the 60s quite your scene, you can always look into what the 80s have to offer you in the matter of accessories. And that includes sunglasses, blinkers, visors, goggles, eyeshades, peepers, sun specs… what have you.

The 70s retro spilled onto the 80s, and that is the reason why, no fashionable person was complete without his stylish sunglasses either perched upon his nose or upon his head like Steve McQueen. So having a stylish pair of sunglasses is one of the most important must-have accessories to add to your repertoire as style icon.

Come to think of it, the idea of going in for 80’s style sunglasses is not a new thing, because that hot shot pilot Tom Cruise did manage to take everybody's breath away with his classic sun specs in Top Gun. He repeated the same magic in another movie, Risky Business. So there you are, stylish classic 80s sunglasses are nearly as hot as Katie Holmes' man. Now, Ray-Ban is quite clever in following one marketing strategy; it knows exactly what is what. So, when the very popular 1950s Hollywood Ray-Ban model, the Wayfarer began to make a comeback again in the 1980s, perched upon the cosmetic enhanced noses of stars, Ray-Ban decided to bring back the Wayfarer model again for popular public consumption. You can also blame for the option of a clear lens Wayfarer model, à la Johnny Depp!

Top Gun brought back Aviators into vogue again, after a lapse of 30 years. The idea was aviator top guns like Charlie Sheen Val Kilmer and Tom Cruise knew a quality product when they saw it and they went for it. The ladies in Hollywood also seem to prefer Aviators, especially Paris Hilton who hides behind them when she is swearing that Benjie and she are just good friends. The same goes for Jennifer Aniston, pushing up her aviators on her pretty nose as she desperately sms-es all her ex-es, from Brad Pitt to Whatishisname.

There are other models of sunglasses which gained a lot of popularity during the 1980s, especially the Louis Vuitton Millionaire models. The idea was based completely up on snob value, and a person wearing these models set out to tell everybody loud and clear, "Of course, I am not a celebrity, cannot you see I am hiding behind a millionaire model pair of sunglasses? I am rich, so it is a given that I should be famous…" The sunglasses have made a comeback in the 2000s, especially on eBay, where they are commanding top price.

There was another style of sunglasses very popular in the 1980s called shutter Shades. The idea was to have plastic strips across your visor, through which you would peep out, instead of looking out at the world through lenses. The 80s was a time of real fashionable innovations coming into vogue again. That is the reason why the accessories which were so popular then, have also made a comeback again!
