A Fast Heart Healthy Snack
51"I'm hungry!"
How many times do we hear those words? They normally come when the fridge is empty and the cupboards are bare.
To satisfy those hunger pangs and cravings it isn't necessary to have shelves stocked to the brim with biscuits, cakes, crisps or chocolate. At a time when many of us are trying to cut the cost of our weekly shopping and often trying to eat more healthily this adds another dimension to the problem. However, with a bit of ingenuity and some basic ingredients a satisfying snack is not far away.
Delicious!
Yoghurt Dip
A refreshing and delicious yoghurt dip will solve the problem.
All you need is natural yoghurt. Add some chopped mint (fresh is best but dried or even mint sauce will work) and chopped cucumber. Serve with vegetable sticks, crackers, toast or bread.
Variations: add a spoonful of mayonnaise (low fat, of course) or creme fraiche.
If a sweet craving takes hold then use the natural yoghurt as a dip for chopped fruit. Again, by adding a dollop of low fat creme fraiche you can achieve a creamier dip.
Quick and Easy
Yoghurt dips are quick and easy. A little can be made to go a long way. It's a great way to use up the left over vegetables in the fridge. Even better if you grow your own as you can just go out and pick what you need.

It's great when kids eat healthy snacks. I'm so lucky that my boys love vegetables and fruit. My youngest loves to snack on salad!
