Tennessee is quite famous for its scenic beauty, majestic mountains and country music. It is call the heart and soul of country music and is steeped in history and culture. It is a good place for your vacations if you want to know more about cowboy lifestyle and western way of life.

1) The most well known things about Tennessee are its Jack Daniels whiskey and country music. Jack Daniels is one of the best known whiskeys in America and is famous for its smooth taste. However, there are more interesting but lesser know facts about Tennessee that make it all the more unique and interesting places to visit.
2) Tennessee derives its name from the word "Tanasee" which means meeting place. The place was inhabited by Cherokee people before the settlers from Europe arrived. It is one of the only two states in US, the other being Missouri, which have 8 states surrounding them. Tennessee shares its border with Virginia, North Carolina, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas, Mississippi and Missouri.
3) Tennessee has the biggest fresh water aquarium in the world. Tennessee Aquarium located in Chattanooga is the biggest fresh water aquarium in the world with over 7000 animals and more than 300 species of birds, reptiles and mammals. Tennessee is also famous for turtles. Reelfoot Lake has a large population of different species of turtles. Tennessee also has the largest underground lake in the world in Sweetwater area.
4) Tennessee is also known as world's energy capital. The world's first atomic bomb was built in Tennessee. The centre at Oak Ridge where the bomb was built still continues with its energy research.
5) Tennessee is also famous for its inventions. Tennessee is the state where miniature golf and the famous Mountain Dew were invented. It was only later that Pepsi bought Mountain dew. The touch screen monitor was invented in Oak Ridge, Tennessee in 1977. MoonPie was invented at a Chattanooga bakery in the year 1917. Krystal Hamburger was also invented in Chattanooga during the great depression with an aim to provide nutritious food to people at low cost.
6) Tennessee changed the way shopping was done in the form of first Piggly Wiggly store in Memphis. Earlier, people used to bring their shopping list and expected store owners to collect the items for them. This concept changed with the launch of first Piggly Wiggly store in the year 1917. The customers were now expected to gather their own items in these self service stores. Tennessee also has to its credit the invention of Typewriter Ribbon and Tow truck.
