Everyone loves a handmade gift; candle making is a fun and interesting hobby, so the perfect solution is holiday candle gifts! You can create great candle designs, various shapes, colors, scents and sizes, and express your inner candle creativity! Nowadays candles with aromas, are very popular, which can be used to enhance the specialness of the holiday candle gifts, you create. This article talks about the candle making basics you need to know to create holiday candle gifts you can give to your loved ones.

There are many opportunities through the year when you can give Holiday candle gifts, depending on the occasion or religion. You have Easter, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, birthdays, Independence Day, to name a few.

First of all let me say that you do not need to go to an expensive candle making course to be good at candle making. It’s far more fun, and cheaper, to learn at home and if needs be learn from your mistakes. Candle making material is inexpensive, so you can choose the best you can to ensure good quality candles, that burn well.

The candle making material, which you will need to start of your candle making hobby is paraffin wax or beeswax to make the body of the candles, the wick to put in the center of your candle, the dye to color your candle as you desire, the scent that you want your candle to smell of, and the mould to shape your creative scented candle.

There is one thing missing from that candle making material list and that is the heat source. Really you need a double boiler that allows you to melt the wax at 200 degrees. Note that if the wax is smoking, then the temperature is too high, and if it reaches 360 degrees it can explode!

So the first step to creating your holiday candle gifts is melting the wax, then you add the dye and keep stirring it in until the dye has dissolved. Next add your chosen scent, you can pick seasonal scents, like pine scent and cinnamon for a lovely Christmassy smell, and add that to the wax mixture.

Next take your chosen candle mould, add the wick and tie it off to a skewer, so it stays in the middle when the wax is poured in. Now pour in the wax mixture and leave the wax to cool overnight. Next morning, don’t be disheartened when you find your creative scented candle has a hole down the middle, as all you need to do is pour in some more wax, and wait another 12 hours, and there you have it, your first of many holiday candle gifts.

There is some common sense required to make sure that you don’t burn yourself, or let the wax catch fire and explode! So some safety measures to consider are to have a fire extinguisher or fire blanket near to hand, make sure kids are well out of the way when you are using hot wax, and clear up any spills straight away so you don’t slip. Essentially it won’t take you long at all to learn the candle making basics and make a creative scented candle after creative scented candle, and give them all away as holiday candle gifts.
