Treehouse of Horror III

Season 4 ~ (10/29/92)

In the third installment, the narrative moves on from the treehouse and the nightmares to hosting a Halloween party with all the kids from Springfield.

Clown Without Pity - After Homer buys a haunted doll from a Frogurt salesman, it tries to kill him. One of the greatest lines in Simpsons history would follow...

  • "The doll's trying to kill me and the toaster's been laughing at me."

King Homer - This time it is Grampa who tells the story and so it is in black & white. No, but seriously it begins as an obvious spoof of King Kong with Burns, Smithers recruiting Marge for a long voyage do an island. After the blue-haired woman is endeared to the beast, Smithers knocks him out with laughing gas and he is taken back to NY to be put on display.

Dial "Z" for Zombie - In the hopes of bringing back their dead cat Snowball I, Bart and Lisa raise the dead...but the car is okay. After the zombies start their brain-eating frenzy and Kang and Kodos return, chaos ensues. Homer offers his himself to the zombies, but since they feed on brains, they pass. Eventually Bart finds the magic spell to reverse them back back to their graves, "Trojan, Ramses, Magnum, Sheik" which is a bunch of condom brands.

From the Living Room to....

....The Ghoulish Gallery

Treehouse of Horror IV

Season 5 ~ 10/28/93

The Devil and Homer Simpson - After Lenny and Carl eat all the donuts, Homer is left to ponder, "I'd sell my soul for a doughnut" and then the devil (a/k/a Flanders) appears. At first Homer outsmarts the devil Flanders but when he finishes the donut as he sleep-walks, the deal is done. The devil tries to take Homer but du eprocess is invoked and a jury of the damned is assembled. Lionel Hutz who enters brushing his hair with a fork assures him, "Mr. Simpson, don't you worry. I watched 'Matlock' in a bar last night. The sound wasn't on, but I think I got the gist of it."

Nightmare at 5 1/2 Feet - In another Twilight Zone Movie spoof, Bart is being tortured by the knowledge that there is a gremlin on the side of the bus. This is a play on John Lithgow's famous, "There's a monster on the plane." It is also a play on an original episode of The Twilight Zone called "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" starring William Shatner.

Bart Simpson's Dracula - Mr. Burns invites the family to his castle in Pennsylvania but Lisa is immediately suspicious of his motives. Fearing he is a vampire, she explores the castle and finds a Super Happy Fun Slide and a vampire's den. They try to kill the "head" vampire by offing Monty Burns but later find out that Marge is actually the head vampire. We close with the family bursting into a Peanuts style Christmas Special song.

Ahhh, I miss the days when the Simpsons was actually funny and worth watching. did you know Konan O'Brian used to write for them in the early seasons? Makes sense too, too bad they suck now. We have to make do with tributes to their former greatness and reruns I've seen more times than I can count. *sigh

Actually the show has made a huge comeback the last two seasons. I guess they fired eveybody and overhauled the staff. South Park did the same thing.

I loved the TOH episode that spoofed "The Shining," when Marge threw Homer in the food pantry and said "You'll stay here until you're not insane anymore! Ooh, chili would be good for dinner."

:D
