Revlon Pink fairy Princess circa 1957

This is the Pink Fairy Princess by Revlon Dolls, circa 1957. The search for this particular doll was what caused me to get bitten by the "collecting bug". It is believed that she was made only in that one year. This version has the bendable arms. She was under the Christmas tree and was always my favorite doll. This pretty girl has her original costume, shoes, wings and hair. The wings are the most fragile part on this doll and are often missing or broken. Her crown and wand are replaced. Look for an updated photo soon where she will be wearing her new replacement tights as well.

If you have been searching for this very special doll to have for yourself, I will have another, identical to her, freshly restored and available for sale soon on eBay. Stay tuned!!

Still Plays With Dolls!!

A friend once told me, " It's never too late to have a happy childhood!". Many years ago I began a search for some of my lost childhood dolls. Happily, I found "the one" and she is displayed in the photo on this page. Along the way, I have made many cherished friends and "dolly friends" and learned a great deal about several diferent vintage 1950's era dolls. I also started my own Yahoo group for collectors of the Uneeda Dollikin doll. The wealth of information available by networking with other collectors is enormously valuable and we have all had loads of fun along the way. If you are an experienced collector who is looking for another interface, or if you are just getting started on your vintage collecting journey, please join us! Let's play dolls!!

Cheers,

Judithia

Where to find your dolls

When you start searching for dolls, you will discover that they can be everywhere! Of course there is eBay and the internet, but also try estate sales, yard sales, garage sales, junk sales, ads, and doll shows . Joining a doll group on Yahoo that is geared to your particular interest is another way to find dolls for sale and to learn so much more about your doll(s).

I highly recommend this book, by Kathy Barna "Revlon Dolls and Their Look-Alikes"

Valuation, Condition

Putting a value on a vintage doll is a tricky topic and one that deserves some discussion. All collectors dream of finding that "mint in box doll", but what exactly does that term mean?? Technically, "Mint" should mean "just like new". The doll should be just as it was when it first came out of the box, or as close as possible to that condition. It seems self-evident that, when we are dealing with items forty, fifty or more years old, "just like new" is going to be pretty scarce. The "mint" doll will and should command the highest prices, but other factors can also influence  doll's value. Scarcity is a major factor. The rare, or very-hard-to-find doll will bring a higher value, as will clothing in excellent condition or that is very-hard-to-find. An unusual hair color ( like the pink on my Fairy Princess) will also influence price.

Since price will always influence what we buy, and since most of us cannot and do not wish to pay hundreds of dollars for a doll, we come to the subject of the "less than perfect doll" and that is where the real fun begins for the dedicated collector. You will have the most fun when you find a doll with potential. Maybe she just needs a bath. or maybe she has no clothing. Maybe she is a disaster and has bad hair, cloudy eyes and stains or discolorations. With knowledge and good advice, most of these things can be fixed and you will wind up with a real treasure in the end!!
