History of Liverpool FC
Liverpool Football Club is probably the most victorious club in English soccer history, having won eighteen league championships and have been crowned the Champions of Europe on no more than 5 occasions, including the stunning victory of 2005. Liverpool Football Club (LFC) is a professional club located within Liverpool, in the NW of England. For many millions, Liverpool Football Club is a very special place. Not wishing to offend anyone (apart from the friendly rivalry with the ManU supporters) but following Liverpool Football Club is more like a modern day religion than a plain interest.
The Club
Club followers from the Far East know just about as much about Liverpool FC as most of the best well-versed and hardline fans in the UK. Clubs that regularly win high-profile competitions make more coverage, both at home and aboard, and can command much higher prices. On July 30, 2004, the Liverpool City Council granted the club planning permission to build a new 60,000+ seater stadium, at Stanley Park. Plenty of other clubs have moved to new football grounds over the last 10 years. LFC has been the most successful club in the complete history of English football.
Football
Football has always been viewed by all classes of people, but the working class is more attached to particular football clubs than it is to the game as a whole. While the word Liverpool plainly denotes the city of Liverpool in the UK, and elsewhere, the name Liverpool FC is, in its ordinary signification, related exclusively with the Liverpool Club. I count myself lucky to have been around during the wonderful years after promotion back into the First Division, proud to have wonderful memories of great times, Bill Shankly, Don Revie. Joe Mercer and the players of the same era and say good luck to the brave new world of scouse footy.
Anfield
The Anfield ground itself is now vastly different to what it looked like 5, 10 and 15 years ago not to mention 25, 30 or even 50 years ago. The highlight for many however, is the opportunity to stroll down the celebrated players‘ tunnel and put your hand on the famous ‘This is Anfield‘ sign, which can put fear into other teams. The Anfield aura, history and its fabric is all part of the football club. The fact is that LFC is Anfield and that Anfield is LFC. The club offers regular tours of its Anfield stadium, which includes a visit to the players dressing rooms and a chair in the dugouts.
European Glory
European Cup triumphs at the Stad de Lutz, Stadio Olympico and more recently at the Westfalenstadion are witness to what a club like Liverpool Football Club is all about. The club happened to be present at two of the biggest tragedies to happen in European football, at both Heysel in 1985 and Hillsborough in 1989. A memorial to those who died at Hillsborough can be found at the Anfield gates.
Liverpool made their first impact on in the European circuit during 1973 with a UEFA Cup triumph, followed by winning yet another league title that season. In more recent years, the city has emphasised its cultural attractions, and century old buildings, winning the honour of European City of Culture for the year 2008.
Liverpool The City
Liverpool's modern Anglican Cathedral is the biggest cathedral of its kind in Britain and the 5th largest on the Earth. Liverpool is home to the oldest African and Chinese communities in Europe, born from the days of its wolrd class port. Liverpool carried out and financed the first ever Atlantic telegraph cable in 1886. As well as that Liverpool is home to the famous Grand National at Aintree, the most renowned National Hunt race in the world. The Liverpool Hotel, Hotel Liverpool and the Liverpool Adelphi are great places to stay if you have a bit of cash and you'll be within reach of Liverpool's finest restaurants and many other attractions. Whatever you choose to do, you'll require a map of Liverpool to find your way around this old city. Do not forget to pay a visit to the highly regarded Tate Gallery in Liverpool, you can find this located at the redeveloped Albert Dock.
