A Frail Ego
From a spiritual point of view, our ego was created to maintain a balance between our physical and spiritual existence,
The ego is developed through experiences, influenced by our past, our present, and our thoughts of the future. When we start to identify so much with our physical existence, an imbalance occurs. Our spiritual self is pushed far into the background, and the ego becomes the primary voice.
Unfortunately, throughout the ages, the ego begins to take on a life of its own. Many times, the ego fluctuates in maturity level. One moment, we may run an idea past the ego, realizing that a particular choice will create wonderful results. The next moment, we may have a tantrum because the first step of our idea is taking too much time.
Living or Existing?
Problems may begin to escalate when our ego becomes frail. As a Holistic Life Coach, I see the "Frail Ego" syndrome often in my work. The ego's role shifts to one of an overprotective, worrying identity that reacts quickly without consideration of impact on self and on others.
When we listen to this imbalanced voice and act upon its demands, we unfortunately have to deal with the results of our choices. As this cycle continues, our self-esteem can become frail, due to the results we continually live. Patterns and habits may take hold and eventually, we move into a state of amnesia, forgetting how to be our natural true selves. In other words, life becomes so serious, it's no longer a light-hearted, rewarding existence.
One question that regularly comes up in my work is, "Are you living or just existing?"
If we ask this question to ourselves each week, it's a reminder for us to keep tabs on our beliefs and our actions. By committing to this exercise with healthy intentions and behaviors, the results may be pleasantly surprising.
Check List of Observing Self:
1- Commit to overseeing yourself.
2- Become your own best friend to help you to be aware of where you are at in life.
3- Recognize when the ego is demanding, chattering negativity constantly, ignoring your cries, and boosting its power of control.
4- Treat your anxiety with care, and nuture your outlook towards a trusting perspective. By allowing trust to expand, control will not be the primary voice you listen to.
5- Watch for the signs of progressions. Be objective as each step of a situation unfolds right in front of you. Interrupt the steps and re-route them if you intuitively know they are leading to unhealthy results. You are learning to take control in a balanced way.
4- Learn to listen to your wise voice. It's a built-in, natural part of you that is officially your inner guidance. Give it the position it deserves in all areas of your life.
5- Let go of control that is unhealthy. Teach your ego to work with you towards a higher purpose, and not for the lower intentions of neediness.
6- The ego will resist change at first, but most people are truly tired of riding the merry-go-round that leads to unhappiness. An unruly dog is difficult to live with. Training the dog with love and compassion brings order and respect. Who would you prefer to live with?
7- Check yourself regularly. Observe the smaller picture and the larger picture of what is truly going on in your life. Go for the lessons, the wisdom that can be gained. Let the ego have its time out and then get back on track to reach higher results.
8- Believe in your True You. You are capable of changing your life around but you must believe in your capabilities. Replace frailty and hopelessness with courage and integrity.
Conclusion
You deserve the best in life! When you begin to believe this concept, support this with actions, words, and thoughts. By doing so, you're allowing all the wonderful aspects of you to blossom and express itself in harmony with who you truly are.
Trust, believe, expand, wisdom, balance, respect, fearless, courage, integrity, honor. These are wonderful words to post on your walls, and in your minds. All heroes reflect these words. Now it's time to be your own Hero.
Best wishes!
