I hate going to the dentist and I'll bet that you do too! If people hate doing something or going somewhere, they delay it for as long as possible. However, if you delay or keep rescheduling your appointments with your dentist, it will only make things worse. Some people who haven't been to the dentist in years are honestly scared to go back because they don't want to know what the damage to their teeth is. This is exactly what has happened to me over the years and I finally got in touch with a dentist in my area last week to schedule my appointment. It has taken me three years to get back in to a dentist and the damage was substantial, nine cavities and a cracked tooth. Ouch! This truly goes to show that you need to visit the dentist on a regular basis, or you will be in a world of hurt, both physically and financially.

Dentists understand that people have fear of visiting them on a regular basis. This is exactly why I needed to find a good dentist in my area that was close (not waste my time), had new high-tech equipment, and a staff of beautiful dental assistants :) With a good looking dental assistant working on me and new dental equipment, it makes visiting a dentist an enjoyable experience.

So, the biggest question that I had, was how do I find a dentist in my area that is up to date with technology. I was rather surprised of how many resources there are to assist me with this. First, you can ask around. Word of mouth is powerful resource with asking close friends, family members, and co workers. They can tell you exactly what to expect from their dentist and if it would be a good match for you. Another good resource that I found what the American Dental Association. If you contact them, they can refer a good dentist in your area. They have a phone number listed on their website or a contact form for you to get in touch with them.

Many individuals use the yellow pages for finding everything, including their dentist. When trying to find a dentist in my area, I don't use this resource. In the yellow pages, every dentist is practically created equal. You will have no idea who to choose when using this method. The only thing that a yellow page ad is good for is to find out how long a dentist has been in a certain area.

Lastly, when you have a few dentist drilled down, you can go online and do a search for that particular dentist's name. Click on a few of the links and see what is said about that dentist. This will help you get the real dirt on a particular dentist like how long they have been practicing, where they went to school, if they do shoddy work, if people love the work they have done, etc. When I want to have the best dentist in my area working on me, I always take the time to do my research. Knowledge is power and with that power, you can make lots of educated decisions like choosing a dentist in my area.
