A Fun Filled Day of Lies, Family, Friends and Stalling!
53Lying
The day begins...
I begin my day just like every other day. I wake
up, take the dogs out, feed the dogs, beg Aaron (my boyfriend) to get up and
being getting ready for work. I arrive to work about 5 to 10 minutes past 8
like usual and begin my long day of staring at the clock. My boss, the construction
site's Superintendent, Mack is mad and stomping around like a four year old.
My other boss Tom, the site's Assistant Superintendent is (as usual) off of
work for family matters. There have been some not so pleasing events occurring
recently. People have been letting me know just how back stabbing, lying, and
un-trustworthy Mack really is. So today I am alone with him and I have been warned
to not trust him and for God's sake, not to sign my name to any papers for him.
The stress begins...
When Mack comes in from the field he is ranting and raving, yelling about how he's the boss and Tom isn't the boss and how everything Tom is doing is wrong and ruining his site. When I offer no sympathy for Tom "ruining his site", he then screams at me "Two niggers raped my daughter on Saturday night!" This is a pretty random claim. It is to the point with this man that I can't even believe him and am stunned and curious as to the validity to his screaming claim. I am shocked and give in and offer my sympathy. He then returns to the field to continue his rant on all the sub contractors. Please understand my confusion, I've been told some things about dear old Mack, and I know he is willing to lie to me at all cost just to keep me close to him. I am what one would call, cautious. So, that is how I spent my morning. For the rest of the work day I kept my nose down, took a long lunch and got out of there as soon as possible.
An evening with the family...
This evening is the last evening I have to spend with my family who is visiting from out of town. They are to go back home tomorrow morning. They decide they would like to experience Alamo Draft House, a restaurant theater combo here in town. So Ryan, my 16 year old brother, picks a movie for us all to see. I meet the whole family at the theater after my hectic day of work. Ryan has picked "I Know Who Killed Me" starring the amazing anyone still hires her anymore, Lindsay Lohan. We enter the theater, take our seats and begin picking our snacks. The movie begins with a murder and then, oh no, Lindsay is kid napped! The kidnapper then proceeds to dismember her body parts. This is the most disgusting scene and it goes on and on as she screams. In the middle of him freezing and pulling the skin from Lindsay's bloody fingers, Ryan leans over and offers my mother a marinara covered fried cheese stick. This is about all she or any of us can take! Between the bloody scenes on the screen and our red sauce covered pizza and cheese sticks we are all grossed out. I take charge, grab my dad's credit card give it to our server and go ask the manager if we could possibly switch theaters. He agrees and we all go to watch the sweet romantic comedy "No Reservations", which is boring and predictable yet less gory. After this fiasco we all begin to drive across town back to my house because their dogs are there and they need to pick them up.
The belligerent boyfriend...
As I am walking to the car I receive a text from
Shannon, my best friend and my boyfriend’s boss, informing me that my beloved
boyfriend is belligerently drunk at the restaurant they work. She has taken his
keys and paid for a taxi for him to return home. The same home I am about to
return to with my entire family. I proceed to call my drunken
boyfriend and he cusses Shannon for
telling me. He then tells me he is headed to another bar. I talk him out of
that and he tells the taxi to bring him home. Then when he arrives home he is
of course locked out because Shannon took his
keys. He is pissed that I am not there to let his precious ass in because he wants
to get a beer. He then calls me back and slurringly tells me he is going to
play poker. I inform him that that is a terrible idea. He asks me if I can
think of anyone that might have a key so he can get in the house. I not so
sweetly remind him that Amanda our old roommate lives across the street and she
just might still have a key. My whole family is within 5 minutes from being
there. All I want him to do is to go upstairs and go to bed! I’d rather him not
be belligerent in front of my parents and little brothers.
Stalling, lying and something burnt...
In the mean time I am trying to have my family follow me in their vehicle across town. To stall for time, I attempt to take them up to Mt.Bonnell, which has a beautiful view of the lake and the city lights. We drive around up in the ritzy hills for a little while but I can't seem to locate the right street so we venture home. On the way, I call Aaron to see if he got into the house and what he decided to do. I’m still hoping he has decided to just go to bed yet, I know he isn’t that easily detoured. He informs me that now him and 2 friends are standing outside and he is about to go in and then they are all going to play poker. Aaron can barley say the word poker never the less play the game. I again tell him that, that is a stupid idea and that he should just go upstairs and go to bed. He refuses and insists on playing. I’m kind of relieved that at least he won’t be there when we get home. I can deal with picking him up later after the family has left.
Well, we arrive home and I tell my parents nonchalantly that
Aaron went to hang out with some buddies. They don't care and no questions are
asked. See, I'd like to keep it quite that my boyfriend, who they don't approve
of me living in sin with is totally wasted and roaming the city. I go upstairs
to make sure he isn't there. Well he isn't there but there is a peculiar burnt
paper smell. On the counter there is a half burnt dollar bill, and to this day
neither one of us can figure out why.
Who's behind door #1? No, not the truth!!
Now, the fun starts! There is a knock at the
door and it's Amanda, my not so brilliant ex-roommate/new neighbor. She has
come over to tell my family goodbye. As she is hanging out in my living room
talking to my parents she proceeds in perfect Amanda fashion to tell them all
about how drunk Aaron was and how he showed up in a taxi and stumbled over
to her house to get the key and how funny the whole thing was. My parents are
amused at my, shut up you dumb big mouthed idiot, face and they smile. At least
my parents have a fantastic sense of humor. Then big mouth leaves just as
innocent as she came in. My parents smile and Ryan says "Well I can see
how Amanda might be a little annoying, and I really enjoyed your facial expressions as she
talked."
Who's behind door # 2?
So, everyone is
about to leave as they gather their belongings, and I think it's almost over. All I have to do is get them out and I'm done but wait there is another knock
at the door. I go to answer the not so patient, loud as hell knock, as everyone
waits to see who is behind the door. Well, it is my beloved drunk as a skunk
boyfriend, Aaron. As he barrels past me everyone stares at him and he says with
a fake yawn “I’m going to bed because I'm sleeeepysleeepysleeepy" They all
grin and say “goodnight Aaron”. He stumbles upstairs and I look at them and say
"no one answers that door again!" My mom laughs and says "we
should have just stayed here tonight the last 45 minutes were way more
entertaining than either of those movies."
Relax! Smile! It's all cool!
Just smile
Tomorrow I will deal with everything that happened today. I will face my lying boss, try to ignore my nosy ex-roommate intervening, and explain to Aaron what a horrible impression he just made and how he can make it better. There are some things you can’t control. There are some things that just happen as a part of your life or just your day. When these things happen and they happen often, the best thing to do is smile and laugh. Sometimes, it’s nice to have no control. If you have no control you can’t be blamed. At least I’m not bored!

Well, I did get rid of the job! The boyfriend is here to stay and the ex-roommate means well and is just a little oblivious. It's a new hub but it happened a while back. It's funny now although it was stressful then. I appreciate your concern though.

I'm glad you're not bored, but you sure sound trapped.
